And yeah, Davis should've been in the championship. He sure has hell should not have lost a game with that team though. Like 3/4 the people I listed were all there that one year.
Haha. Sorry about that good sir. =[

I don't think Roy Williams is a bad coach, I just said he's underachieved. How is that relevant to my argument that Butch Davis is better than Stewart? To keep with your correlation, Roy Williams is a much much better coach than, let's say, a Tom Crean (even though I think saying that Stewart is on the same level as Crean in his respective sport is giving Stewart a ton of undeserved credit) who has massively overachieved.

I like Butch Davis a lot, and I'm a Browns fan so that's saying something. To separate "coaching" and "recruiting" is stupid, it's a lot more responsibility to go get high school players that fit your system and coach them up over the course of the year than to just manage a game for sixty minutes on Saturday. Butch Davis excelled at Miami because of that NFL-caliber talent, which he is primarily responsible for. It shouldn't detract from his accomplishments by saying "wow he had a stud roster and didn't get to the NC game." I believe he's another good recruiting class away from being a perennial fixture atop the ACC, and it might begin next season because Rivals has UNC as the #6 class so far.

To say that Miami team "should not have lost" is what I dislike about college football. The expectation of running the table is getting old, playoff system or gtfo. That team lost @ Washington by 5, the same Washington team that won the Pac-10, the Rose Bowl and finished #3. Even great teams can let one slip on the road.

lolCoker. 20-1 against the Big East with mostly Davis's players, and 14-10 against the ACC after the switch.

It was an intentional snub to try to set Tyche up. Even you didn't give Davis enough credit there honestly, he got screwed by prior coaches cheating and lost 31 scholarships while he was building that team, it's just beyond absurd what he was able to do there team building wise.

That Miami team should've run the 2nd and 3rd best teams completely off the field any day of the week damn near effortlessly.

Many great college teams are considered on the basis "how many of them went on to play in the NFL?" Some teams it's "how many went on to be starters in the NFL." That team the only question is how many of those guys are perennial pro-bowlers/potential hall of famers. Seriously, it was fucking absurd.

When Coker won the NC a year after Davis left he had Walter Peyton's son backing up Frank Gore... who was backing up Willis McGahee... who split time with Clinton Portis.

    ... yeah, lol

Coker was a great coach, terrible recruiter. But he did what Davis couldn't with that team, he went undefeated for 2 years and won 2 straight national championships. (they won that gd game dammit)

Anyway, my point is that Davis hasn't won a championship, and he's only had one really great season, and it was with an absurd team. Talking about it like he's this amazing legend of coaching and Bill Stewart is a joke when they have similar starting success and Davis just has a couple more years as a head coach is like... saying UNC is clearly the better team.

My argument for Butch Davis over Bill Stewart is... where exactly has Bill Stewart coached outside of WVU this year and last year's bowl game? VMI, going 8-25 in the three years he was there. Bill Stewart was at Miami as we've said, at Cleveland (which really, who wins in Cleveland for very long?), and then at UNC. He has a combined 87-67 record on those three places (with 24-35 coming from Cleveland).

Butch Davis is better based on experience. That's MY opinion. If you want to argue how you don't think he is, or about how you don't think Butch Davis isn't clearly better than Bill Stewart, then that's fine, but I'd much rather go judge based on experience.

Yes, maybe they should have, and maybe nine times out of ten they beat Washington on the road. They had a bad game, lost three fumbles and got crushed in time of possession, and still almost pulled it out. Was that Davis's fault? Or maybe Ken Dorsey's? He's one of those "NFL talent" guys, but based on how he looked for the Browns he'll be out of a job soon. Or maybe it's just incredibly difficult for a team to come out strong in every game for four straight months, no matter how laden with talent you are.

That's kind of my whole point, Coker might have managed a game better but he's not a better coach. If you look at the other side of the coin, Davis can do what Coker can't; sustain an above-average level of talent in a BCS conference. Which is more important to "coaching" in college football?

I'm just playing devil's advocate really, I like Bill Stewart and think he's done a decent job so far, given what RichRod did. I just think that Davis is on the cusp of another pretty amazing transformation at UNC, but time will tell.

And lol at VMI, I don't think Bear Bryant could have built a winner there.

Coker's 3rd, 4th, and 5th years at Miami were 9-3, 9-3, 7-6. He did fine until the last year, it's just that at Miami 9-3 is not fine.

Speaking of which... Miami is going to be fucking sick next year.

September 12, Oklahoma @ Miami... mark yo shit.

We'll see about WVU next year. Their incoming class is pretty good, but Pat White is virtually irreplaceable.

I'll agree with you there, Miami will be much better next season. So will FSU, and I think college football is better when those two programs are good. Can't let the Gators take over the state completely!

Bama just took a big blow to their Sugar Bowl chances. Andre Smith, the Outland trophy winner, was suspended for the game and was sent home for some possible illegal dealings with an agent. Alabama's stout O-Line all the sudden looks a beat squishier.

They should be fine methinks, I haven't been impressed by any of them individually really, they've just obviously been extremely well coached. It'll probably effect the fluidity a little, but it shouldn't be too big of a difference outside when they're rotating in the 3rd guy, who would've been 4th and likely not played otherwise.

Oh, and, San San Te = best name ever.

Looks like a crapshoot to me.

On a related note, I foresee Plow and I taking the 2 last place spots in the pickem challenge.

Can you say more stuff like this real quick please? I need Rutgers to hold on here for my 20 pointer, and I'm 4-0 with my 22, 23, 24, and 25 pointers since you said that lol.

    edit: gdi... hurry plz! lol

Maybe Utah will get within 20 points now!

Edit: Rutgers is my 24 pointer, but they aren't looking good.

Yeah going for 2 in that situation made no sense to me.

This game is not doing wonders for the draft stock of Britt or Underwood. Well, Britt has been ok.
