Every FF since 7 seems to either be cyber-punk or swords/dragons-fantasy - sometimes a combination of both. Not sure if there's been a steam-punk FF yet (I can't remember much about 9).

After a certain point, I think it's difficult to come up with new motif. I guess that's why Persona is unique?

I always liked Xenogears since it had a very epic feeling to it: lots of religious stuff and sci-fi thrown in, the Star Wars influence, giant robots, reincarnation, pixelated sex scene, etc. I didn't think there was any specific theme it focused on, rather a lot of different things.

With FF there seems to be a central 'theme'? Like 10, it was religion w/ Sin and the afterlife maybe?

XIII is the same sort of star wars-ish futuristic high fantasy that XII was, versus XIII is modern/current day + fantasy (i.e. like persona usually is, except with a more serious tone & in bigger cities)
