To start out, mages that choose Tamas are great in my book, but I think your logic here is terrible. Yea, Tamas is the best mage ring, but "it's nice, but not the amazing game-changing ring that some people make it out to be. It doesn't fundamentally change how you play any mage job". Really, both rings are going to me somewhat minor, but if you want to try to mathematically assess which will give you a larger % increase in damage/efficiency/etc, I think Rajas will win in most situations.
It also isn't just good for Sam...it's good for /sam too. And look at this:
Switching from a Haub+1+Rajas to a Askar body+Sniper+1, you are losing 11 dex, 6 str, 5 accuracy, 5 subtle blow to gain 2% DA and keep your build.
If you instead go from Rajas+Dusk>Sniper+Hachiman (hand on both armor), you lose 3% haste, 5 dex, 1 str, and 5 attack, and very likely have to keep an extra piece of stp gear on for your WS (a lot of people take the STP on Rajas for granted). You gain back 5 acc.
Switching off Tamas...you now have to switch your rings between casts, and you lose 30mp (maybe...more likely you cast a haste or stoneskin or something random before switching off your ether ring) and -3enm.
My first job was a mage, I thoroughly enjoy playing my mages, but I think you are delusional if you truly believe that Tamas is as good for a mage as Rajas is for a melee. It'd be like trying to argue that the Regen on Uthalams in Salvage is equal to the Refresh on Balrahns. It's just clearly not the case. If you go on a mage to all your events/etc that you care about, then by all means, get a Tamas. If you consider a melee your main, or equal in priority to a mage job, I think you should get a Rajas, because it -IS- a better ring.
Please re-read my posts, I don't think we really disagree. My whole point is that you should choose the one that YOU will get the most use out of rather than listen to some guy on forums try to prove which is better with no concern for how you play. I've never claimed that Tamas is better in any objective sense (only that it was more than just an Ether Ring or Snow Ring with a different graphic), and I'll be the first to admit that Rajas benefits a 2h DD job more than Sattva benefits a PLD or Tamas benefits a RDM. Being a recent switcher, I've actually seen that first-hand, but like I said, it completely ignores the VALUE of that benefit. It's a bit like arguing that a Sniper +1 is better than, say, a Genie Weskit. It may be true or false that one helps its respective job more than the other based on the numbers, but neither conclusion proves any kind of objective "best", because the value of those benefits depends on the priorities of the person in question.
Regarding your SAM math, if you're using Hachi hands/feet+Brutal, it's sufficient to leave the boots and Brutal on for WS. Leaving the boots on isn't much of a sacrifice, since they have the same STR as Rutters, just less 5 attack that doesn't really do much on Gekko thanks to the massive attack boost.
Had tamas for several years, but once my DRK started getting beefy gear, I switched to Rajas 'cuz I couldn't stand missing something that good just to save some inventory on RDM. I feel getting rid of Tamas and buying Snow/Aqua combo has not altered my ability to play RDM to it's fullest at all.
I have a Herc ring already, no Mermaid's ring, so the options are: Enm in a different gear slot, or 3 Enm on Ring2, all my other gear slots aside from my ears have more than or exactly 3 Enm already, so it's pretty handy.
As was said, my 3 year old Rajas was and is cool shit, if I could have both I would, but leveling Pld with a Rajas bugged me the instant I hit 30, Sattva makes me happier, and gets more use than my Rajas was/would.
Or option 3, buy a mermaid's ring for 100k and use an ACC ring on pld exp.
thanks for sam input, numbers went up slightly when tested, which pleased me
next, pld.
Spoiler: show
ni gear is the same as idle gear but with velocious belt swapped in.
also, there is an error in this pic but too lazy to fix, for atonement spam, replace Loquacious with suppa for sword skill+5
basic things i want for improvement: kaiser schaller(i hate you seiryu), ethereal earring to replace cassie (when i get around to finishing the quest), hauteclaire (wish i was lucky like tricen and won bonanzalol), bomb queen ring, wlegs (i hate you kirin), possibly a hades earring+1 to replace loquacious.
also, I'd swap homam on ja set for some iron ram pieces/af2
get a Trance Belt and throw that Warwolf
I was just sarcastically commenting on the Tamas Ring cause of the discussion going on.
I like to use Brutal Earring in my idle setup for Atonement spam, dunno if it's better than Suppa. Could use Gallant Body for your Flash/JA I suppose until you get Valor. I don't think using a Jelly Ring in your idle setup is a wise choice, may just want to use your Sniper's +1 instead, but it depends on what mob you're fighting. Keep the Warwolf Belt for Rampart if you plan on getting some more Martial pieces, and then use a Trance Belt for all the other JAs. Also get some kind of Enmity pieces for your Legs/Feet for JA's. AF2 feet for Sentinel.
Yea figured it was about that. I'm a Mage baby~ Only melee job I have leveled is DNC which is at 70. And my next job is most likely going to be SCH or WHM. >.o
I assume your ichi gear is your Shield set. Id say lose the askar helm use a turban. 1% haste > 4 vit.
Also might wanna grab a buckler earring.
I'm a full time melee who is leveling Pld, I have a better idea how to gear Pld for hitting shit than you might think, and know exactly how much Rajas would do for Pld.
Also use Sattva for my cure cheats (fabulous piece for it), Rampart, Waltzes, Oh shit button, general turtle mode stuff, idle. Where Rajas wouldn't even see use til I ding into my heca and got a sea gorget suitable for vorpal, as right now I'm Acc/Acc for Vorpal rings. Rajas does dick for Atonement, while 3 Enm boosts the hate return.
If I still needed merits for War, or more than Grp 1/2 for Pld, and actually had a chance/reason/urge to War/Sam, Rajas would rock. Sattva is nonetheless a sexy ring which is a nice addition to the toolbox, and has a unique stat combination which benefits Pld, Hp + Enm in a ring slot.
Since everyone is talking about PLD gear sets and I'm about to finish up lvling PLD, I was just curious what people's thoughts were on using Hospitaler Earring on Cure sets. Wouldn't 5% stronger cure potentially beat out 2 enmity or w/e you are using in ear slot?
Hmmm, I don't know the exact formula for Cure enmity off the top of my head but lemme think.
200 Hp + 2 Enm
210 Hp
I may be wrong, and don't have Enm ear options yet (should hit 65 today), but I doubt 2 Enm will add as much as 10 more HP cured, so I'm leaning towards keeping a spot for Hospitaler in my cure macros for the time being.
Since I'm bored in sky SAM shit, (Sorry for big pics and/or aspect ratio)
