Suikoden 2.
Suikoden 2.
Noticing a big lack of multiplayer games. I'm not a huge multiplayer game fan, I just thought it was kind of interesting.
Ugh. Have a big urge to play some Civilization for some reason.
My recommendation, Xbox marketplace some Bionic Commando: Rearmed, or Uno. I like Uno because one game is only like 5 minutes and I don't feel the need to play for an hour to get anything out of it.
I'd love to recommend the entire series to everyone I know but I don't because of the heavy dialogue. I tried getting some friends into it but they'd always skip the cutscenes and codec calls, after a while I didn't see any point.
Anyway I would strongly recommend MGS1-4 to anyone who doesn't mind lengthy cutscenes and dialogue and is looking for that "something more" in videogames.
Ugh. I don't understand people who do this. Is it really that painful to watch a cutscene? A couple of my friends are the same way. I'll share something with them, and they'll bypass every cinematic. It frustrates me because it's the equivalent to someone talking throughout a movie, or constantly getting up during a TV show. How can you possibly chat with them about it afterward?
One of my co-workers does that as well, and he argues that a game is there to be played, not to be watched. I understand that, but some titles have mediocre gameplay elements, and their story helps to round out their package. "Skies of Arcadia" is a pretty good example of this. Its on-foot battle system is mediocre, but the tale it tells is quite enjoyable. Without that, all you really have are the environments and the PDS-holdover ship battles.
ps3
uncharted (liked this game so much I got platinum trophy for this)
mgs4 (need to go back and unlocked all of the thingies, so my BB run. if i had a better connection, i'd play MGO more)

zelda - reminds me alot like oot, straight-forward zelda game.
super mario galaxy - had alot of fun getting every star. was a really fun game.
metriod prime 3 - loved the music. loved finding all of the secrets. i played the hell out of this game.
zack and wiki - had a good time with my wife trying to solve every level
mario kart - fun. spent more time online than in 1 player mode. a nice way to connect with my brother who lives 1500 miles away.
I can't help it. The fighting IS repetitive in Yakuza 1 & 2. But the stories in both are phenomenal imo. I will say there are more side quests in Yakuza 2 by far. I'm just hoping that if they do release another Yakuza game it's on X-Box as well as PS3. Because to me it's a series that I would probably buy a PS3 for in order to play it and I don't feel like dropping down that much money for one game.
Yakuza 3 is in the works already. Wiki says PS3 exclusive with Japan release in late Feb.
And yeah the fighting is repetitive, but it actually feels like you're doing damage so it makes up for it. How many other games let you slam a guys head into a car and then knee his face into the door?
Honestly everone should play godhand, it was a cheaply developed game, but god damn is it addictive, I bet Ive played through it at least 20-30 times. Best 30 bucks ive spent.
shining force II
Vagrant Story, Chrono Trigger, uhhh.... SMW2: Yoshi's Island.
Fucking PS3 exclusiveI'm seriously waiting for that Sega compilation on the 360 to be released just so I can play Shining Force 1 and 2 again. I've stopped and looked at Godhand multiple times, but I have never picked it up. I may need to snag it soon since you guys all rave about it so much.
I agree on the whole damage aspect of Yakuza. Especially with upgrading your Heat meter, it just gets sickeningly fun. I will go through a fight and knock down all the Yakuza and curb stomp them just because it's vicious.
They are a couple of the special attacks that really are just brutal. Slamming their face into the wall then kneeing them in the neck back into the wall is just plain ouch.
I agree with a lot of the already mentioned so I won't repeat those, but I would like to add in some I didn't notice.
Psychonauts
Jet Grind Radio
Jak & Daxter
Shenmue
Phoenix Wright (Pretty Much All)
Legends of Legaia 1 & 2
Zombie's Ate my Neighbors (SNES ftw)
Super Metroid 1,2,3 (Corruption on the Wii is a blast)
Mutant League Football (GoGo Oldschool EA)
I'm sure I'll have more pop into my head later on. >_>;
Don't forget Mutant League Hockey!
To clarify; There is no Legend of Legaia 2.
The follow-up game is called Legaia 2: Duel Saga and it does not appear to be a direct sequel to Legend of Legaia from what I heard (which is part of the reason I never played the game).
yea, it's not a direct sequel but it's more/less same name so I grouped it in there. I think I got it cheap at a VG Exchange Store, it's worth a play through if you haven't yet. You could prob get a copy for $5.
edit: yea I got it for $5, i checked the receipt in the box.
edit#2: lol, I was flipping through PS2 games on my shelf and found Teen Titans. It's a semi fun game to burn through >_> i don't remember how I acquired it though...seriously don't >_> It reminds me of Gauntlet Legends, man thats worth adding, the majority of the Gauntlet games.
Oh, I forgot to add Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne to my list. I haven't even finished it yet but it's already in my top 5 games of all-time. It's definitely the type of game that will appeal to a very specific set of people, but if you like long complex dungeons, lots of difficult battles, and take pride in arranging your party just right to overcome seemingly unsurmountable challenges, it's probably for you. The story is excellent, although it's given out in small bits and pieces, and it's very bleak and lonely - I like that though.
I can't get to it. Granted, I played it after Persona 3, but I just can't seem to enjoy the game at all. I'm probably a few hours in, down to where the world is after that incident, and there's nothing to do. The game just basically tells you to get out there, but I have no idea where to go. Every area I get to seems to be empty, yet full of enemies. I just got bored of fighting after a while and haven't tried it since.
It's very slow story-wise. It's a game where you really have to put yourself in the shoes of the main character and just explore the world for what it is. It's definitely not the type of game where you can ask yourself, "Hmm, where am I supposed to go next?" because nine times out of ten you won't be able to figure it out. I can see where the combination of exploratory gameplay and an extremely high encounter rate is frustrating, but I got sucked in and I'm totally loving it. And if you pay very close attention to all the different people you can talk to, you'll usually know exactly where you're supposed to go next after a while, the game gives out hints like mad - it just doesn't tell you exactly where to go most of the time.
It's definitely not for everyone, but I love it.
For those of you on the fence about God Hand, here's a link to what it likely the best review courtesy of BBC Scotland's Videogaiden.

Rab's got a solid Glaswegian accent, so just re-watch if you don't get anything the first time.
EDIT:
What is with Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne? I bought it way back and was never able to get into it, got totally cock-blocked by some bullfighter boss or some shit and could not get past him...might have to give it another go.
Matador, a lot of people get stuck on him. He requires more preparation than most bosses, but if you make a couple of demons that null or drain Force and equip the magatama that resists physical attacks, you should be alright. As with most boss fights, you should have at least one demon with an all-party healing spell before you take him on. Let me know if you do pick it up again, there are a few very specific tips to beating him.
Oh, and the one skill above all that kills bosses in Nocturne: Dark Might, which gives you a guaranteed critical attack during a New Kagatsuchi. All you have to do is make sure you're at New Kagatsuchi when you run into a boss and all your demons with this skill will be doing critical attacks 100% of the time. I stopped doing this because it was too easy, even on Hard mode.
