I have no problem with those type of endings, as long as the sequels actually show up sooner or later.
I mean seriously, they finished Assassin's Creed the way they did, making it lead straight into AC2... but then they come out to the media and claim that AC2 won't be released until there's more demand for it... wtf is that supposed to mean? The more time passes the more people will forget about AC. I don't want to have to replay AC1 in 2 years just to play AC2.
I actually don't have a problem with Assassins Creed ending, I know a lot of people hated it. But Prince of Persia ending just didn't give me any satisfaction at all...

Yeah, I just beat PoP too, the Prince is an idiot, such a dumb move.
Edit: Not saying it was the worst ending I've seen, just saying it was a bad move for the Prince.
Worst ending so far? As much as I loved dead space, I don't see how the fuck the ending worked.
One terrible ending that I thought of recently was Eternal Sonata. After killing some huge boss, you walk into the new area and Chopin's like "'K guys, it was fun and all, but we're gonna have a fight to the death now." I know they had to close the story with Chopin dying, since the entire story is based around his death, but c'mon, really? After all that, you just have a fight and kill him without any real context?
Um.. if I recall, there's a good 5 minute cutscene before that fight, where he explains why he needs to fight everyone. You call that no real context?
And that's besides the fact that I agree about the ending being terrible. Everything that transpires after the fight makes no sense at all.
That explaination consists mostly of "I'm the ruler of this imaginary world and you are all subordinate to me so now I have to fight you." Yes, there's context, but when I say real context I mean something that actually has some decent logic behind it. He doesn't need to fight them, he chooses to, and that's what doesn't make sense to me, other than the devs needing to kill Chopin off before the end of the game.
I absolutely loved the game as a whole, probably one of the most beautiful environments I've seen in a game, with a fun yet simple combat system to back it up, but the ending just left a pretty "wut?" taste in my mouth.
Okay yeah, I get that. But I recall it being a little deeper than just 'i'm the ruler, fight me'... wasn't it something about him needing to prove to himself that this world was his creation and that he can't die in it or whatever?
I dunno I might be wrong, it's been a year or so since I've played it last.
What I do remember is, that the whole thing that happens after Chopin dies (in the dream world) is wtfweird and makes no sense at all, other than the fact that it just shows that the dream is recurring and repeating itself (the girl whose name escapes me at the moment starting all over again, coming from the sky etc.)
Either way, the story was pretty great up until that point heh.
When I beat ES I was so confused w/ the ending so looking at a bunch of forums until I finally pieced it together. I'm saved it on my comp but am too lazy to piece together the forums conversation over a few paragraphs, so I'll just repost the forum Q & A type thing. It's a big wtf type thing when you read this all and will prolly make ur head explode, but it makes pretty good sense: I didn't write this and just copy/pasting stuff... spoiler tagging it cause its long:
Spoiler: show
No, that's exactly it. But that's the thing, though. If I went and tried to fight all of my friends to the death because I believed and had to prove I was in some dream that I'm the absolute ruler of, and just ended up getting killed, what's the point? What is there to gain? I either lose my friends or I lose my life and prove I'm wrong. Either way I end up losing something and can't prove that I was right, and I just look fucking stupid for doing it in the first place. There's no logical reason behind what he did.
and
Katlan, yeah, that would make the story make a bit more sense, but anything that's only vaguely hinted at enough that it takes several hours of collaboration between multiple people to determine one possible reasoning is flirting with the border of fan-fic and non-canon in my book. The rest of the game wasn't nearly that deep to warrant an unexplained ending like that, so a more likely story is "The devs threw together a bunch of weird shit to make the ending on time for the release."
It's been so long since I played this (Had to import it because it was banned in the UK) but what was the true ending?
Spoiler: show
No.
That's the first ending, get to the top of the Chrystler building and defeat the "true" Eve for one of the worst endings you've ever seen.
It's essentially the idea that after the events of Final Fantasy VIII Rinoa uses her newfound sorceress powers to dick around and do whatever sorceresses generally do and Squall is her knight. Eventually Squall dies, and the reason Ultimecia wants to achieve time compression is to be able to reunite with Squall.
Some notable "clues" that point to this off the top of my head
Ultimecia's castle in the present is located at the old orphanage, where Squall said he would be waiting for her if they ever got separated.
Ultimecia immediately chooses Seifer to be her makeshift knight, since Seifer was Rinoa's old boyfriend
Ultimecia has the Griever GF.
Griever was the big one too. If you called Griever "Penis" at the end of CD2, in CD4 Ultimecia will summon "Penis", not Griever.
There were more clues, you can just watch this vid here: YouTube - Final Fantasy Theories - Rinoa is Ultimecia.
I personally believe this specific one because it makes a lot of sense. Eternal Sonata sorta does too, but ES is a big mindfuck. A lot of people bitched about the fact that Ultimecia doesn't recognize Squall when they arrive to assassinate her in the future, but if Ultimecia had Griever equipped this entire time she would've had memory loss just like everyone else who had GFs equipped. I'd say that all she remembered was the time compression, and not necessarily the reason to her trying to achieve it.
Rinoa/ultimecia theory add so much to the story it can't be wrong. If it was creating one contradiction or plothole...I could understand, but it works flawlessly with everything we know.
They probably didn't make it obvious to the players because it would have been obvious to the characters as well, and the ending would have been corny as hell if Squall knew that before killing her. I think Griever was suposed to be the "big" hint, but most players missed it.
Why would she dies near Edea too?...out of everyone she could have picked. You can't build a story around "coincidences", and FF writter know this just as well as anyone. Some notable "clues" that point to this off the top of my head

Here is some quote from Rinoa before the Ragnarok lands (before she get sealed by Esthar)
The bolded line seriously hint at time compression.Originally Posted by Rinoa
They never explain in this game Ultimecia's motives or mention the advantage she would get out of it. Because of this, Rinoa's line particularly stand out...especially after you considering Griever and everything else. Sure, the line would still work in the context, but that's one hell of a coincidence that the writter picked those words right before the events.
What Ultimecia has to say now?
Where are the "k"?Originally Posted by Ultimecia
