Dogs and fucking bubbles, amazing. Also Abandon's puppy is something else.
Looking for some advice with my dog on dealing with kids.
My dog's a Dogue De Bordeaux(French Mastiff), he turned 6 last August, I've had him since he was 12 weeks. He's been around people his whole life, he's very friendly but at the same time territorial, if someone he doesn't know is on the outside of our backyard, than he's got his guard up, once we allow you in, he'll sniff you then he'll be very friendly with you once he sees we've welcomed you in. He's aggressive with other dogs around food(he lived with 2 other dogs most his life), he's got into a couple scraps with his "brother"(Sisters dog, Australian Sheppard) over food. He's not aggressive towards humans with food though, you can walk up to him and take away treats of food of any sort and he won't do anything other than look at you licking his lips wondering when he'll get it back.
Onto kids though, he seems to get "nervous" around kids sometimes, and I can't understand why, it's not something new, but it's also not something that happens often, but it does happen. He's never attacked or bit anyone, he's nipped me and my sister when we've been playing rough with him, but was completely accidental.
My GF and her 2 kids moved in with me about 5 months ago, now I say he gets "nervous" sometimes, and what happens is he gets shaky, and he'll actually growl. At first I thought it was just his way of telling us "I'm not in the mood to be bothered, get him off of me". My step son is 2, and loves my dog, and he loves to crawl all over him and snuggle with him, and 99.9% of the time my dog is cool with it, and doesn't seem bothered by it at all. But it's that 0.01% of the time that worries me, because I haven't been able to pinpoint what the cause of that 0.01% is.
Over the past 2 weeks my gf's told me of 2 incidents where she thought Bruce was jumping at the little guy, but he never did anything, he just walked away, and both incidents were when Ashton wasn't even crawling on him or near him or anything. Today I witnesses it myself, and I sat back to watch what would happen because I really believe Bruce wouldn't ever hurt anyone unless he viewed them as a threat. What he did is he jumped off the couch and ran up beside Aston then put his mouth around his hand like he was going to bite him, but then did nothing and just turned around and walked away like nothing had happened. Weird as fuck, I'm not sure what to make of it. I used to play a game with my dog where I'd put my fist in his mouth and shake it around and he'd be there growling and playing along, he'd never actually "bite" down on me, he'd just comfortably hold my fist in there snug. Bruce is really playful, he loves to play and has a TON of energy for his breed, but this just seems like something else to me.
Getting rid of him to me is not an option, but his problem is that he has the most stubborn personality on a dog I've ever seen, I've owned and been around dogs my whole life and never seen any quite like him, and so I'm looking for some things I can do to try and change this. So I'm looking for some suggestions on things I can do to try and fix this!
A change in the housing dynamic can have a big affect on dogs, especially dominant ones. The dogs sees it's living situation like a pack. You are the pack leader, he is #2 (assuming you have lived on your own with him most recently.).
Well now his pack is all fucked up, but he still thinks he's #2. Dogs also sometimes get confused because children are much smaller, down at their level, they think they are playmates.
You can help mellow out the situation by having the child interact with the dog in some training. It can be as simple as the child rewarding the dog with a treat for performing whatever command the dog already knows. The process of the dog listening to the child, and then being rewarded for doing so will help. "Nothing in life is free" is really the best way to hash out the pack hierarchy in your home. Google that if you haven't heard of it, very simple process to live with. The dog gets nothing without completing a command first. No petting, no playtime, no walks, no food, no nothing until they first obey a simple command.
I'm sure you do not do this already, but do not ever allow the child and the dog to be together un-supervised. That is an accident waiting to happen. You need to teach the child to respect the dog and treat him properly. That is actually more important than anything else.
Avoid any kind of rough play, tug of war, etc. That is another no-no as it brings out the dominant tendencies in your already dominant dog.
Thanks, I've been trying to do something along those lines. Ashton doesn't speak yet, but I'll have him be the one to reward him when I give a command and it's done, so if I have Bruce sit or give a paw or something, I'll have Ashton reward him with the treat. The thing that bothers me is I can tell my dog loves Ashton, he views him as a member of the "pack", and I see that, he's very protective of both kids when a stranger is outside our backyard, or someone he doesn't know is invited into the house, he's always extra cautious when the kids are there.
To go along with that, he actually plays with Ashton, and shows him affection, he even licks his hand and stuff, which is why this odd behaviour throws me off. My dog has always been predictable, going in to any situation I've always known how my dog will act or react, this is the first time to me he's been unpredictable, so it's a bit of a curveball.
He has absolutely zero problems with the Syara(6 year old), so I can understand the confusion with Ashton being eye level with him. I've been trying to work with Ashton and Bruce in teaching Ashton how to pet him properly and stuff, but he is only 2, so his comprehension isn't the highest, and he still likes to climb on Bruce while Bruce is laying down. If Bruce ever just isn't in a mood to be bothered, he walks away and goes under the table or some place where he knows Ashton won't follow him, and I think that's what confuses me the most. He won't hesitate to walk away when he doesn't want to be bothered, and each of these incidents has happened when Ashton hasn't been paying attention to him.
My daughter wasn't feeling well the other day after school, so she went to lay down on the heated floor in the cat room in our cafe. The cats made sure she stayed warm until she felt better.
This is the results of grooming 15 cats, and I have to do this about once a week. The Furminator is only used on the short-haired ones; on the long-haired cats I use a steel comb and a slicker brush.
The gray cat in the cubby is Dong Pal, an American Shorthair we just got on Tuesday. Normally I keep the names the breeders gave them before they gave them to us, but since his name sounds funny in English I think I may need to change it... Maybe just call him Don?
This is Choco, an Oriental we also got on Tuesday. He's really shy so this is the best picture I could get so far.

@ Aragon. Quixon is 100% spot on. Do not leave the two of them together unsupervised.
Oh I know. I trust my dog, and I can truly say I believe he would never harm him, which is why when it happened and I was there I just watched it and didn't intervene or jump up. However, saying that, I would still never risk leaving them alone right now, I couldn't bare to ever have to put Bruce down should something happen, which is why I'm trying to find a solution, or way to build their "bond".
Spoiler: show
can we call the cat Dong Paul? :D
and your dog in the first picture Fievel looked more along the lines of "does this look like a fucking game to you? help me i don't have thumbs!"
my kitty is hilarious about that shit with collars, if she gets it off when I put it back on she's absolutley miserable for the first day or so, and then like completely forgets it's there
she earned herself a bell because she's just way to much of a dickhead when she thinks she's sneaky...
first day she was so horrified, seriously it was like... bell, bell, it rhymes with hell
within like 2 days it was damn near pointless because she got so completely used to it that she almost never makes a sound with it if she doesn't want to
holy fuck, shrink that down, you could've just posted a small section of goatse's asshole from what i can tell
We had someone call the cafe last week and ask if we could take in a couple kittens, because she was moving and her new place wouldn't allow them. I've never been one to say no to a cat in need, and so we took them in while we try to find them new homes. Adorable little buggers, and ready to adopt if you're in Korea and want a furry pal! But only the 2 babies, you can't have any of my bigger fluff monsters ^^;
