SE seems to think by keeping the secret of AV a secret and having this unkillable mob will result in people wanting to play FFXI longer and pay them more subscription fees so they can have a super fun time figuring out to how to kill it. lol

They should have remove the level cap..
;o Pikko is quite the cutie.
I missed it the first time through, but did you read the follow-up question?
This quote just makes everything confusing.. im not even really sure whats being said. Is it when a nuke is resisted, now matter how much INT you have, a resisted spell always gets resisted based on the set amounts. IE: No matter how much INT you have, resists will always either be 1/2 1/4 1/8 or 1/16, and theres no extra amount of INT that can get that 1/16 bumped up to 1/18, or something.JeuxOnline: Can you tell us more about magic accuracy comparison to mind and intelligence in calculating the resist rate?
As you know, when the magic is resisted and the damage goes out, the amount of mind and intelligence have no affect on the damage that was cut. That's all we're willing to divulge.
This says that MND and INT differences do play a role in MAcc.JeuxOnline: Follow-up on the magic accuracy question. Does the effect of MND and INT have an effect on Magic Accuracy that then affects the magic resist?
Depending on magic, intelligence/intelligence comparison between the caster and the target and then from there the resistance rate is based on some kind of calculation there. It depends on the magic but it could be intelligence or it could be mind. It's not always that exact attribute that's being... depending on the magic, the caster's mind against the target's agility. There's different ways that it's calculated. Black mage damage is intelligence/intelligence. Other factors are calculated in. Back to your question about accuracy, whether or not it lands or not is... for white mages it's mind for black mages it's intelligence.
I read it as INT plays a role in acc, but once it decides there is a resist, the amount of resist has nothing to do with INT. Like crafting level matters on chance of HQ, but has nothing to do with chance of HQ 2 or 3 once it is decided that it will HQ.
That makes sense. No matter how much INT you have, the selection of 1/2 1/4 1/8 or 1/16 resistance is chosen 'randomly', or is predefined.
Now I wonder if MAcc helps or not in the resistance selection.
Meh, doesnt really matter; BLM will still go MAB>INT>MAcc (I hope none of you wear crit) if they want damage, or MAcc/Elemental/INT>MAB if they want less resists.
It has to make a difference.
With a low resist rate, you get a lot more half resists than anything else.
With a high resist rate, you get a lot more high resists than half ones...
If it was random or predefined, the proportion of 1/2:1/4:1/8:1/16 would be consistent, and it ain't.
Im not sure if anyone has actually studied resist rates in proportion of their gear, aside from "if I equip more int/elemental/macc gear, I get less resists".
How are you putting random and consistent in the same sentance :x?
It could just be that a person nukes, the system says that the nuke will get resisted, the system doesnt care how much INT you have, and then randomly selects a ratio of resistance.
Idk, im just spouting ideas. afk till tomorrow.
If a media shitstorm did not make SE reveal the secret to killing Absolute Virtue I honestly think nothing will at this point.
On a related note, japan never lost world war IIAllakhazam.com: This is kind of an old news question, but a lot of people still complain that there is heavy use of bots and cheating to get king claims. Can we expect to ever see any changes to the way they are spawned, frequency of spawns, anything like that to try to deter the botting and cheating that goes on?
How do you know these people use tools? On our side, all we really have to work with is the logs and so if there's a tool being used and nothing shows up in the log, then there's really no way we can confirm it, even if a person calls up a GM and says this person is using a tool, Fafnir just "popped purple", we have no way to confirm that on the log side. So... how do you really know they are using tools?
You should have mentioned that a kid from the Make-a-Wish foundation wants to beat AV before he dies.
Good interview, nevertheless. Thanks for the info.
On a somewhat related note, we're running a contest for a dev autographed shirt: Allakhazam.com: Final Fantasy XI: Final Fantasy XI General Discussion Forum
Of course, it's an Allakhazam.com shirt, so I'm sure some of you will be hesitant. lol
I want to win so I can use it as the my kitty litter tray. What better area to put autographs by FFXI's dev team!
-_-
Ahahahahah, oh wow.... I'm still shocked at this point SE hasn't said they'll change the system since this question comes up on nearly every interveiew.Allakhazam.com: This is kind of an old news question, but a lot of people still complain that there is heavy use of bots and cheating to get king claims. I would actualy like to see this AV question get asked : With the changes made to AV is the video realeased by SE still relevant?
Cant read alla whilst @ work, i'll have a read through the article during maintenance!
Because people openly admit to it on the interwebs! i know theres nothing that SE can do in regards to what someone says on a forum but imo a more relevant question would be : How much investigation has been done into the use of Bots that are used to claim NMs at Endgame camps like Kings.how do you really know they are using tools?
Though I thought the question about M.acc was interesting, the answer didn't change anything... well, almost anything. What magic spell has potency/accuracy affected by the difference between caster MND and target AGI???
We're none the wiser about the amount of INT that equals 1 M.acc or if it's even an accurate way to calculate it.
I've often wondered if anyone really even bots anymore, and it's not just a situation like this:
<Shell1> We never bot! It's everyone else who bots!
<Shell2> We don't have a bot! I'm sure that everyone else must!
<Shell3> OMG they actually got claim! It must have been a bot!
...But I'm 100% sure all the other shells on my server bot.
