It's the only time I caught up with people with whom I had since parted ways! Getting the scoop on another linkshells drama is always nice, we'd sit around the campfire and complain about who we hated most. Then my own linkshell would kill the darters as if it increased our chances of claiming and I'd dick around with the Darters, or log onto my Fafnir ToD mule in between windows and screw with people in /say. I found ways to entertain myself!
My LS does all these bar kings and we still pretty much enjoy ourselves doing the event. Possibly the key to it is I don't spam the events as often and keep things fresh (like maybe we'll have 2 weeks in a row of Sea on our event night, then the next week KS99, then a Castle[S] raid, etc).
But yeah if you're not enjoying FFXI, why play for? If you're only playing for friends and not for the content at all, you're just going to become one of those jaded assholes that hang on FF forums that nobody likes because they remind us of those old farts who keep complaining how the youth of today suck and everything was better back in their day (which mind you is insulting and degrading).
Seriously, if people play for content, whitegate wouldn't be nearly as full as it is these days.
Doesn't really work when your clique isn't using irc/playing the shitty free mmo. Seriously, if all my friends would follow me anywhere, I'd be playing WoW right now, but alas...
People aren't worth wasting your time on something you don't want to do, at least not when you're paying for it. If they actually care about being your friend, THEY'LL make an effort to stay in contact, the obligation isn't entirely on you.
Neither is it entirely on them, for some people, this game is a status quo.
Then those people really need to reevaluate their lives; Do you really need social contact so badly that you're going to pay $13+ a month to do something you find boring, tedious, and uninteresting? At least the rest of us actually enjoy having a 2nd job we have to pay for.
K, but I don't see how people lacking personal perspective conflicts with my saying they need to develop some.
Do I enjoy the game still?
Yes, enough of it to keep on playing despite of all its flaw
Do I wish that the developer would get their collective heads out of their asses and actually try to make this game's content that much more enjoyable?
Fuck yes.
Then what I'm saying doesn't apply to you, does it? So what are you talking about?
Ponies
Jay's Penis.
PS:
Fate Stay Night reference?I am the bone of my katana
Chainmail is my body, and shihei is my blood
I have purchased over a thousand toolbags
Unaware of the inventory gain, nor aware of the gil loss
Have withstood pain to create many shadows
Waiting for utsusemi's recast
I have no regret, this is the only path
My whole life was Unlimited Gil Waste
There are events that I enjoy, but I have no problem saying that the thing I most look forward to when I log on is doing those events with my friends. If my friends left the game, I would be hard pressed to stay no matter the content. I don't think playing because you have friends in the game is necessarily a bad thing.
This is one of the reasons that the Odin people are so uptight about potentially splitting the server. No amount of content is going to over come building up 5+ years of relationships and friendships.
For what's it worth, people kinda plays online rpg for the social interaction by default, otherwise there are a fuckton console rpg that's catered to less masochistic general population that'd serve for better source of entertainment.
And yeah, it's off shirou's version of the chant.
