Diablo II Direct3d perspectives

Hello, everytime I switch to Direct 3d my diablo II starts lagging horribly. I've got a 8600 GTS vid card, 2gb ram, 2.4 C2D so I don't see any reason why I should be lagging. It's just with direct3d not even with perspectives enabled. However I really enjoy perspectives and I'd like to enable it.

Any information on what's up would be neat.

Diablo 2 tends to run best for me in DirectDraw(2d) mode, but when I want to run it in 3d mode, I'll use a Glide wrapper instead of Direct3d. Here's the wrapper I use.
