I don't know why any of you are bitching, SE will NEVER go back on any of their decisions, so letter or not, this is all pointless.

This is one of the most sensible things anyone has said in this thread.

I think that the point of my entire rant was lost in the mix. It's simple. There's no ONE good way to make money. It's just like real life.

I'll use a standard prop example to illustrate. She's rich as fuck. She started with very little. She's got a lot now, and you have to be living in Bin Laden's cave not to be familiar with her. It's Beyonce. Now....

She sings (maybe not the BEST singer, but she keeps at it).
    She tours (again, whatever).
She produces (trifecta of mixed results).
    She acts.
She makes an effort to keep her business moving (interviews, personal appearances).
She did this all over the course of years, and exercises patience, then uses earned income to grow it exponentially over time rather than pissing it away on crap. (Before you say "she's got lots of bling," consider she raked in something like $133million this year, so a car is like a dozen eggs to the rest of us.)

Now, let's look at the hobo schlock fuck strumming his acoustic in some coffee shop:

    He's "being an artist."
He continues to sing some horrid bastardization of Jewel and Frank Black, because eventually people will have to come around and realize that it's the best thing for them.
He doesn't do anything besides hang out in said coffee shop, since it brings him "comfort for his soul and closeness to the mother earth and his musical roots."
He doesn't promote, doesn't tour, and doesn't take lessons.
He rallies against the world, record companies, and people who have succeeded as "uneducated," "the man holding him back," and "corporate sellouts" respectively.
    He's a broke-ass piece of gutter trash.

Now, how does this apply to everyone? Well, people can choose to be multifaceted, and use some or all of the many (ISNM, ENM, BCNM, Mobs, Meripo, Rare/EX, Salvage, Assault, Campaign, farming, gardening, mining, harvesting, logging) options available to get a bunch of little bits of cash and turn it into a money stack.

Or, they can opt to be a one-trick pony, and wait for the world to come around to them. Oh, and bitch about how rich Beyonce is and how Sony Music is just holding back their obvious talents.

Your comparison is retarded a lot of people who make shit loads of money IRL do one job. Farming blood can not be compared to a douche with a guitar who sits around doing nothing because: farming = productive, sitting around a coffee shop being a douche = not productive.

It's funny though how people complaining about losing their way to make gil bugs you. Did the vendoring of this shit really hurt you at all? If not then why the hell do you care that people are upset by having the way that they enjoyed making gil taken away? This wasn't even an exploit. If SE suddenly decided that gardening or crafting was negatively effecting the economy and added all the items for sale at vendors for ridiculously low prices how would you react?

People have every right to be pissed off when SE fucks over the way they make gil. This isn't a moral or legal discussion there's no right or wrong if it's not an exploit. You're acting egoistical. If you really want to pat yourself on the back for being smart when it comes to making gil then great but don't come off like you're the fucking Dalai Lama showing the light that is "the correct way to make gil." You're not really offering advice you're just saying STFU and stop whining. Sadly if you just came out and said that then at least you wouldn't have wasted your time typing out paragraphs illustrating your mentally perceived superiority.

Though on the one note I do agree with a lot of other people this topic doesn't really belong in advanced discussion.

Damned if I do, and damned if I don't. Guess I'm one of the few people who feel that being familiar with the vast amount of content the Devs provide through years of working (on a lot of things concurrently, I presume) should be explored to the fullest. As for your line about people making a shitload of money IRL with one job, I'm curious about what you can provide as an example? Note: I'm assuming that the job would include more than one function, not some vague shit like "CEO of a huge firm" or "big rich lawyer."

But I'll heed your advice: For people who feel trapped by losing the one way they feel money can be made (despite my attempts to illustrate the other options), STFU and stop whining. Use some of that energy to make gil, or apply for MogStamps and gov't cheese.

P.S. Maybe you don't think it's "advanced" discussion, but some people sure as hell are having trouble grasping it....

1.People who farmed this shit are pissed because it's not worth it anymore.
2.People who didn't farm it and are smart are not even reading this thread.
3.People who didn't farm it and are fucking douchebags are criticising those who did for a variety of emotionally fragile reasons.

    Consider it grasped.

I'm not saying this is the "greatest" thing to happen to FFXI and yes it does affect the playerbase a tad more than the few RMT left in my opinion but there are other ways to make gil other than farming.

Can't we all just get along...

I went to sell mistletoe on the AH today and it's down to 600 gil on Titan. Far cry from when it used to be 5k per single when I used to farm before I took my break in September. Oh well.

Dang, i just spend an hour reading this thread because i didnt even know they lowered the prices on these items. People who think this is going to destroy the gil coming into the ffxi economy need to calm down. There are plenty of other methods of introducing new gil into the economy (nms, merit pts, quest/missions, xxNMs that drop gil). I'm sure there are plenty of people that were affected by this, but instead of crying about how you lost your way of making gil (because indeed thats what people were crying about, not about how its the lack of introduction of new gil that will crash the economy), you could have use that time to think of a new way to make gil.

    1) Retraces - I always see people shouting for this for a good 2 minutes before someone snags them up, at least on my server. Whenever I am bored or waiting for an ls event to start up, i can make a solid 20k from just retraces, not including the holla/dem/mea shouts.

    2) Gardening - Maybe most players don't have BLM leveled, gardening is an excellent source of income. Whatever you choose to farm and depending on how many mules you have, its hard to not make a few hundred k from this every week or so.

    3) Farming - If you are really low level and cannot do these things, there is always something you can farm. I remember being as low as a lvl 10 blm with no sub farming beehive chips for spells. There is ALWAYS something you can farm, you just need to do the research.

    4) Crafting - Other posters have already said this but crafting is probably the single best way to make gil in this economy. Before you say anything, No, you dont need millions of reserve gil to fund a craft from 0-100. If you farm your ingredients and are patient, you can level a craft AND make gil at the same time. I am currently working on Alchemy and have gotten up to 82 so far. I can safely say that at least until level 60, I didnt have a single synth where i lost gil.

    5) xxNMs - If you have thousands of reserve ISP, what are you going to do with it? Buy silver pieces for the warp taru? Sell gold coins on the AH? You can turn that ISP into a chance at K ores or flood scrolls. Its true that ISNMs arent as good as they used to be, but they are still a good way to convert your ISP into gil.

Without actually saying what i do for gil, I have given 5 alternatives to making gil instead of npcing the 5 or so items that were slashed because of this update. Can we all just give it a rest now and start going out there and make some gil?

Though, in such a broad economy, we should not take away viable methods of income. All the aforementioned tips on making gil will only inundate the market with items, thus lowering the price, and making that one more option you cannot use. I have not read anything outside of ISNM, crafting, gardening, and teleport/warps. They really need more repeatable quests with average gil rewards, and stop taking away real methods to make gil. With less and less RMT I guess they feel people should be able to earn gil.

Kaibelf was a bard, you know how that goes - first career bards are asses. I would just ignore him and let him shout and scream because thats what he is good at
