If you want to compare something to it, try Omega/Trooper's combo, but that's not quite as good either since you could use those in the other slot if you had a Tamas. It's hands-down the best mage ring around, and you should be cheering on anyone who actually cares enough about their mage jobs to optimize and not go "Lawl I has Rajas for my NIN cuz I like it moar then RDM".

That said, I actually have a Rajas at the moment because I need a few hundred merits and prefer getting them on SAM, which is arguably the job that benefits the most from Rajas. I like it because it lets me keep my 6-hit and use dusk gloves, but it doesn't really fundamentally change how I play SAM or drastically increase my WS damage. It's nice, but not the amazing game-changing ring that a lot of people make it out to be. You can bet money that about 10 minutes after I finish the merits I have planned, it'll be on the ground and I'll be counting down the days until I can get my Tamas back.
good, take your inferior melee and gtfo!

You can get MND/INT+5 rings, really all Tamas does is save you 3 inventory space, there's no other STP+5 rings.

If this is your take on the situation then Tamas is the equivalent of snow ring. Which, in reality, it is. No ring in the game can even remotely replace Rajas, therefore it's better than Tamas, sorry.

Except swapping rings doesn't get you all the benefits of a Tamas Ring even if you have all the stats on different rings. If you're swapping a 30 MP ring for stat rings, most of the time that MP is just being lost on the gear swaps anyways. Tamas also doesn't lower your HP like an Ether/Serket/Vivian, and the -enmity is active on any spell you cast regardless of what stat it needs. It's minor stuff, but guess what? If you're a career mage, that "minor stuff" can still be more important than the number of hits your mess-around melee job takes to get to 100.

I guess I just think it's funny that people constantly whine about the lack of good mages and tanks in the game, then perpetuate this bullshit about how anyone with a melee job leveled should have a Rajas regardless of what they enjoy playing. If someone wants to have a Tamas because they care more about maximizing their mage performance than their DD job, fucking let them. We need more people like that playing mage jobs, not less. The same goes for tanks, if someone in your LS is always tanking on PLD and they're happy with their Sattva, you're a idiot if you try to convince them to get a Rajas. Let people gear up the jobs they're passionate about, particularly when those jobs dovetail nicely with what their LS usually needs.

I actually spend 85% of my time at events on PLD, and i still have a Rajas. Just to be clear, obviously a "career" mage should pick up a Tamas, any more revelations? I use a knife to spread butter on my sliced bread.

I bet you really benefit from having 600/1030MP instead of 600/1000 but at the end of the day, If you have a job that can make use of Rajas it's the "best"

Edit: Greenjade, Peni. Rope > Witch Sash for cures for the -enmity. I only mention it because you seem to have both.

    Tamas and use carbonera? :D

Edit: Following Bladewind, Greenjade might use zenith crown for mnd enfeebles, unless you like your fast cast but enfeebles are normally short casts/recasts anyways

That's a purely subjective decision based on your own circumstances, not what some guy on the forums says is objectively better. Truth is, there's no objectively better, it all depends on the person in question and which type of job they prioritize, which isn't necessarily a constant (as my example showed).

If you're willing to admit that, then why are you even arguing here? If someone posts that they have a Tamas and that they're happy with it, that's a pretty good indicator that they're a "career mage" and won't be swayed by your Rajas evangelism. As for your Rajas, that's your decision on priorities and I'm sure as hell not going to second-guess it. All I'm asking is that you give others the same courtesy.

I use my Sattva for voke on War, have been while I level Pld, since 99% of my time in the last 4 months on War has been /Nin and tanking.

Rajas does dick for /Nin hit builds, 3 more Enm for Voke/Toma/Warcry makes me happy, and all I'll even be able to merit on Pld is Group 1 and 2.

Know what I miss the most about Rajas? The 5 Str 5 Dex in one slot, it's a sexy ass WS piece, but I don't /Sam much anymore these days. /Nin or /Dnc onry.

Btw, thanks for the tips on Pld gear, just most of the haste/acc options are Homam/Aurum, which I've yet to either see drop, or have a job to lot them with. I'll be going homam legs > hands > feet > body asap at 75, natch, and applying melee knowledge to Pld for Atonement TP building as it applies of course.

As a soloist and a tank, I completely understand the reasoning behind that, but it appears as if you drop a significant portion of your MP through that macro, which can be obnoxious at times.

    Thanks ^^. Thing is with the Muse shield thingy is that my LS doesn't do lower tier ZNM's anymore since we are trying to focus on tier 3 and 4. I do have 8 HQ staves though which helps a bit. But I'll work on getting the shield. For the Stoneskin set, I don't solo and tank that much since I'm usually in the tank party as a cure bomber. ^^; I'm currently working on improving my Enfeebling set and making a different MND Enfeeble set. Just need to get my hands on a Promise Badge. T_T; My friend told me my Enfeebling sets are too mixed up so fixing em up a bit. I'll post upgrades as soon as I get a Promise badge. ^^;

    Tricen:

Dont mix and match your idle sets. If you are going for an atonement spam set, dont gear up some half assed shield/survival set as well. For atonement, keep your current setup, swap the earrins/rings for acc/suppa/brutal, and eat sushi. Make a def macro to swap back into shield/tanking gear when shadows are down or as needed (and shield gear for ichi ofcourse).

Also, while the 10 acc is nice, you may want to play with spellcast a bit to keep your parade gorget on unless you are <85% hp and > a comfortable lvl of mp. (One of the cool things to do with spellcast). I have mine set up to idle in PCC when /nin when my mp is above 75% and, and swap to parade gorget when my mp is below 75% and hp is above 85%. Also swaps to shield torque if neither condition is met.
