Treasure Casket - Initial Findings

1) The amount of attempts allowed on a casket is either governed by the area it is found in (e.g. starting areas' caskets always have 5 attempts) or it is random between 4-6 attempts such as those caskets found in the highest level areas such as Behemoth's Dominion or Xarcabard.

2) The attempts are used up by each person in a party guessing combinations or inspecting the lock. If you are in a party and examine a locked casket and there's anything less than 4 attempts left on it, that means your party members have been hitting it already as there are only 4, 5, or 6 attempts. No more, no less.

Are you positive about this? When we got the locked chest in BD (party of 3), only the person who got the kill touched the chest. I definitely didn't touch the box and the other person was across the other end of zone. The person who tried to open the chest said he only got 2 chances.

I am probably now going on upwards of literally 60+ successfully unlocked brown treasure caskets with no rare/ex items inside. I have been killing shit across Behemoth's Dominion, Sauromugue Champaign, Rolanberry Fields, Sarutabaruta, and Ronfaure, and inside every damn casket, I have only received meds, logs, ores, and the occasional shitty leather trousers or the like.

Is this normal? People saying they had 2 herder's in a chest is becoming like Salvage screenshots of 10 hikazu feet dropping in one run, to me.

That's the experience I've had. I've spent about 25 hours total so far, most of it in Sarutabaruta where I can gather 10-20 mobs and nuke them all at once, and I've not seen one single rare/ex yet.

I don't even need the gun from Sarutabaruta! It's not worth the endless hours I've spent there trying to get it! It's just pissing me off that I've done all this work and gotten nothing so far...

Got the Gothic Sabatons in BD last night. I've logged about ten hours there total, and last night me and a few friends had total zone claim for a few hours. All mobs were killed as they repoped. After 3 hours of that, we finally got a single drop. In total, I've probably opened about 25 chests there. I stopped keeping track after 15 brown chests and billions of blue chests. So, ~1/25 for me here. That zone sucks, I'm having much more fun in Xarcabard since there are actually mobs to kill, and I don't have to fight for claims.

Agreed. I've spent 3 evenings in there and no luck. What's worse is that it only takes 3 people to clear the zone out, and people can get really silly when it comes to getting mobs.

It seems I had some incredible luck getting my Sabatons & Gauntlets so fast, but I can't seem to get Phal. Trousers in Dunes at all. I've been soloing some FoV and i've probably opened 20+ Brown Caskets and obtained everything from Linen Slops to Rock Salt to Lauan Logs. I can see how this would get rather frustrating if it was an item you want. (/o\) not that I really want the trousers, I just find it funny I can't seem to get lucky on the Caskets again, lol.

Have you done any basic testing on the gauntlets? How's the proc rate on em?

From my quick very unscientific testing on the Boots before I went to bed, I would say the proc rate on a single piece is less than 10%.

I got it to proc twice out of maybe 20 or so hits on me. I didn't want them for the ice-spikes alone though. Gogo good PLD feet under level 50 with Enmity on them!

I won't say the proc rate is super-awesome, but its kind of noticeable with both pieces on. It's nothing above maybe 10-15%. Using them on my NIN i noticed the paralyze actually stuck pretty well when it proc'd onto Garliage Chamber Beetles. I would say they're more worth it for the Stats at their level and the enmity for NIN since Arhats is a bit higher. Oh, and it's been said above, but they do look cool. :)

I got those trousers from the dunes by chance while doing a training regime there... too bad the only job I'll probably use them on is COR since all of my other jobs that can wear them are high enough level for me to not need these any more.
(Unless there's fire weather... and fat chance of me bringing these around just for that)

Just got a chest in Qufim, 6 attempts to unlock, unlocked on my sixth attempt, and got absolutely nothing. Didn't see any mention of not getting anything yet, but perhaps I overlooked it.

Was solo, it stated the chest was successfully opened by me, then nothing happened. I stood around for about 5min, checked my inventory, nothing.

I can't really see what's going on in your picture, but you know you have to click the chest _again_ after successfully unlocking it to get the item(s) out of it, correct? Otherwise it will sit there open for a few minutes, and then despawn.

I'd bet this is probably what happened. Even if you unlocked it it probably despawned shortly after, since you took longer than the time the chest is out.

I'd say about 10% at most. I've been using it while farming the boots in behemotdom and I don't get hit very often so its rather slow testing.

I'll try to keep track of every hit this session.

I got a Carapace Subligar from a Brown checst in Xarc. Other than that I haven't noticed much for stuff.
