I chose Woodworking because Worldx had WW100, and he was the richest motherfucker ever (~5 years ago).

I took Woodworking to 100 for a couple of reasons. First was that I started out with a mage job, and what better than to make your own staves? So far, I have HQ'ed 2 light staves and a fire staff.... not very fun ; ;. After awhile, I started leveling my sub crafts of course to get a feel on what I wanted to do after that cause I finally came to the conclusion that I will not make money on Woodworking, and wanted to help my friends out.
Currently decided on Bonecraft due to my LS mates are DDs (RNGs, THFs,SAMs,NINs)
I know now I will make no money from crafting , talking in terms of the money in 2004-2005 mind you. I craft now for fun and to help my friends out now....and have more fun doing that than I did for money. <3 crafting
Goldsmithing. Because it makes what you leveled look like WoW.
Cooking.
I started it because I wanted to do a craft, and it was the cheapest. Its a craft you can take straight to 100 with minimal loss, if any at all. Only part that really stands out for losing gil was doing sweet rice cakes, I still cant believe how cheap they sell for, boggles my mind...
Its decent for gil too, you'll never make something that'll make you shout 'OMG OMG' but its a steady profit, especially if you craft everyday. Plus you can save some gil as well by making your own food, which is always a plus.
Bonecraft
1. It was fairly easy to farm materials.
2. When I leveled it, no one i knew really had any crafts leveled and I wanted a signed SH.
3. Thought it would be fun.
4. I must also secretly like blowing up expensive items and watching people's reactions as they lose 500k on one item in a matter of 3 seconds.
Made myself a good living with crafting, but i don't do it nearly so much anymore since I'm tired of pissing away gil on my terrible luck. I craft when friends need/want stuff or want to trade me for something signed.
Goldsmithing - I couldn't afford to just piss away the money for a silver hairpin (I believe is the quest) once I finally walked to Bastok, so I leveled goldsmithing high enough to make my own and turn it in and summarily decided I'd level gold to 100, which I did, bloodily, over 3 or so years >.>
Goldsmithing, but think I'm going to retire it and take Bone/Leather up on my mules since GS costs an arm, leg, and my eternal soul and I still won't get to 100 D:
100 Cooking... 60 alch, 60 leather, 60 cc, soon to be 60 Smithing.... Why 100 Cooking? Seriously, look at the mods on the guild armor and tell me it doesnt make you laugh. O yeah and I leveled it before the RMTs started spamming it (ie before the great inflation spike of years past) so there was some profit at one point.
Resist Poison Ftw
Leathercraft.
1. At that point in time, no one had Leathercraft within the linkshell, so I gathered it'll be good if I can sign Dusk Gloves and Sniper's Ring for my linkshell friends.
2. Leathercraft, during the time of inflation, was still one of the cheapest crafts to level to 100.
3. I loved skinning them animals. :D
Bonecraft
It was easy, I liked the endgame gear it offered, and I leveled it for myself, not to make profit. Although, I regret taking it to 100 on my main account and not a mule.
Main: Goldsmithing, because its a real challenge and not many people have it. To get it to 100+3 is an accomplishment to me. It is at 58+1 at the moment, because gold hairpins are frustrating.
Alt: Alchemy, because my friend had already started it, and i wanted to finish it to make my w.abjs +1 some day. It is 91+1 at the moment.
I'd have to agree with this. I have CC 100 and all my subs at 60 (minus fishing+cooking) and I find it harder and harder to find profits with this craft. On seraph there's people like Relentless who undercut field tunics by 50% and people like Lurch who see that rainbow cloth stacks should be going for 270k+ (due to rainbow thread stacks being 90-95k) but would rather bone everyone over and sell em for 200k, with their only reply being "i dont care". So yeah...ranting aside....if you want to level crafting do it because you enjoy it or would like to farm/synth your own consumables (ammo/ninja tools/food etc). But don't rely on it as your main source of income. Granted you may find an item that's really highly priced atm...but it wont stay that way for long before some other jackhole(s) gets greedy and drives the price down to make a quick buck.
Was originally planning on doing goldsmithing, mostly for the same reason mentioned earlier. I was leveling on worms in Ronfaure and started turning flint stones in to arrowheads, which was goldsmithing. I was like "cool". I ended up powering it to 58 and had to stop cause I went broke. I took alchemy to 60 to see what it was like and ultimately stopped for a long time.
Wanting a new way to make money, I decided to go with something that I could easily farm or buy from AH for a reasonably cheap price. Ultimately, I started working on bonecraft, and fully farmed from 0-70, with some more sessions in between, but I bought a lot after that because NPCing the stuff was break-even or minimal loss (like, less than 1k a synth).
That said, I hit 100 and slightly regret it, but not much I can do. I really wanted to say I had SOMETHING at 100. I've made money off of it though.... Will probably end up using a lot of it to fund another craft to 100 in the future.
So yeah.
I did Clothcraft and I have to say it was a complete waste of time/gil. I don't even play jobs that remotely benefit from it anymore. If i had to do it again, I would have spent the time farming instead and enjoyed my gil a little more.
Any frickin smithers here?!
Woodworking -
I'm a mage & I wanted to make my own staves. My mom was avid about fishing & I wanted to be able to fix her broken fishing gear.
Also it's good with consumables for steady income (most of the time).
Started leveling BC on my windy mule. Have him at 53 atm. For the most of the time, broke even up till now.
Edit: 1k posts get!
Originally leveled Bonecraft cuz i started in Windurst, took it to 60+1. Then i gave up. Was leveling it also because my first job that was going to 75 was BLM, and i wanted to sign that expensive body... yea..... igqira weskit lol.
Then, i wake up to live and decided to level all crafts to 20 for some odd reason.
Chose Smithing to take it to 100. Currently at 99+3 with Moglification Smithing, and im not going to bother too much about getting it to 100 yet.
Im happy with it. Made alot of money leveling it, some level are trully a pain in the ass to get done with, but overrall i did a path to get either break even or pure profit.
Mad because people are doing Nuevo's with the same stats as NQ haubs tho, but that's just =/
I like crafting and i have ww, cloth, bone and leather to 60, working on lolalchemy and gold (55.something) now
Signed a few things for myself already, like Onyx Cuisses and a few haubs+1
