You win the internet. I've given up on our Dev Team. Far as I'm concerned Tanaka's last great game was Xenogears. Chrono Cross was an utter fuck up and a joke of a sequel to one of the best RPGs ever (I'm not too big a fan but a lot of people loved CT) and he's been steadily fucking up since.

Leave the "Stupidly hard requiring ungodly hours of sidequesting, meds and wtfpwn equipment and spells to defeat" monsters to the offline games. I want to take that disclaimer of theirs and choke each and every last member of the Dev Team to death with it.

Fucking make all Dynamis zones 2 hours fixed time limit at the most (no more bull shit TE mobs) with increased drop rates to compensate, for the love of Christ FIX RotZ END GAME ALREADY (this includes Dyna), Ditch the 24/hour respawn NMs and HNMs unfuck the Mythic Weapons and if it's not too much trouble, do something about the job imbalances.

It's a total fucking Joke that SMN is STILL BROKEN 7 years into the game's life span and jobs like PLD and BLM are fucking impossible to level anymore since everyone wants them for end game but gives a big FUCK YOU when it comes to a party invite.

And to anyone who thinks SE is doing a bang up job, just remember that last week WoW reached 11.5 MILLION subscribers. That's a 23:1 ratio comparing to FFXI. Say what you will about WoW but clearly Blizzard is doing something right.

at least FFXI is better than making new character for another job class on another character slot

yes some other MMORPG have their unique "Skill tree". but lets face it, eventually everyone will use the same "template" after a while.

and those people who dont follow those templates are "special" but we call them "gimps" dont we?

as for WOW having that much subscribers, i am pretty sure 7 mil of them are make up by primary school kids, yelling their father to buy 1 copy for them and trash talking ingame. I have been to WOW before and met alot more of those people than in FFXI.

however this also goes to other games where there are more english players

remember FFXI is a japanese game initially, and is prolly the the only game you see 2 entirely different language being used to communicate.

the idea is different and you cant compare. Blizzard's graphics, style are for people for all age. from kids to adults. FFXI is only for the prepared soul and party oriented(however they changing this).

People who complain here can go to WoW if you cant take it in FFXI, im sure odin server wouldnt mind to unload some bodies

I would agree, but SE is making terrible choice lately to keep their game alive and enjoyable. There is so many easy fix that could be done, but they aren't even trying.

And leaving for another game isnt easy when friends are the main reason you're playing the game. Sure, you could always drag 1 or 2, but it's still not the same.

Saying "they aren't even trying" is a big assed lie and you know it.

The problem is, they are trying, but they are taking too fucking long to actually fix things. Also they really need to improve relations between the NA/EU playerbase, and the devs-- needs to be on a more day-by-day basis, and not every 1-year-fanfest where both connect.

You also need to remember that FFXI was still being designed back when EverQuest and its ilk were the paradigm. World of Warcraft was the first major shift in the industry to actually stick it to EQ and its numerous clones and not die off in a year or two tops.

FFXI could use a little power creeping. Tier II merits was a step in the right direction, as was salvage gear.

Totally agree, there are lots of middle ground tweaks they could do right now to improve the diversity of end-game play styles.

Between the whiners and the sycophants there is a middle ground of decent criticism of this game. The problem is the internet is all about exaggeration and BG is the paragon of exaggeration.

There are lots of things that could and need to be improved, but SE isn't raping your mom and they aren't committing genocide in Rwanda. They are improving things a lot, but they could do a lot more and they could especially increase communication with the NA players.

One of those time lines we got when ToAU came out would have been nice, and even just an idea of what they hope to do in the next year even if they openly say it might not all be possible would do a lot to help out the player base.

The only problem with that is that when they mention anything that isn't at least semi-vague the players go ape-shit when it doesn't appear immediately, so they become gun shy about promising anything, and that is the one thing you can pin on the player base.

I'm not promoting WoW, merely pointing out that they've clearly got some kind of winning formula to have that many subscribers.

It's more of a "I wish SE would get their act together" statement than "WoW is better than FFXI" because I still maintain ours is the better game. Our Dev Team is merely the Three Stooges on drugs. Until they fix a bunch of the aforementioned issues I will continue to have absolutely no faith in them and simply roll with whatever the hell they do. It'd be nice if I could actually play BLM SMN and NIN and enjoy it though.

The problem with these semi-vague statements is more that they don't pan out, which makes it look like the people saying them don't know what they're talking about:

    SE: /kneel to avoid Odin's auto-KO move.
SE: we designed mythic weapons to be easier to get than relics
    SE: AV video
SE: gibberish about killing PW that still doesn't mean you won't get raped trying to actually do it
GMs: Earth Staff isn't enough dmg/why are you holding that pet?/Steam Cleaner is working fine/ATNM Test is working as intended

Both SE reps and GMs as groups repeatedly show they know less about this game than people who've just bought accounts to play it.

This game would have a lot more satisfied players if the 3 big "endgame obstacle courses" (sky, sea, znm) had an end more like the first. It's not so much that those are the only things to do in the game (they definitely aren't), but the poor design resulting in God-mode bosses post-Kirin really don't give much hope for what WotG's "sky" will involve.

    SH/Ohat DD's, full Genie BLM's, and Blueberry PLD's unite!

    Fuck yeah! Mediocrity!

Also: FFXI is all about sidegrades when it comes to gear, I thought.

Do I NEED Askar head/hands? Do I NEED a Cuchu mantle? Does anyone NEED a Sonic belt? (seriously, wtf, I've seen 3 of them now on Leviathan)... no.

I want them for variety, for a different gearset, for the epeen stroking satisfaction of the different model from everyone else.

Any MMO where players can hit the top level in 2 weeks is way to easy imo.

From what I've been told WoW is even more end game based than ffxi. It's all a rush to the top level, then spend the rest of your time killing big bosses and looting...

FFXI has a lot more than end game, and I'm happy the dev team is focusing on the non 75ers and new comers again, treasure caskets and FoV, increasing exp from EPs/DCs, making the gimp pet jobs not so gimp (still broken though for the most part)...

They're trying. And I have to say I'm impressed with some of their ideas. Personally making mobs drop treasure chests with nice temp items was sheer brilliance. It rocks when the mage is about to run out of MP an the impending {Let's rest for awhile.} is coming, and BOOM, treasure casket with a Hi Ether +3 in it, whoot!

Though, SE should just go and spend a bit just stepping back and all out fixing stuff instead of plumming down more events. I wouldn't mind it if they spent one entire update fixing all their past mistakes, summoners, rdm, bst, pup, av, pw, pretty much everythign their is wrong with the game. Just sit and fix it.

And they really need to stop upgrading dnc, I know they wanna make it up to us for being so fruity, but they're getting a bit over the top and now that impending mega nerf is starting to loom... Hopefully we dont just become another blu class.

You DNC wish you were as good as BLU. DNC isn't even close to a nerf.

Has any MMO had something similar to Level Sync? This single-handedly made leveling in FFXI from an often futile attempt into an easy, relatively painless procedure. Plus leveling quickly in the favorite exp spots whenever you want just takes the cake :D
