tanking skill n survivability aside... they are just too damn short to trick off of. twice as bad for those who leave target locked on on a mob thats taller than a dhamel.
esp. when they fidget from left to right >o
There are some Linkshells / PLDs who are just stuck in the PLD/WAR era i guess. Im sure they have tried PLD/NIN before and it didn't work for them because they were geared for PLD/WAR and they wont try it again. Let them know some gear choices or have a experienced PLD/NIN co-tank with them and then you can show them whats good![]()
It's not about it happening often it's about it happening at all.
When you bring two tanks to an event and one goes down, it makes everyone's job harder for 5+ minutes.
A Non-taru tank is nothing but a free +1. +1s in themselves don't mean shit, but when you stack them they help. A tank doesn't need an Ares's body to be good but if you have skill and gear/support to back it up it makes for a great piece of gear. The extra HP of other races just makes things easier. Not just for the tank but for the support as well.

Exactly.
Taru tanks aren't LQ. They are NQ. Other races are the HQ.
We have typically three WHMs, two up and one down.
I suppose it's not so much getting one shot as two triple attacks and a claw cyclone right in a row, which makes it seem really fast. As for replacing them, then we'd have zero tanks. I believe the only PLD in my group that would PLD/NIN is me, and I hate coming on PLD.
Don't have any experienced PLD/NINs that can show up on a consistant basis. And I know the Galka PLD is pretty stuck in the PLD/WAR mindset. "I insist I get to try everything at least once as /WAR, I want to prove that PLD/WAR can tank everything."
Yeah, we're going to die when we finish Sky and go to the next event. D=
Eh, I'll give ya that with the HP differences.
The biggest effect the HP makes that I can think of for /Nin, is hate holding... since Kaeko's testing showed the whole higher hp/lower loss relationship.
That's an illusion. If someone were able to tank with 500 HP with the same survival rate as a PLD with 2K HP, then they are equals. HP is not the measure of success... survival rate is. Survival should never be in question because of the lack of 200 HP. If support thinks they can relax because there's a galka tanking instead of a taru, they are lulling themselves into a false sense of security that will probably kill the tank more often than if they were paying attention to a taru tank.
The only real valid argument against tarus is they bleed more CE per hit because it does a slightly larger percentage of their total HP. Dying because of the racial difference is BS.
As much as I hate to support a Redskins fan, I can vouche for Judai. He's an excellent tank. (Wow, even tho we've squashed all the stuff between us over the years, it still seems weird as hell to say that. I thought I'd never see the day I'd be praising Judai...) But yea, gotta give props where it's due. The guy knows his shit and plays PLD very well.
@Achika
It's not really a matter of having an experienced PLD/NIN teach someone how to tank, although that helps.
A couple years ago myself and a friend realized that PLD/WAR was a pain in the ass to support and had read about the basics of PLD/NIN, so we got us some Haste gear, showed up PLD/NIN despite the LS leader being against it, and tanked.
It's honestly not that hard to learn on Sky Gods, as long as the PLD in question understands the basic concept. (Keep shadows up, spam Flash).
I would really recommend that your tanks stop being so stubborn, it's really hurting your LS in effectiveness and efficiency. If they don't know how to do PLD/NIN, there are a ton of resources on Wikipedia and even Allakhazam, and they can practice on Genbu since anyone can kite him if they die.
I love my NIN, I tank with 1337 HP in my idle set(BQR/Cassie + Pescatora) and it's really more than enough for pretty much anything, I haven't tried Ultima since the Limbus shell I run farms Omega.

I'd say the 200 hp difference will do more for you than the 2 mp/1 mdb from a Lamian Kaman +1. You're right to say that skill > gear/race but you're wrong to bluntly say 200 hp does nothing for you. More important than any in-game item is understanding your limitations.
You can't tank Tiamat and Omega at the same time, so there.
