-Haste can be macroed in for flash and utsu, so no reason to give that up
-lol vit /nin, lol def /nin, and if you're bloodtanking a mob then it's easy enough that the couple lost vit and def don't matter anyway
-Good thing base HP means nothing, taru idle in more HP gear than other races do and macro in enmity for cures like they're supposed to. i can't think of any mobs in this game that routinely do more than a taru HP in damage but less than a hume's, where the damage can't be avoided by MDB gear or positioning.

i have tanked on both galka and taru nin. As taru i did fine and didnt die often, not anymore than i would have on galka. The real difference is how much focus you need as taru over galka. The room for error is smaller, but you should not be screwing up anyhow ;D

Obviously for nin its all about you -dmg sets and how well you can cast shadows.

i have taken taru pld almost to 70 and was thinking of doing galka before i quit. I have a friend who plays galka pld who i use to ask alot of questions from. I really think taru have it harder then other races. The added mp max doesnt really help at all. With all the refresh and new jas SE has put out its all about how fast your recovering mp.

taru has the hardest time on pld tanking, but it really doesnt matter because usually they are better tanks due to having to have less error room. This really conditions them through 75 lvs of training and learning that if they dont keep themselves alive they might just die ;D

all joking aside, if you have to work harder you are going to see better results. And fact is taru has to work harder then other races to do well endgame, thus usually making taru tank %age better then say galkas ;D

but yes 350 hp from say taru to galka does make a difference, thats a full hit, BUT learn to use /nin more effectively and there is no worries (as taru nin i would run around in 1750~hp to bug the co tanks for funnies, though macroed it off after spirits).

Just because you are a smart Taru pld, doesn't mean all taru pld do this.

I see what you did there.

For seriousness, though, taru PLDs can be just as great or just as sucky as other PLD races, it depends on the player. Idling in BQ ring and other HP gear will mean dick if you gearswap even just a little bit; a lot of good tanks will regardless, and you can't even use the blinking tank argument since you can get a lot of great HP out of non-blink slots.

The bottom line is this: Tarutaru have a base HP about 150 lower than a Hume, and about 350 lower than a Galka. Let's explore the ramifications of these differences.

Base Taru HP for a pld/nin with no gear on is approximately 1050. Let's say this Taru takes a hit for 105 damage. This works out to be 10% of his HP.

Now, let's take a Hume pld/nin. His HP will be approximately 1200. If he also takes a hit for 105 damage, it will be 8.75% of his hp, which is 12.5% less than a taru.

Now we will take a Galka pld/nin. His HP will be approximately 1400. If he now also takes a hit for 105 damage, it will be 7.5% of his hp, 14.3% less than a hume, and 25% less than a Taru.

As you can see, the hate degradation of a Taru is kind of large compared to other races when taking hits.

Using the same characters, it is FACT that the tarutaru has a better chance to be one-shotted or quickly killed before cures can be cast. This is simply because he has less HP to work with. If a Hume got hit for 1150 damage at once, he would survive, possibly long enough to get up Ni or to have the WHM finish casting a cure5. However, a taru would have been killed by this. Furthermore, a Galka has more survivability than both a hume or tarutaru.

On the topic of MP, the bonus taru get, in my OPINION, doesn't really matter much. Since the advent of Ethereal earring, Chivalry, Devotion, and all the mp/tic we get from ourselves and refresh/ballad, most pld would be hard-pressed to run out of MP. Often when I'm tanking pld/war in dynamis, I sit at 300mp max, and I don't ever really run out. On /nin, I'm usually at around 500mp max, and I would really have to be screwing up majorly to have to be curing enough to run out. (i'm a hume, btw)

NOW, knowing their obvious weakness, a smart player of a Tarutaru pld would gear himself to make up for it. Your average Taru pld probably wears much more +hp gear than a hume or galka would. Granted, they may have to sacrifice stats in other areas (such as haste or VIT) to cover their inherent flaw, but they will definitely still be able to tank the same things as other races, if not quite as easily.

FINALLY, the most important factor behind any PLD is the player controlling it. A highly skilled Taru pld player will outplay a noob Galka pld every time.

CONCLUSION: Yes, tarutaru have some deficiencies when it comes to playing Paladin. Given the same exact gear and player, a hume or galka will have more survivability than a tarutaru. However, these deficiencies can be negated through proper gear selection and player skill. In the end, the skill of the player vastly outweighs the race he selected.

The fact that your saying a Taru will need to sacrifice VIT to get more HP as /nin alone makes me ignore everything you have said above it. Anyone who gears ANY SLOT for VIT as /nin and not any other stat (haste, enmity, HP) should be shot.

I'm not saying VIT is a terribly important stat. In fact, as I was writing that, I almost typed lolVIT, but decided against it in favor of being more professional. The loss of possible haste, however, is not trivial, yet I would say with the advent of the new <stpt> and <stal> tags allowing for pld to gear swap without being yelled at by their support, this problem could be negated.

Your support should get blinkmenot or even better, make macros with the tank names in them. Nothing needs to be sacrificed, everything can be gear swapped. It's just a matter of using a few extra HP pieces that normal tanks wouldn't bother with. I swap in full haste an Elv or Galka would use for all spells and full enmity they would use for all abilities and full VIT for Rampart. In between I macro in HP gear and cure myself back to full for more hate.

The point is, PLD is the same job regardless of race and if you suck at it on Elv, you will suck on Taru. If you pwn at it on Elv, you will probably pwn at it on Taru. We use exactly the same gear as any other race of PLDs and play pretty much exactly the same.

Unfortunately, not everyone plays on a PC, and of those who do, not all use windower. The vast majority of PLD are also very lazy about gear swaps. I only know of 3 PLD in the major HNM shells on my server who even do it.

Then only 3 plds in the HNM shells on your server dont suck.

There is NO excuse not to blink. Especially with the new targeting update. NONE.

A tank that doesnt blink is just as bad as a melee that doesnt swap gear for WS/TP, end of story.

And to the OP: Taru tanks are fine, but they do have a bit less survivability. 90% of the time that wont matter, but there are always cases where that extra 200hp they are missing (or the stats/bonuses they give up to get that extra hp) will causet them to hit the floor.

Unless you want to change that 90 to 99%, no, there isn't.

New tags and 10 macro books. There is no reason not to swap no matter what system you are on anymore. PC+Windower just makes it easier to do so.

Just a sec, idk how sucky support have to do with a total random oneshot on a tank?
I mean, it happens, some unfortunate sort of events can trigger a tank being oneshotted for some HNM and what not. Doesnt have to do with some sucky backline etc, just pure damn bad luck \o/

Taru PLDs (fully equiped or not) can easily abuse and spam Cure4 macro as a hate tool, certainly better than Elvaans or Galkas. Unless the latter races have access to high refreshing MP methods (like Gjallarhorn Ares..etc) that's my own opinion.
