Wasting my Dusk Gloves +1 HQ on your stupid item you want synthed hurts my pockets at the end of the day. Or you can just throw on the NQ ring and everything is all good lol.
Let's face it, if I didn't waste your HQ dusk gloves+1 luck, the behemoth hide > behemoth leather synth will anyway.

The ring just saves you the heartbreak of seeing HQ animation on the leather synth, the random generator would still give you the HQ value eventually, you just won't see it.

You'd still have a same chance to get dealt a pocket ace even if you fold each hand.

I've read through this topic and I have to say I agree with Sanoske, but as a general rule of thumb I try to consider 10% of the sell price a fair tip if the crafter doesn't have his own set of rules.

However, this also depends on whether you're trying over and over for a HQ or it's some type of ungodly 1/1 by accident. If it's an ungodly 1/1 by accident the crafter should be able to sell as sano said and supply an NQ. If it's someone trying over and over for a HQ 10% seems fair unless of course you get incredibly lucky or on the opposite end of that spectrum very unlucky.

Back when Genie Weskits were considered a prize piece and D talons were 700k each my crafting friend was quite lucky and we went 1/32 and thus I gave him a 3mil tip when 10% would have been 2mil (they were about 20m at the time).

On the other hand a different friend and I went 1/137 on Cursed mitts -1 costing me about 25m and a years worth of effort lol. Although it obviously wasn't his fault, I only tossed him 500k since I had lost so much in the process. The going rate for HQ at the time was about 10-12m.

I also think it's important to tip whether you're going for a HQ, or just an NQ. People put a tremendous amount of gil and time into leveling a craft to 100 and the appropriate support crafts to 60. I think in general the people who say I SHOULD GET TO KEEP THE 1/1 HQ are people who have not leveled shit on their own and feel entitled because they supplied a whopping 500k worth of materials. If you had any idea how much gil they spent getting to the point of synthing for you you'd realize they're not really "profiting" they're paying their investment. While of course it's not the suppliers fault player X invested gil to level the craft, they should respect the fact none the less. I'm no mathematician so I assume even if you T0 your next chance at another T0 is still the same crappy 1-2%, but to feel like I "wasted" a coveted T0 on a random person and didn't get to invest that profit into my initial investment would really stink. Even if someone just pops a quick NQ for you toss them a little tip, they'll be much more likely to help you in the future.

I didn't say I should get to keep it pro bono, no string attached, but asking for 50% or more is just kinda pushing it.

And I don't do LC, so pardon me for not knowing behemoth hide's cap, I'm just trying to convey a point that random HQ will happen regardless. It could be on the Cerberus leather on your kyudogi/valk body, it could be on your imperial wootz you're helping a friend to get his body, or it could be an HQ multiple tier 0 profit synth on one run.

Don't be a douchebag just because it happened to be on the item you were commissioned to make, yes you are entitled to a tip, but taking the HQ and giving them NQ is a bit too much of a dick move IMO

Sorry that you're too dense to get the fucking point, and yes, you can disagree.

As a goldsmith, the only synth that I have a set fee for is Sha'ir Manteel because of the rarity and lack of goldsmithers on my server. For NQ I have a set fee of 250k since anyone will make 1.1m off that synth with NQ. For HQ I say 1.5m. I tell all commissions this before the synth. If the cannot pay or are unwilling to pay the 1.5m in straight gil (wont take gear for a tip) I offer to keep the HQ and buy/make them an NQ.

Only once they agree to these temrs and make a decision do I craft for them. Everything else, I let people choose their own tip. But nothing pisses me off more than someone thinking that you are obligated to craft for them just because you leveled the craft. Especially the people who ask you to make a lvl 75 skill+ craft then give you NOTHING in return or like 5k. So dumb.

What's with you people's obsession with pointing out people's avatar and sig anyway, do you just not have anything better to respond to my actual argument that you had to resolve to that?

It really is a 2 way road, I hate crafters that sets up ridiculous HQ term as if that HQ is all his doing, even though it's just a matter of random dice roll for t0s.

I just feel like calling them for what I think they are, sorry if it hits too close to home, and like I said, I'm just glad that I won't have the displeasure of doing any business with the lot of you.

Neither crafter nor client have obligation of agreeing to each other's term without compromise, so the crafter can call them cheapskate, while the client call them asshole, the only thing that's really lost in exchange are words, and they meant shit anyway.

Apparently 75% of crafters agreeing on a certain point no longer makes said point within the norm... the majority is now "ridiculous".

I never believe in union anyway >_>

And I was referring to the crafter taking HQ or asking for 50% or more for it, some of the terms already listed I could agree on.

I'm thinking the disconnect here is that we've got one group thinking of crafting stuff that rarely gets sold, where you have to seek out a crafter, and at least one other thinking of stuff that routinely gets sold, where the NQ result sells for half the cost of the ingredients. Obviously the same system isn't going to work very well for all items, and I sincerely doubt that the "I keep HQ, provide NQ" people are doing much business crafting, say, Dusk Gloves. For something like a Manteel it makes considerably more sense.

Can't agree with ya Zilong. Simply because there are people always out to make a quick buck off of someone's craft. Happened to me a long ass time ago, when Blood Finger Gauntlets were worth asswads of gil (2004-2005ish). I decided to craft for him free at the time, thinking he would go ahead and uncurse and bask in RNG hand-sex. Instead, he sold them on the AH and turned around and bought NQ, then some more mats to con another person I assumed. My mistake for being nice, I deal.

Since then, if I don't know you, you WILL have to agree with my stipulations, or go elsewhere for crafts:

    1) I sell and split HQ 50/50 if you somehow can't pay for the fee or genuinely seeking out NQ only (if you are seeking this, I'll also purchase the NQ right off). Your own damn responsibility to be able to pay the crafter's charge if you are seeking HQ.

    2) 25% of the AH cost is my fee, or you'll be forced to get 1).

    3) If you are a very good close friend of mine, it's totally free no matter what the item is.

If someone is seeking HQ and it breaks and something is lost on high risk, I try to refund 5~50% of the item's cost that was lost depending. If it's a Haku eye cluster that was lost, I simply tell them upfront that it's Full Break, and that it's not 100% success and send them on their way (if it's for a friend, I usually refund them 3-5 eyes from bazaars and or try again out of pocket). After all these years, I don't believe in "if it breaks, then it sucks to be you." They just need to agree to the HQ stipulations.

I'm a bit torn on how to appropriately handle it. I think it's best to say it's a case by case situation. As the customer, not the crafter:

If I am tossing you Amemet hides to make a HQ mantle, I mos'def am not going to be okay with you saying "I HQ'd it so let me buy you an NQ." Two reasons, that is a mega-loss and if I wanted an NQ mantle, I'd buy it for 5k instead of 50k (ish) for the items to make the HQ.

On the other hand, if I gave you the items to make a Cursed Hauberk and you create a -1, I'll accept the replacement.

If it's Dusk item+1, it really would depend on the relationship with the crafter I'd have to say. LS member or friend, I'd like to keep the HQ; unknown person I found shouting, I'd deal with the NQ.

As for the tipping, again it is completely independent on what is getting crafted and who is crafting it. I'll try to tip the best I can, but I don't have millions of gil flowing from every orifice of my body like some people do. 10% seems fair, but in most cases, people ask for things crafted for two reasons, with a rare third possibility:
#1 - Not enough money to buy the full product off the AH. They are usually broke in this case.
    #2 - Chance for HQ.
#3 - There just are none available to buy and they want it right now. In the past, this was common with abjurations. However today, there seems to be a lot of cursed items in bazaars everywhere.

I'll go ahead and add my 2 cents, for what it's worth.

I would say it depends on what the crafter and the person providing the ingredients both agree on.

For instance, a person who was directed to me from a friend asked if I could make them a Cursed Togi. Told them sure no problem, then jokingly responded that if I actually HQ it we'll sell it, split the profit, and I'd make him an NQ. Sure as shit I actually HQ'd it. Sold for 14m. Made him an NQ. Pocketed 7m.

I never charge anyone who ask for synths, I tell them that I do however take "charitable donations". Just so happens that I knew the person asking for the Togi synth, so they had no problem when I made that suggestion, cuz in all honesty, I never thought I'd HQ one lol

I am way more easygoing, unless the item is something I would actually use:

Normal synths, usually people throw 10-50K at me for the synth, but I don't ask for anything normally. This would include anything they need made, that is NQ'd with really no possible gain with a HQ.

Anything bigger ticket, I stiplulate prior to the synth that they are responsible for the mats (usually I will replace the cheaper stuff if it breaks, like everything but behemoth leather on a dalmy break for instance, cause I feel bad) and that if it HQ's I either replace with NQ if its something they don't care if it HQ's or not, OR, they pay me like a set amount, 1-2M for higher end stuff for instance (kyudogi, blessed +1, cursed mitts -1, etc) or i'll set a standard price for stuff at the time with them, make sure they are OK with it, then proceed. For me, its all about profit. Yea, sure, they might go sell it, but that 1-2M that is in my pocket now I earned by placing their mats into my synth boxes, and hitting Enter. I didnt have to buy a single thing.

The above is for people I don't know, not friends with, or not in my LS.

For friends and LS mates, they get to keep whatever they get, if they want to.

This is what I do also. They may go make a ton off the synth but, as stated, I've got a couple mil at ZERO risk. I'm ok with that.
