    Cannot complete update

Every time I try to complete the update, it does one of two errors,
#1 This is weird because I'm obviously connected to the internet etc.

If anyone could please help me out, I've tried Port Forwarding, Disabling Firewall, Re-installed FFXI and POL completely, and nothing works. PLEASE HELP, this is so annoying.

    Coincidentally:

    http://www.bluegartr.com/forum/techn...layonline.html

    Some other Google results:

"In any event i disabled file sharing on the home network and it worked fine. Just in case anyone else has this trouble."

"I went ahead and erased the patch.ver file and let the scan run again. It worked."

It will get to this screen
    http://img296.imageshack.us/img296/7...lupdatebk8.png
and then it will go to one of the two screens posted earlier. I tried deleting the patch.ver file and that didnt do anything, and I dont know how to disable fire sharing on the home network (I dont think we even have that). I appreciate the help but nothing is working, I've called the support thing 3 times and they've done nothing as usual. Please help

Just to be clear, you don't access the files on other people's computers within your home from your own PC, do you? If not, then we can proceed. If you want to disable some things, first things first:

    1. Click "Start," then "Control Panel."
    2. Double-click "Network Connections," and you should see something labeled "Local Area Connection." If you have only one, proceed to step 3.
2a. If you have more than one, right-click and disconnect the first, then try to access the internet. If you can't, that's the one you want; right-click and re-enable it. If that's not it, do this with the others until you find the one you need.
    3. Right-click "Local Area Connection" and select "Properties," and your "Local Area Connection Properties" window will appear. It will have several boxes with checkmarks, and you should make sure certain boxes are unchecked according to my example:

    http://img528.imageshack.us/img528/2190/tcpipnz5.jpg

    4. Ensuring that you've left "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" checked, click "OK" and close all of the windows until you return to the Control Panel.

Now, to disable something else, which is called "Simple File Sharing":

    1. In the Control Panel, click "Tools" near the top of the window, then "Folder Options."
    2. Click the "View" tab, and you'll see a bunch of boxes within a section called "Advanced Settings."
    3. Scroll down to the bottom and uncheck "Use simple file sharing (Recommended)."
    4. Hit "OK," then close everything and try to start FFXI.

If it still doesn't work, I would simply say to not be discouraged and simply keep trying, as within the link above, a user was eventually able to get the update to work. I know that's not a very satisfying answer, but if your computer is in operating condition and you've already tried reinstalling FFXI amongst other things, I'm not sure what else there is to suggest. Maybe someone else will have an idea.

I'm retarded, don't mind me. Edited the instructions so it directs you to that tab properly.

Sorry to be a bother, but "Use Simple Fire Sharing" wasn't an option.

Hm. Now that I look at the System picture you posted above, it states that you have XP Home Edition. Within Home Edition, you can't turn off simple file sharing as easily (the instructions above assume you have XP Pro). If you still want to go through with this -- and I make no promises about this fixing your FFXI problem, so brace yourself for potentially no payoff at the end -- then here you are:

What he just posted is your best bet now, as aside from that there doesn't really seem to be anything you can do. I would gather you're unfortunately getting the short end of the stick when it comes to reaching SE's servers, and that your update will ideally work eventually, but downloading the files from someone else should be faster.

This is so stupid, I downloaded the update files and that too did not work. I'm mostly getting the "Network Connection Issue" error now.

do you have any antivirus, firewall program running? disable all of them, then run update again.

    1. Pack up all your FFXI discs, put them in a bag with a lighter, and bring them with you.
    2. Strap a sledgehammer to your back.
    3. Go to SE's building in El Segundo, California, storm inside (they don't have security in the lobby), scream that they're all asshole sons of bitches. Improvise with additional colorful statements if you'd like.
    4. Run outside, spill the contents of the bag on the ground, then light the bag on fire on top of them.
    5. Start smashing it with your sledgehammer and enjoy the fiery, shattering death of everything FFXI you ever knew.
    6. Run away before you get arrested (this is very important. You may also want to wear a ninja mask).

One thing nobody has mentioned that is a common problem: Don't launch windower to patch, not only can it get you busted but it can fuck up your shit.

Try it straight through NQ POL

(Kohan: Holy balls how do you see anything with that blue on blue @_@)
