Yup, both are corgis. Henry on the right is a pembroke (~1.5 years old), Luke on the left is a cardigan (~4 months old).

Luke's ears are kind of ridiculous looking at the moment lol, he looks like a cartoon character or something. XD

What a nightmare.

I just got done with a very complicated 24+ hours. I guess most owners won't go through this ordeal but I thought I'd offer my ordeal with this.

Oreo's never used flea meds before, seeing as how he'd never gotten fleas. Well the time finally came, and off my mom and I went to buy meds. We weren't really looking to burn 70 bucks on Advantix, so we bought this mid-line topical treatment instead. It was called SentryPro XFC or something like that. We bought it, and promptly forgot about it. Fast forward a month later (yesterday), and I give Oreo a bath since he was long overdue for one. I figure now is the perfect time after the bath to put on his meds. Read the directions, double checked for right weight class, and applied the medication.

I went to sleep, but he didn't. Within 2 hours he was panting heavily, drooling excessively (he never drools), kept scratching his neck, and twitching. The sad part was that every single damn time he tried to rest, he'd jump up suddenly, as if being bit by a bug and struggled so hard to find some relief. I went to my PC and looked up his symptoms and quickly deducted it was the flea meds. I promptly put him back in the bath, at midnight, feverishly trying to clean that fucking cheap ass shit off his skin, I mean, come on, he's my baby.

I felt horrible. He soon quit panting and drooling, but the twitches would not stop. He couldn't sleep. The only relief was rubbing his neck. I stayed up all night until 5 am rubbing his back, affording him some rest. I felt like shit. How could I skimp out like that? I should have done the research first. Looking online, there are YEARS worth of complaints (http://journal.drfaulken.com/problem...ck-medication/) with the same symptoms about the product and Sentry and their distributors (Petco, Petsmart, blablabla) doing dick all about it or blaming the customer for misuse. I managed to trace down the exact ingredient that was causing the twitching (cyphenothrin) and looked up the compound on the EPA website. One trip to walgreens for vitamin E oil later, his back is coated with the stuff.

Oreo's gonna be ok, I managed to initially scrub it off with 3 baths within 4 hours of putting on the meds, but any longer and his symptoms would have been worse. He's finally able to sleep, but this has been a stupid long day. Don't risk using this shit. It's poison.

I use Bayer Advantage on my dog/cat. It is cheaper than Advantix(usually) and works great. I always put it on my cat when he's asleep and he never knows it is there. I was tempted to buy some cheap crap too but it really isn't a good idea.

Kytele, first rule of topical flea meds is that you can't put them on within 72 hours of a bath. Not sure why, just what I was taught by my vet. That itself wouldn't cause that behavior, but what you saw isn't uncommon. A lot of dog have bad reactions to topical chemical medications. My dog used to use Frontline Plus but it lost it's effect in only a year so now we're switching to a pill called Comfortis, supposed to be a lot more safe too.

All anti-flea medicine is poison. Which is why the right weight class is important. It's dosed out so it won't be lethal to your pet based on size.

That's not to say the poison doesn't work, cause it does, but don't kid yourself that any of the major anti-flea medicines aren't poison.

Petco is having an internet sale on Frontline Plus at the moment, $13 off, (and the rest of the Advantix line) so I'd check that out. If you need it now, buy it at the store to see if they price match. if they don't, order online and return using the more expensive receipt.

Same thing happened to my cat a couple of years ago. I took her to the vet and they had to inject some weird fluid stuff in her to make her better. I paid $90 for the treatment, $12 for the flea meds. I guess being cheap comes with a price, lol. I was just glad she was okay =(.. though it was a bit hilarious seeing her try to jump onto things without being used to weighing 10 lbs heavier until the fluid got absorbed.

I suspect they're strengthening flea medicines to kill the fleas that are growing immunities to it while neglecting the fact that the meds are just becoming more toxic to the actual animals they're intended for.

www.drsfostersmith.com usually has the lowest price on Frontline Plus that I've found.

I don't use K9 Advantix because I have a cat, and while the chance of transfer is low, I'd rather not risk it.

Never tried Advantage because it doesn't kill ticks.

Sorry to hear of what happened to your puppers, glad he's okay though.
