DVD burning/reading issues with PC drive?

I have the following DVD Drive. "Optiarc DVD+-RW AD-5170S".

I can burn DVD+RW discs perfectly fine. But I can't read from that disc when I insert it in the PC. When inserted into the PC it shows as a "CD-ROM Disc" and when opened shows no files.

The drive clearly shows its both compatible with "+" and "-" formats. But won't read from "+" discs. Anyone have an idea whats going on? Its really inconvenient to always have to use my fiancee's PC just to access the files on the discs I burn =/.

    Thanks

edit: The only information online I can find is that its faulty hardware. But this drive is literally brand new, and can read/write any format perfectly fine >.>

Its being new doesn't disqualify it from being defective. If you can get a replacement under warranty, may as well go for it.

You could go through a million things -- flashing your BIOS, changing cables, reinstalling your chipset drivers, and so on, so forth -- but in a case like this, it's almost always the drive. Just replace it if possible.

Are you not able to replace it under warranty? If so, we can try other troubleshooting methods anyway. Didn't want to make it sound as if I wouldn't help you.

Wow coincidentally I am under the same situation. It worked when I first got it then I burned a shit load of things. I figured I ruined it myself after burning things. Lasted about a month

It isn't altogether uncommon, and there are a lot of makes and models where this pops up frequently -- it's possible they use the same internals. Usually, these drives will wind up writing for the entirety of their expected lifespan, but will stop reading really early on.

Well its with a chinese company, and in order to do RMA replacements, it needs to be sent overseas, etc. So yeah, I've had bad issues arise in the past with overseas RMA so I won't go down that route again. I'm best off with just buying a new burner and taking another chance I guess lol.

From what I've read, using the "Over-burn" feature on a DVD-RW/CD-RW drive/etc. can cause it to have a very short lifespan. Even on "Over-burn" compatible drives?

I for one have been using it alot since I've received this drive. Mainly because I burn alot of games. So this might be the culprit I suppose in my case.
