Besides, unless you NPCed every single drop from that 1 year of Demon farming, I don't think his post was directed at you or those like you.

Anyway. 3 of my RL friends started playing, They're 55 now, and they haven't had to farm once. Money quests have given them everything they need (SAM has jujitsu gi, koryukagemitsu camped bounding boots etc.). At start its rough, but as you get access to other areas it's easier and easier: at least by the time you could farm those nerfed items you could also do these quests.

If you also think ores and saplings are the money makers in gardening... think again :3.
    Another cop out...
everyone keeps saying "use your brain there are tons of awesome ways to make gil still" but all of you are scared to give up any of yours... what? scared someone might fuck up your secret profit? why? there are tons more money making options out there =p

give me something the average joe who has a day job and a life outside of FF can farm and manage to keep his job well equipped, event fees covered and some food in his belly =p

One day, Mr. Face was walking through the park and ran into Mrs. Palm. The quickly fell in love and Mrs. Palm gave birth to a beautiful baby Whoosh. A short time later Mrs. Palm left Mr. Face when she found him getting a blow job from Rocl. ~ Fin.

Well, I sure as hell am not going to post it on a public forum :> what a stupid way to lose my moneymaking method that would be!

I've found most of my events to cover the fees by themselves though, like dynamis I pay 10k to get in and get maybe 5 coins as average.. thats like 25k minimum. ABC's still sell for 6k+ even though the fee is 15k nowadays.. Alexandrite is good for covering the food costs. etc!

    10k leujaoam sanctum AP = 140k~
8k Lebros cavern AP = 150k~ Too bad all my AP goes for nyz&salv, but should be enough for casual playstyle imo.

Truth be told people who look for the be all end all (Well if you have money tell me how to make it type) there is no 1 damned impervious way to make gil. You want a trick to make gil? quit whining and do more than spam the enter key in zval? There are also plenty of NPCable items that havent been destroyed too... because no one knows about them. The first rule of fight club is you dont talk about fight club. Go find your place in the sun and QQ yourself to death there. If you still have no idea how the hell to make money or go hai guys! look how much i make NPCing <insert item here> you deserve to not make gil.

I farm Alkyoneus for gil. I am by no means broke. I have been in the process of leveling alchemy for some months now and recently hit 98. I NPC items whenever i get them, but do not rely on them as a sole source of income. I AH items that are worth more there than at NPCs and vice-versa. Frugality counts, dont buy a choco when you can run there.

I consider myself to be an average Joe, shit im at work right now. But for shits sake saying omg SE took my only way to make money and shoved it up my ass isnt going to get them to change it, make anyone feel sorry for you, or put gil in your pocket.

When you first start the game the players guide and starting npc tells you to go out and kill mobs for drops and sell them on the AH or to NPC vendors for gil. That was a lie?
Lie? Well you said they said it, so I guess its not a lie. My apologies. But it seems SE told you how to make money so why are you asking the forum for help?

Um... there are no secret camps. It's all so situational that no one thing works for everyone. SE also works very hard to make sure that there is no "go here and spam this for gil" type places.

It sounds like a broken record but, find what works for you. Some spots can't be farmed as well on some jobs. Some crafts can't be done well by ppl on different servers, or even different nations because of supplies. So it's hard to say exactly what to do.

I had to QQ real quick because this really worked for me. If I got low just go and spend an hour and boom, I had food or med money. I'll find something else.

As for the QQing, SE needs to keep gil flow in check, and when they see a massive % of people NPCing shit and exploiting how much stuff is worth there over the AH, about 3 things immediatly go to their mind:

    -What about the Crafters?
    -Do I smell RMT?
    -ZOMG inflationz!

Putting the NPC value on some of this stuff down puts it on AH to promote crafting with it, cuts the RMT back, and cuts new gil coming onto the server by 1/3 on those chars* (assuming people keep farming it, which they wont). Whats that all mean; more abundance of items, and ironically less demand for them because no one can afford them now (or at least all the QQers) so prices drop again and you all get your wish after suffering. Just my take on the issue.

*On those characters only and on those items only. In no way am I saying gil flow actually just got cut by 1/3. Just trying to ballpark it, use that as a guideline of me saying gil influx took a hit.
Um . . okay? Have you ever crafted? Who here has leveled crafting without gil? Start at 0 gil with no gil at all? Even with crafting, you need to go out and farm money. Taking these methods of making gil will just hurt the economy, not help it.

Do you even know what inflation is? Look at what is going on around you now. Look at the recession/inflation we are experiencing in the US now. What does the government do? They hand out bailouts and tax refund to stimulate the economy. If they did what SE did and take out 1/6th of people's income then the economy will crash.

Although a nice lern2read aimed in my direction is probably more applicable than a whoosh. Good try though!

I'm in the camp of that I've never 'farmed' persay in a loooooong time and I've been able to support myself fairly well.

Through a mix of crafting, enms, bcnms, etc. I've been able to afford gear without HELMing or killing the same mob over and over for gil. When you first start, you don't have a choice. Noone is arguing that... but once you hit 75, you should have /plenty/ of methods available quite honestly.

This isn't about asking for help, i'm just tired of people who didn't farm it to begin with sticking their big noses in it just to point out what epic fails all us NPC farmers are.

These were legit camps, and they met alot of peoples needs and for really no reason at all SE felt like screwing with them. I do have a few crafts 40+ and WW80 but I make no money on consumables with 80WW and there is really no high risk high reward items at this level either. So I spend 2 hours crafting lumber to craft into bloody bolts for a slim profit, and its too expensive to finish off WW so I can try for HQ shura stuff, so it was a dead end for me and I had wished i never sank any money into it. I have other things to turn to for money, but its a real pain in the ass losing these simple and quick farms and having to return to ones I was tired and glad to be rid of. Playing this game its nice to look forward to new ways of making money, not having SE cut out more.

Bullshit. If you're willing to do the work, you can make profit while skilling many crafts. Maybe not all the way to 100, but for example take leather to 60 and you can not only make money while skilling it, you can make money while remaining at 60.

Also bullshit. Alchemy is my second most money-making craft. You have to do the research, do a little work, know your market to make money.

Lazy crafters cannot make money in Alchemy. Anyone who is willing to put work in will do fine.

God. I should just keep my mouth shut. Yes, all you bitching people, there's no money to be made in crafting! Stay away! Shoo!

    Edit:

Start a new character a mage job would be ideal seeing as it would be really hard to afford gear AND the ridiculous NPC price for spells (funny how they don't change these) i'd love to see how a from scratch red mage would get to 75 with anything but piss poor gear until artifact and if he is lucky only a third of his spells.

My first job was WHM. I got leathercraft to 80 while my WHM was no higher than 30. Do you know how hard that was to level leather when I basically couldn't farm? But I still did it, AND bought armor/spells because I was willing to work at it.

If I could do it, anyone can. FFXI was my first MMO, I was behind the eight ball to begin with and I still succeeded. If I could do it, you can too.

Obvious troll, given the name, but I'll bite, because I bet there are some other people thinking the same think, since they haven't thought it through yet.

No one who is smart, will give away the specifics of how they make money. They do that on a public forum where everyone reads, then suddenly their moneymaking method is flooded by hundreds of idiots. The profit takes a dump. Imagine if 100 people tried to farm whatever it was that you farmed, at the same time you tried to. Would kinda suck, eh?

I haven't had to farm for a long time. I get money mainly doing what I do anyway. So let me toss some generalities at you:

BCNM and KSNM: If you're doing kclub and PCC charm BC's, you're an idiot. They are the "worst" at getting you gil, on average. Sure, some lucky nut will wind the lottery. But the odds are, it's not you. Sucker. It's easy to get seals, if you know a few tricks.

ENM: Some jobs can solo some ENMs, and make decent money doing so, provided drops are good. I've heard RDMs and BLMs soloing some, SMNs, MNKs, and PUPs soloing others. I'm debating trying to solo some on BLU.

Crafting: Most crafts can make you money, skilling them up. The only way you lose money, is you try to PL your craft up high. Take your time, and skill up as you get materials doing other things, or buying when materials are cheap.

Farming: Yes, there is still a ton of stuff out there to farm. This is where I'll give you the one specific, since I no longer use it: Beadeaux. Farming Garnet quads, and some old quads. There are about 3 NMs with low respawn times, near each other. I did a loop, killing the proper placeholders.

Teleporting: Honestly, everyone should level WHM to at least 42. Maybe 55 now. It's cheap and easy to do, and gives you the convenience of teleports. And a lot of times, I just idle in Jueno or whitegate and snap up teleports. Also, leveling BLM to 55 for retrace is a good money maker. Never seems to be enough BLMs doing retrace.

CP, AN, and IS: I turn these into gil. It takes a bit of research, to know exactly what the best exchange rate item(s) are. When I campaign, or merit, or level low level jobs, I'm making money at the same time.

Buy low, resell high: I don't do this much, but I know people that swear by it. If you know what to buy, in rolanmart or AH, and know what it really can sell for. You can snap up a bunch of cheap items, remark them, and resell to idiots who will pay more.

And this is just for starters. Consider this Darwinism in action. The smart adapt and thrive. The dumb and weak are weeded out. If youc an't make money, you're dumb and weak. I know you don't want to hear it, but....

The good news is, that you can get Smart! You have to use wiki, compare prices of stuff, and what things sell for on AH and to NPC. It took me awhile to do the research, but now money isn't an issue. And I don't have any crafting skill!
