    Biggest disappointment?

Ubidays 08: Ubisoft Officially Announces Beyond Good & Evil 2

Getting only that much info about the game in 7 months. That wounds the heart. Time to take a page from Blizzard and not announce games until they're in some remotely playable state.

left 4 dead was a big disappointment for me but i think it was because i just finished playing gears 1 and 2 straight thru on both hardcore and intense for the xbox achievements

2 completely different games even tho they are both FPS - wasn't used to team damage and couldn't get thru the second level on L4D and was extremely frustrated on the first level, and this was playing on 2 player campaign mode so it shouldn't have been as hard as it seemed (we started on hardest setting like we do on all games)

gfx aren't even that impressive we put it down and started to play something else

Warhammer Online is starting to get there. Mythic made some bad decisions which has lead to many players exiting the game. The less players, the faster the game will die, since it relies almost exclusively on PVP. I think the single biggest contributing factor was making too many servers at launch. They spread the population thin to begin with, and are trying to fix things by merging servers. Shoveling people around so early in the life of the game and consolidating servers shakes their customer's confidence, and also might be the deciding factor for new players never picking up the game. You would think companies would learn with buggy game launches, but apparently they haven't learned their lesson yet. WAR is still buggy, and you're almost guaranteed to crash to the desktop once every 2 hours. There are numerous other bugs, but the fact they haven't fixed a CTD bug yet really fucking pisses me off.

Fable 2 - Co-op was overhyped and wasn't really what I was expecting. Typical hack&slash which I found to be quite fun, besides the awkward spell system. The flourishes and combo's you can do are sweet, but overall its a game you can beat 100% with a good gamefaq's guide. The free-roam is to limited and the game is to short, and anyone who likes good boss fights was more then likely disappointed with the ending.

Red Alert 3 by far. I enjoyed it from the fanservice perspective, but the game itself is shit. Engine puts the camera too close, units are oddly balanced, defenses are mostly useless unless you SPAM them together, any many other things.

Don't get me wrong, from a balance perspective most of their decisions made sense... but FUCK. It just screwed up the game in a way worse than turtling and tank rushing.

Oh, Spore too. That was glorified shit.

As much as I defended the game early on, I have to agree. I think they just made it too backloaded. Everything is focused on space which most people won't even have the patience to get to. It could have been so much better if they cut the time in space in half and added depth to the middle stages.

I'm not getting the GTAIV hate though. I thought it was pretty solid. I'm looking forward to the next installment now that they have a current-gen engine to build around and refine.

Fable 2. Way over-hyped. Beat it over a weekend and have no desire to ever play it again.
Too Human. 10 years of hyping for a crappy rental, but I think everyone saw that coming.

GTA4: Having to deal w/ friends & gf's every 20 minutes gets boring and super tedious really fast. I know you can skip em, but you want their "like" meter up for certain things and its just beyond annoying. That, and its just the same old GTA games w/a new story and a better "world." Nothing has really changed aside the gimmicky friend system.

2008 kicked 2007's ass. If you didn't enjoy anything this year you are in for a real treat next year.

I forgot Spore. That was the worst disappointment even ignoring half the hype.

Have to say Spore. I think the hype and waiting 2 yrs + for Spore was a big factor in killing it for me. I was expecting something god like and got crap.

My next biggest disappointment is Mirror's Edge. I was lead to believe that Mirror's would be free roaming, doing quests/missions when you want. Not to mention the fighting makes you want to rip your hair out. If the next one does free roam it could be very good.

I'm also not understanding the hatred of GTA4. It was exactly as it was advertised, new driving system, new shooting system, gigantic city, and the RPG like storyline. The only drawback was the friend system and their constant annoyances. But really you only needed to be friends w/ the Jamaican to get the mobile gun shop. Can't wait for the next one.

    This.

So much potential for great games, yet 90% are trash or for kids under 10.

The whole point of "Mirror's Edge" is for you to have a myriad of choices available to you, all while sticking to a relatively linear path. You can climb a cooling unit, or you can jump on top of it; you can run along a wall to get past it and grab onto a pole; you can find another ladder to get where you're going instead, et cetera. I've mentioned this on the forums before, but it's basically a modern day "Sonic the Hedgehog" (as in, Genesis-style) -- if it had better combat, free-roaming, and so on, it'd be a pretty GTA clone. Why do we need another one of those?

Unfortunately, pretty much everyone who has played "Mirror's Edge" has missed the point, so the game's sales are doing horribly and EA is considering canning the franchise already. People are complaining about story, and combat, and all of these things that are just asides to the real experience -- nobody cares about the replay value because they don't like to replay games that way. It's very sad.

People used to knock EA for not innovating, and now that they are, no one cares. (I don't disagree on "Spore," though, but I was never excited about it at all, so I don't think about it much.) Cool, they'll be back to just churning out sports titles in no time.

Little Big Planet (I still play occasionally but it was so not what I was expecting.)
Mirrors Edge (Storyline made me bork, but I did enjoy time trials xD)
PS3's Home (Hello! Where are you? ;_; )
Quantum of Solace (Nowhere near as fun as Goldeneye...)

SC2 not making it out in 2008. At least I got to play it though (and Diablo3 - that was a pleasant surprise, even though its likely to make the list for disappointment from not being released for a couple consecutive years as well).

I didn't have high expectations for much else this year though, so I wasn't really disappointed anywhere else, even with Fallout3 (which was the first fallout I've played, and I went in with literally zero expectations for a good game, lol).
