I'm really tired of the disposable razor routine and am looking for some advice on a better way to go. I'm not very informed on this issue, but I'm sure some people here are. I've heard that there are non disposable razors you can buy that work much better. Any personal recommendations on what to get and where to get it from would be well received.

I got a fairly nice electric razor for Christmas, it's called the Philips Norelco. It gets the job done but I'm looking to buy a newer one because it's about a year old now.

I bought a Gillette Mach 3 Turbo thingy w/ 3 replacement blade thingies. It VIBRATES! O_O

Yeah, I saw that thread a bit back. I couldn't seem to find enough information on the non disposable razors, it seemed more like a thread where people were talking about their shaving methods (which is still helpful).

I'm somewhat reluctant to use an electric razor, I'm looking for something more simple I guess.

Everyone I know who owns an electric razor swears by it. I just can't be arsed to keep that many things plugged into the wall socket of my bathroom. I already have a nightlight and clockradio in there.

I swear by my DE (Double-Edged) and straight razor collection.

Badger & Blade is pretty much a bible of information, discussion, and has a decent marketplace.

Gillette Sensor Excel is really good. Shave in the shower, the point is to let the warm water soften the facial hair.

It just depends on how you take care of the stuff.

Ive always used electric trimmer to get down to a short stuble length in the areas I dont want hair, and then use a normal 3 blade razor to take it off.

The electric trimmer and 3 blade razor I have been using for 10 years now, but just recently bought a new trimmer kit. My old 10yo razor still works fine, why not just take care of it and use it forever? Ive only used an electric razor way back when, so it was a bit clunky, and im sure theyve changed for the better by now.

Electric razors suck if you can grow any sort of real beard. This is what I use:

Safety Razors & Blades

Uses stainless steel blades. It's basically like an old straight-edge (think Sweeney Todd) razor, except it's designed to be held perpendicular to your face, not slice you open, and has two edges (this should be similar to what Ghost_Wheel posted above).

Read the tips/directions if you get one. The biggest hint- DON'T PRESS IT AGAINST YOUR SKIN. It will glide along your face and remove the hair with next to 0 pressure. Get this razor (or one like it), shave after/during a shower, and you will never have razor burn again.

There are some cheaper, non-disposable razors on the site as well if that model is too steep. It's the price of a 'good' electric razor, except it will last your entire lifetime, the consumables are cheep as hell, and you'll get a much closer/less irritable shave.

Plus, if a chick sees that sitting in your bathroom or watches you shave in the morning, she's going to be more impressed than you busting out an electric or a disposable bic. It's classy and sophisticated in a non-cheesy way and no other type of razor can say that


Ps. Don't use this on your balls, since that seems to be a major concern in this thread. If you need to shave your junk, keep using a disposable (a SEPARATE one, preferably) or look up the "Philips Bodygroom." They even have a funny video or two :D
