What kinda of crazy crap response is this? The only limitation tanks have in this game is that there is a hate cap. BLMs can over nuke, WHM can take hate, melee can do too much dmg and take hate, Tanks can cure too much and keep hate on them letting everyone else do more damage and kill it faster..........wait a sec.....

You are talking about HP and leaving off the HQ stats of Tarus, like MP. I typically have 1-400 more MP then other tanks. That gives me an extra 1-5 C4s. Which is more HP then your 200 HP Bonus.

The fact is, if you are getting your face trucked so much that you NEED 1600-1800 HP, you are doing something wrong. Yes, the extra HP is nice but it means nothing in 90% of circumstances.

When you bring two tanks to an event and one goes down, it makes everyone's job harder for 5+ minutes.
A Non-taru tank is nothing but a free +1. +1s in themselves don't mean shit, but when you stack them they help. A tank doesn't need an Ares's body to be good but if you have skill and gear/support to back it up it makes for a great piece of gear. The extra HP of other races just makes things easier. Not just for the tank but for the support as well
You are trying to say Taru tanks die a ton or soemthing? Tarus make everyone's job harder because they die more? This is stupid as fuck. Typically I'm the tank who DOESN'T die and I end up solo tanking things while the ally and other tank recovers. I have solo tanked plenty of things after my Hume/Elv/Galka co-tank has died.(Gulool JaJa, Ultima, Omega, Tiamat, Khim, Cerberus, etcetc)

As I said before, I usually have the same, if not more HP then my (Hume/Mithra/Elv) co-tanks and on top of that, an extra 1-300 more mp to play with. If your tank is using 1700+HP fulltime they are doing something wrong and not using proper gear.

Only things that 1 shots my on RDM/NIN in Khim with a bad timed Tourbillion or a bad timed Terror with no shadows and a double attack or something. My thinking though is that most of these things can kill any tank.

Do you think PLD is a lot easier to tank as a Taru over RDM?
I've never really tanked anything as RDM since I have PLD and NIN tbh. I've always kinda wanted to but never had the chance really. I'm sure if you have experience tanking on RDM, you will love tanking on PLD. It is a alot of fun imo. Even more so due to the fact that we ARE so small and so "fragile" in peoples minds. You have entire allies of rival LSes waiting for Tiamat to wtfpwn your face and wipe the ally, and it never happens.

Tanking is about skill and support, Race has nothing to do with it but style.

I really enjoy PLD, mostly for the Shield and JAs, but I will say this: going from a RDM/NIN tank to PLD/NIN was actually incredibly frustrating. Casting times are nearly doubled on PLD, recast timers are higher as I have a solid Haste set on RDM but no Homam for PLD yet, and not having Stoneskin up makes me antsy just because I'm used to it. Shield, Sentinel, and Atonement more than make up for it in terms of making the tanking experience enjoyable, but if you start as RDM it's kind of a hard adjustment IMO.

Well major reason i am asking is because my LS dosnt see RDM as a real tank So i never get to tank but i looooove tanking. My LS has a ton of amazing tanks so i doubt ill get to tank much anyways, but either way ill have it if needed i guess.

It's nice since you can actually share a pretty fair amount of gear between RDM and PLD tanking, but it took awhile for me to get Tan to give RDM tanking a shot as well. Ramuh is a very PLD-centric server and RDM tanking was relatively new there on the whole. PLD is nice for certain things that strip shadows very quickly and hit pretty hard at the same time, Byakko scares the crap out of me on RDM because shadows will be gone as soon as they're cast many times, so I have to try and get into a physical- set before the inevitable Cyclone/TA comes. Tyger I can't imagine tanking on RDM either, but you never know.

I'd say if you really just want to tank, level all 3 options, that way regardless of what your LS considers a viable main tank you can accomodate, once you're established as a good tank you can open them up to other jobs.

While I think the mp issue should be noted, it's not what we were discussing.
200 mp does nothing for you when you're dead.
You've made it clear a number of times that you think you're a good tank.
    Noone cares.
You're arguments would be fine if all tanks were as skilled as you say you are. But you know they're not. HP gives you more wiggle room. You know this.
To argue that this wiggle room does nothing for you is wrong.
While you and other experienced tanks know that HP becomes less of an issue as you get better, it is of great importance while you are still learning.
I'll claim that my elv hp has saved my ass a number of times and you'll claim you're extra mp has done the same for you.

I personally always stack up on HP when I'm tanking something for the first time or solo tanking. This wiggle room helps me and my support out greatly.
Stop acting like a down-trodden taru tank and try to look at this objectively.

I know Elvaans and Galkas if they put some time into a MDB/Light-resistance can survive Citadel Buster; possibly even Humes too... but I just can't see a Taru being able to get the HP up to survive it, even if they only had 1HP left afterwards.

I'd love to be wrong though, so if you have stories otherwise please share.

It's not as hard as you think, maybe moreso for a NIN, but if you're hitting the 50% cap of magic damage reduction anything 1300+ should be fine. RDM is even easier with Stoneskin on top of a good amount of native MDB lumped in with the reduction set. I think I take something like 600~ damage not counting the Stoneskin 350 on RDM, though that's not with the double-weather proc I'm guessing.

I only take 750-850 on your average CB, with gear that a Taru can use, so they can easily survive CB. (Hell, I could survive 2 back to back without getting cured)

It's the hate reset that's the trouble, lol. Especially on RDM.

I have not died to CB in 6+ months. Full Magic Kit takes CB damage down below 1k dmg which is easily survivable. Only the random Double Light Bonus CB would possibly kill me but I'm pretty sure I set my kit up to survive it. Mostly MGC DMG%-, some MDB and HP in the other slots. I take about 600dmg usually I think, leaving 800 after.

I am looking at this objectively. How is your statement making Tarudins sound like they die every 10m, "objective"? Obviously, a new tank is going to die a bit more then an experienced one. I also said about 3-4x that I usually have more HP then any co-tank I tank with, be it Elv or Hume or Mithra. I tank in 1450HP, I can get up 1700HP if I wanted to waste spots on HP and used HP food.

btw, 200HP does nothing for you when you are dead as well.

Usually the only ones blaming my race are the /WAR galkas, elvaans stuck with Tav tacos.

Would I like to have Galka/Elvaan HP? Yeah.
Would I trade my MP pool for it? Not really.
I have played both Hume and Taru race on PLD, and my heart goes with taru~

Those extra Cure IVs really make it smoother, and I can't recall anything that was a mess enmity-wise/WHMs mp pool whoring, aside from a roaring wyrm (which shouldn't even happen in the first place >.>!)

It's all about experience... I have died a lot on my firsts Ixion, Khimaira, but by the third, I was able to solo tank them from 100% to 0%.

Edit : CB is easily survivable on taru. Can't remember last one killing me.
and I tank with 1600~1700 HP

Last Ultima I did CB was doing around 940 I think, something close to that. My base HP without any HP merits is 999 while naked so it's not really a threat.

Seriously though, some of the best PLDs I know on server and in LS are taru. It makes so little difference.

CB is harder for a NIN to survive than a PLD...

This build gives me a total of 1424 HP after food and I top myself off with hi-pots. Here's how it performs.

As others have said... surviving CB is trivial. It's regaining hate after it resets you that takes some planning.

i can see a dif in tnaking just with hume vs galka so i mean really a taru would be even harder to tank with. not to say they cant. i know a tar tank who is as good as any hume. but when you go a great geared hume or galka vs a great geared tar they have a little less hp and thats what it comes down to. they do not suck, they tank fine but that little bit of HP does help.

The only complaint any Taru PLD I have ever known has had is that sometimes they have to sacrifice a few gear slots to reach an acceptable HP level. So, you lose a ring slot, the back slot, and both of the earring slots. Not a huge deal really. With those slots you can approximately gain an additional 250 HP which is usually enough to put a Taru where they need to be to compete with the other races.

In a worst case situation, you either have to pick low HP, or reduced MP and Enmity+ gear as a Taru. Nothing game breaking really. Getting 8/8 HP merits reduces this problem even more.

I'm pretty sure every aspiring RDM-tank runs into this problem. My most recent linkshell's main tank was an Aegis-PLD, so you can imagine what it was like trying to change people's mindsets. Just don't take 'no' for an answer.

The fact of the matter is, I've been tanking for about three weeks now, and have yet to be outclassed by any Paladin on any target. I take less physical damage, I take less magical damage, and unless I take a 700-damage something-or-other, I have the attention of any and all targets for the entirety of fights.
