"Requiem of Sin" - Corsair Solo

Since almost maxing out my QD dmg on COR through gear, I have solo'd many of the ZNM's including Lil'Apkulla, Brass Borer, and Ananataboga easily and well within their respective rage timers. This has given me newfound desire to see what else I can do with COR to gain the gear that I have wanted for a long time. The problem with X's Knife BCNM is that it is hard as hell to get people to come with you every single week for an hour to potentially get absolutely nothing AND maybe lose experience at the same time. Add to that that I am a somewhat casual player and therefore do most things solo or through pickup groups. What I am wondering is if there are any other COR out there who have thought of or tried to solo this BCNM fight. This is my current QD set for Earth Shot [my primary form of QD damage]:

    Terra's Staff/Earth Grip
    Coffinmaker/Steel Bullet
    Cor. Tricorne
    Ugg. Pendant
    Moldy Earring
    Drone Earring
    Denali Jacket
    Sand Gloves
    Jaz/Raja's Ring
    Anemet Mantle+1
    Dorin Obi
    Denali Kecks
    Skadi's Jambeaux

With this QD set, I have maxed out at around 360ish damage solo with Wizard's on Earthsday. So with MAB+44 by going /BLM to the BCNM on Earthsday, I estimate that it could go up to around 450 dmg per QD if not resisted. However, in my COR + BLM x2 trio runs, I have noticed a few problems that may arise with the COR solo attempt. Firstly, is the lack of shadows for the initial pull by being /blm instead of /nin. I believe that I can survive long enough to let movement speed get ahead of them and kite effectively even if I get hit a few times during the fight. I usually use Dancer's roll for regen during the fight for any damage received anyway. And, of course, I have equipment change macros to blink all my Rolls/Quick Draw's/Random Deals, so that goes w/o saying.

For the fight, each of the Mithra have 4K hps and the pets have 2k hps, so that's 16K worth of dmg I need to be able to do in less than 30 minutes. With max QD merits, Random Deal x3, and Wild Card, going/blm on Earthsday, I believe I can do 40 Earth Shot's for a maximum of 18K damage. The biggest obstacle to the COR QD solo I believe to be is killing Z's Wyvern fast enough so that it doesn't start using Healing Breath III on itself for 900hps a pop. So the killing order must be : Z's Wyvern --> Z --> Y --> X -->X's Rabbit.

What do you guys think about this? I have thought it over somewhat thoroughly but it is always good to get some feedback from players more experienced with this BCNM fight than I am. I would try this right now but my BLM is lvl 5 at the moment and most likely I will have it up to 37 by the end of the year, so I can try this strat out.

Very creative idea, but there is a massive issue that strikes me right off the bat; Pathing. While kiting anything around the large boulder in this battlefield isn't difficult at all, movement speed or no movement speed, your targets in particular will make this a challenge. Casting spells and occasionally stopping to attempt to use a weapon skill on you is going to throw the distance between you and the five mobs off completely at times, which will cause some of them to keep on trucking, and some of them to turn around and start running the opposite direction. Due to this, you really need some means to survive for short periods of time to realign the route of the trackers and their pets.

If you can find a way to get around that little obstacle, you seem like you're good to go. Though, I really wouldn't be concerned with damage, as I have absolutely no issues finishing in 13-14 minutes on RDM, which includes a full-wipe at the beginning.

True enough, I did notice once in the fight when only X and her rabbit were left that she started to cast some Ichi spell when I rounded the rock but the bunny keep trucking. And then on my way back around X came at me head on, which was very irritating. Problem is that attempting to cast anything on myself while the bunny and mithra are behind me = death. COR has shit defense and no evasion, so they would pummel me to death in 10secs, before I could put enough distance between them and myself again. I have little time before my blm is subjob level, so I'll continue to research this further.

    Couple of things:

If you die, you need the DRG pet dead because it doesn't follow back to starting point and does aggro (and subsequently links). It's also the only mob that can cure obviously.

X is very annoying because it spams Shadowstitch, which binds you. So be very careful if you plan on kiting without immediately killing X.

Personally, I think COR soloing is a very unique form of solo, but the issue is just you can't output enough damage to pull a lot of the harder things off - things with short time limits and ganks. You have to be able to quickly kill off at least 1 mithra or you just can't kite successfully. I just don't see how you can do that considering the most damage you can deal 'instantly' is 8 QDs in a row via 2 > RD > 2 > WC > 2 > RD >2. Under your gear that's 3200 damage tops if you're being generous. That can't even kill 1 mithra.

SE walks a very dangerous line any time they give COR a QD boost, MAB, or something that increases bullet/gun damage because if they up QD damage much further, it becomes increasingly broken in these types of solos.

While I personally don't see this solo working, there are a lot of good COR solo targets. For instance, I'm pretty sure you could solo the Diabolos avatar quest BC with good meds and double ice weather + ice day. COR really excels most in those 1v1 fights.

If I recall correctly, with a V Wizard's on /BLM and job bonus with corsair's+1/steel/HQstaff and novio/moldy/ugg/denali kecks, you'll hit 433 on an unresisted shot, and... 474 with single DWB proc, I believe? With fully merited QD recast that'd put you at 17k max damage, plus the 5k or so from wild card and RDs. Your damage is going to be a good amount lower than that due to gear differences and lack of a constant job bonus, and there are also chances of resist (although I haven't personally tried your method in this BC, so I don't have much to say in terms of resist rates). There is also human error to factor in; you can't necessarily guarantee you'll be at an opportune moment to QD when the timer is up.

The theory has potential, but if you're looking to do 16k in 30 minutes with what you have, I think you may fall slightly short unless everything happens to fall in your favor. Earth weather might make it possible, but I've never paid attention to Boneyard Gully, honestly, so I don't know if earth weather can occur there.

Also, as a word of constructive criticism, please drop the rings and amemet+1. They do nothing for your QD, and AGI+4 rings and a nomad's are an easy buy.

Don't forget to get the FoV regen effect. Sorry, wish I had something more useful to add. GL.

This. And that isn't even accounting for other gear that is considered 'best-in-slot' (Novio, et al), so you have a ways to go. Even the 4AGI (Emerald) and 1AGI (Nomad NQ) have MAJOR upgrades in Breeze and Commander's, respectively. Also, get a COR's Gun, as even the NQ is superior to Coffinmaker for QD damage output.

Best of luck to you in your process.

Could you make/post a vid or two of some of your ZNM solos?

Yeah, I was just bringing up some easy fixes. I don't expect the best in every slot, but it's not hard to find AGI.
