Ended up 9 manning it. To be honest I really can't see how this would be 6 manned unless you were absolutely crazily geared. We got the job done but with 3 less healers I can simply not see us winning. Just had a death at literally 1% but thats it.

Turning away when mp is low or when you're taking too much damage is the key when you're having trouble (it's true for any melee burnable HNM). When heads are down, it won't tp regen, regen, and it attack kinda slowly. You can hold it indefinitively this way. There is no risk of regrowing an head either since it's a TP move.
The only challenge come from Nerves Gas, but again, if you turn back, it shouldn't be an issue (healer still need to be on their toes)

6 man wasnt hard, but yeah we were all rather "crazily geared" for the time.
I did it way back on war when my gear wasnt so hot, but everyone has to be on the ball about shadows/sharing hate.

Don't necessarily have to be "crazily geared" to do it. Almost did it a while back, the only "crazy gear" we had was a ghorn (which obviously helps, but as everyone else has said, if you turn around at the proper times, MP isn't an issue.) Only reason we lost is we popped the Holy Waters before putting shadows back up, and one or two of us died in the 3 seconds after Nerve Gas.
My melee gear at the time (on WAR) was about average, maybe slightly above, and the other melee (2 NIN and a SAM, running in and out) were on par with me.
Don't need to be crazily geared at all, its been done with 3 Nin/wars plenty of times with no really special HQ gear, just a standard 20% haste set and good WS set. Mages shouldn't have any mp issues if your DDs don't suck at getting/keep shadows up.
The only challenge is finishing off its last 25% because it can consistently use physical shield as soon as it drops for 3 minutes and it will have regened 20% hp. If it uses nerve gas just turn around until everyone is cured back up and I can't see a problem there.
