Still waiting for the moment when they finally break a scandal on Daley. Dude has been mayor of Chicago since I was like 7 or so (now 26) and has been unbeatable for elections. I think Daley is great, but he's about as old school as they come....if he doesn't like you, chances are your political career is dead in this city.

GG two governors back to back involved in corruption charges, least no one got hurt by Blago like they did when Ryan was giving out free CDL's to unlicensed and unproven applicants.

If I were him, I would say that this sounds like a great idea, but it would be entirely irresponsible to spend millions of dollars to hold a special election with the state the economy is in right now. I would say that I'm going to appoint the person who I think is best qualified for the job, then hold a special session of the state senate and have them confirm the pick. If the public still doesn't like the pick then they can vote him out of office when the seat comes up for reelection in 2 years.

I agree with you, but considering the stigma of corruption that Blago's "alleged" actions have created regarding the Senate seat I don't think ANYONE can possibly be appointed without becoming a extended symbol of this corruption. And yeah, at this point with only two years left in this seat's elected term, it makes almost no sense to hold a special election when there will be another within two years.

Also, an update - turns out the first person to suggest a special election was Lt.Gov. Quinn at his press conference.

I thought he was retiring from the State Senate after this year so I was under the impression he would not be interested. Maybe Jesse Jackson was gonna buy his son the seat. Honestly, best pick would be that Iraqi vet in charge of VA in Illinois.

I've heard it speculated in a few places that he's "Senate Candidate #5", the one caught offering $500k for the seat, but I've also heard Jesse Jackson Jr. and practically all of the other publicly-discussed candidates thrown into that position. I guess we'll find out soon enough, but whoever Senate Candidate #5 is is pretty much fucked one way or the other.

Not like that scenario is diff from any high profile entity. Only those who are accussed of committing an act w/ makes them a high risk to the general public aren't offered bail, [or the bail is made so high they can't afford it].
