Came out to a little over 9% regardless of mob lvl. Im not sure what else you want me to provide.

From there, it is pretty simple math.

Also, @ FailureMidgard your math is incorrect.

If you put boxers mantle at about 4-5% block increase (lets say 5%), that equal to 5% spell interupt and .05*.65(or .05*.80 for aegis pld) = ~3.3%-4% damage reduced over time. Shadow mantle would provide 0.09(.35(1)+.65(.20)) = 4.3% total damage reduction for an aegis pld and .09(.35(1)+.65(.35) = 5.1% total damage reduction for a koenig pld (reducing more for a keonig pld due to their higher damage taken on shield block.)

Note that I computed damage reduction over time as the proc percentage multiplied by the sum of the non block rate with the block rate, each multiplied by their respective damage taken %s.

So even with taking the absolute best numbers for boxers mantle, shadow mantle still provides superior results.

    ALSO:

PET PEEVE - Max you betrayed me! Another common misconception is that Aegis has some higher block rate than other shields and/or requires less shield skill to reach specific block rates. THIS IS NOT TRUE! Aegis only provides higher damage reduction per block than koenig, and sux equally w.o shield skill. There is no hidden increased block rate with aegis, simply the amount of damage reduced when it does block (which is based off the shield def rating).
I'm confused, you call my math wrong then put nothing in to dispute it?

    My post:
    "Boxers:
    69 blocked swings (.35)
    31 full swings (1.0)

Average damage taken per swing is 69*.35+31=55.15%.
    # of swings that don't interrupt Utsusemi cast is 69%."

65*.35+35=57.75% dmg taken per swing (without the 4% from Boxer's...and I used 4%, not 5%)
    57.75-55.15 = 2.6%
    Your calculation, with 4% = .04*.65 = .026 = 2.6%

I just typed out a more in depth analysis of what the breakdown actually meant, and I used a base value because you are still overestimating

If you want to use 5% on Boxer's:
70*.35+30 = 54.5% average damage taken per swing, 70% avoidance of interrupts.
    Shadow Mantle:
Average damage taken per swing is .35*59.15+31.85=52.55%, 68.15% avoidance of interrupts.

My math was (and still is) correct assuming a block stops 65% of the damage, and you are at a 65% chance to block pre-boxers, and the cap on block rate is >65%. You're just looking at the same #s from a slightly different standpoint. Also, the comparison from Boxer's to Shadow Mantle will vary slightly based on your current chance to block, is why I did the math the way I did.

You wont go much above 65%, but our numbers still stand on the assumption that the person is not capped on shield block rate and thus have room to go (which they typically always will need more skill on HNMs).

You will not however get more interupt increase from boxers than the block rate increase it provides, regardless of how you reword it. You are still comparing 5% (at most) interupt rate vs 9% of shadow mantle, and lower DoT reduction (and yes I stated the DoT reduction would change based on the mob lvl you were fighting and wether you were an aegis pld or not).

For HNMs, we are both stating: Shadow Mantle > Boxers.

The line only becomes vague as the mob level decreases, with an aegis pld getting more out of boxers (dot wise) than koenig pld, as the mob lvl decreases.

No, the interrupt reduction on Shadow Mantle is .09*(1-[shield block chance]).
    If you have a 65% block rate, that is .09*.35 = 3.15%
There -IS- redundancy on the Shadow Mantle Proc for interrupt reduction because it can proc off an attack that is already blocked. I agree with you Shadow Mantle reduces more damage, but Boxer's will give you a better chance to avoid interruption based on the #s given so far.

I truly have no clue which is better for HNM, however, so I will trust your judgment there.

    1. You wont be even remotely close to 65% on HNMs. It isnt .9(1-.65), its more like .9(1-.48~) on heavy HNMs.

    2. Shadow mantle is omni directional, and has the chance to completely nullify any TP moves or non frontal attacks, unlike shield block which only works on melee attacks that come from the front.

However, even if you discount all the interupts provided by the shadow mantle upon shield block(redundancy), you still get less and less redundancy as the mob lvl increases (and thus your shield block rate decreases). Assuming you can hit at least a 50% block rate on difficult HNMs, that still leaves you with slightly less than 5% interupt rate that is omni-directional and immune to TP moves. The boxers mantle, which we havent even comfirmed to grant 5% boost (ive been trying to test the exact effects of shield skill for a while, but have had mixed results), will net you about the same interupt and less DoT reduction (and thats ONLY if we assume the boxers is performing as we have stated).

... holy hell. If you're hit for 0 you will not be interrupted, can we stop with the failure now please?
Would you like to re-read what I said now? Or shall I explain it to you. Seriously get some reading comprehension before you start blabbing. And neo correct me if im wrong but doesnt aegis act like a size 1 shield? I dont know, I dont have one but wouldnt that put it above the block rate on koenig? Im not arguing with the fact that shadow can nullify tp moves and the like also. Im saying idle in shadow, cast utsu in boxers purely for the greater chance of getting shadows up.

AEGIS BLOCKS LIKE A SIZE THREE SHIELD (SAME BLOCK RATE AS KOENIG).

The "blocks like a size 1" crap is some retarded rumor from zham that repeatively gets perpetrated regardless of how many times people state that is NOT the case.

And you completely ignored my/failuremidgard's posts about the interupt actually being higher on shadow mantle over boxers in HNMs cases (boxers will be better on lower mobs).

Why do people keep saying otherwise? Q.Q

Depends as tests have been done and not all say that maybe? I found when i had my Aegis it was a Size2 Shield Block. But level difference on mobs can mean alot even if it is 1-2 Lvs HNMs can pop at different Lvs, Faffy one day is lv 88 and another Lv 90. 2 Lvs can effect shield block rate alot.

I measure my block rate religiously. I reach the same block rate with kaiser shield as I do with aegis, on TW mobs, EM mobs, and IT++ mobs, using the same shield skill between them. The only difference is the damage reduced upon block.

Well i would not say its a Shield Size 1 in no way at all. But i did find it was better proc then my koeing when my shadows was down. Idk might be luck as over 50% chance on one needed proc is not hard. Tbh i never went out of my way to test it. But its good shield and pawns all the others out of the water ^^

Sure, I'll agree with all that, I'm just saying the 9% is vastly over exaggerating the reduction in spell interruption, you're rarely ever getting >5%. As for the shield block increase, I really don't know...but 10 evasion -should- be a 5% increase in miss rate, and like I said, it just seems really odd that shield block (which 1 block is inferior in every way to 1 evade) would get less return than evasion.

Also, a decent # of TP moves (in general) don't interrupt cast, and I'm not sure how much on HNM you're worried about getting attacked from behind?

In any case, if block rate is dropping under 50%, Shadow Mantle does seem to be the better choice. If you're closer to 65%, Boxer's will be better for avoiding interrupt. "Shit's situational." But for HNM, given the #s so far, Shadow Mantle will probably win, you are correct.

Enough Aegis/shadow/boxer's faggotry, let's get this back on track with actual gear shots! The pictures match the order listed above each, and each is a link to a set on FFXIAH in case there's any ambiguous items that I don't clarify underneath. This isn't a comprehensive picture tour of my gear, I use variations of the sets here depending on the situation, and there's several minor "sets" that I don't have pictured here.

BRD: WHM Sub Idle | Non-WHM Sub Idle | Wind Enfeebling | Stoneskin
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...r/brd_idle.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...rd_altidle.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...r/brd_wind.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7..._stoneskin.jpg
Earrings are Magnetic, Loquacious, Novia and Musical. Capes are Cheviot, Astute and Ixion's. Hands in the second are Alkys.

    RDM: Idle | Non-stat enfeebles | MND-based enfeebles | Enmity/Cure4 | Elemental skill
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...r/rdm_idle.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...dm_nonstat.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...r/rdm_stat.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...rdm_enmity.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7..._elemental.jpg
Hands are Morrigan's, dark ring is Omega Ring. Straps are Staff and Bugard +1. Earrings are Magnetic, Loquacious, Novia, Moldavite.

BLM: Idle | Enfeebling | Elemental skill | Elemental damage | Dark magic | Generic mage resting
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...r/blm_idle.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...m_enfeeble.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...m_eleskill.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...ar/blm_mab.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7..._darkmagic.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...ic_resting.jpg
Capes are Cheviot and Ixion. Torques are the appropriate ones for the skill, boots are Herald's Gaiters, Nashira Crackows and Yigit Crackows. Belts are Sorcerer's Belt, Penitent's Rope and Swift Belt. Latent is activated via Serket Ring, Penitent's Rope, Morgana's Choker and Zenith head/hands/legs.

    WHM: Idle | Cure 5 | Haste | Barspells | Banish/Divine
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...r/whm_idle.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7.../whm_cure5.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7.../whm_haste.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...m_barspell.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...whm_banish.jpg
Capes are Cheviot, Ixion and Errant, belts are Hierarch, Penitent's and Swift, legs are AF2 and AF1 in the last two pics respectively. Torques are appropriate skill, as usual. The oddball staff is Capricorn's, and yes, I know I'm wearing 2-3% too much haste, I'm just too lazy to take out a piece.

    MNK: TP | Asuran
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...ear/mnk_tp.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...mnk_asuran.jpg
Rings are Jaeger/Woodsman, second pic's belt is Lifebelt. Earrings are Brutal, Merman's and Bushi because I'm too cheap to get a second Merman's just for Asuran.

    SAM: TP | WS
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...ear/sam_tp.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...ear/sam_ws.jpg
Rings are same as above, earrings are Brutal/Bushi, WS belt is Warwolf. Gorget is Flame or Snow depending on WS, grip is Pole Grip in both. WS bracelets are Alkys.

I'm open to suggestions for any job, but please keep in mind that I do keep 6 jobs fully geared, so inventory space is more than a small concern. I've been on break for most of the time that people have been doing ZNMs, so I'm a little behind on that stuff, as well as AN gear. Stuff I know I need:

    • Better acc and STR rings. I'm trying to get an Insect ring in the short term to replace Jaeger, and Sniper+1s/Toreadors in the long term. Flame Rings are on the list, but pretty low priority at 480k per 1 STR.
    • Hauby +1, Aristocrat's Coat, Genie Weskit, few other expensive HQs.
    • Denali feet for Asuran Fists, Goliard Clogs for debuffs on most jobs.
    • Hissho Hachimaki for Asuran Fists
    • Few pieces of Cobra Unit mage gear for conserve MP in random slots.
    • Legion Scutum, Templar Mace, Fourth Mace, Muse Tariqah and a nice MND/INT wand for club/shield setups for RDM and WHM.
    • Hedgehog Bomb or White Tathlum for WHM and RDM, Black Tathlum for MNK and SAM.

Have them, but I need to WS in a piece of Store TP gear aside from Brutal to keep my 6-hit, and Hachi boots over Rutters is the smallest sacrifice. When I'm not using 6-hit for whatever reason, I TP in Dusk Gloves and Fuma Sune-ate and WS in Rutters.

Edit: I also have Askar body, but I've been thoroughly unimpressed with it unless I'm getting acc buffs, which I really prefer not to get. It gets thrown on occasionally if I have a dumb BRD or COR.

I need help. Tell me any improvements that you guys can see.

    I already have Amemet's +1 for 61.
Working on PCC in BC40. (0/10 so far.)
But other than that, not quite sure what to do.

I'd rather ask you guys, than some random 75 DRG who has worse gear than I do.
