The previous governor was a republican and is also in prison, so tbh neither party has that great of a track record in Illinois

After this many governors in legal trouble I have no choice but to lay the blame squarely at the feet of the Illinois electorate and have them resign from voting forever for their continued lack of diligence in vetting their ruling officials. I hereby remand the office of governor to be appointed by neighboring Indiana, who as far as I can tell have an unbroken 51 year streak of governors who are not sent to jail and let's face it, most people can't tell the difference between the two states anyway.
this is why states rights are silly
all they do is ban gays/blacks/buttsex/etc and appoint douchebag governors.
Yeah, because the nation as a whole has done a great job picking Presidents coughbushcough recently, right?
Also, I think it's funny that Blago still has the authority to appoint a Senator. I would be willing to forgive him if he made himself a Senator next week, it would be worth it for the lolz.
there's probably some law to stop that from happening.
just like there's laws from selling the seat in the 1st place.
Ok, I have to admit:
Blago's got some enormous testicles.
Despite virtually the entirety of the legislative branch telling him "Don't do it man, don't appoint someone, I swear, if you do we'll be really mad and pretend we don't acknowledge them" Blago did it anyway.
And adding to his bowling-ball sized sack-marbles, he picked a black guy. Which would be the only black guy in the Senate now that Barack's gone, and he found someone to immediately decry the effort to reject the pick by declaring "dat's wasist!"

Blago is my new hero. This guy doesn't give a fuck, it's an awesome power play.Rep. Bobby Rush, an Illinois Democrat who was invited to speak at Blagojevich's news conference, urged Senate leaders not to block Burris. In fact, he almost dared them to try to stop Burris' appointment.
"There is no rhyme or reason why he should not be seated in the U.S. Senate," Rush said. "I don't think any U.S. senator ... wants to go on record to deny one African-American from being seated in the U.S. Senate."
He told reporters that Senate Democrats should not "hang and lynch the appointee as you try to castigate the appointer."
Who was the last Senator that was refused a seat after being elected you ask? Well, a notorious white-supremacist, in 1946:
Delicious ironing.Theodore G. Bilbo, a virulent white supremacist accused of intimidating black voters and corrupt campaign practices, was the last man denied a seat in the U.S. Senate, after the voters of Mississippi elected him to a third term in 1946.
I'd think having a name like theodore g. bilbo would be grounds enough for getting kicked out of the senate.... Blago's got balls but its not like it takes much to politically outsmart Harry Reid, or most democrats for that matter.
I can't believe these dumb-asses are going to interject race into this shit after the kind of election we just had.
