I was on one server for 3 years before I moved I know exactly how a move can change things but consider this. If they're giving you an option to move to ANY of the servers they listed, or be forced to one of those and not have a choice in the matter, and you let it come down to them moving you, then you're just foolish and deserve it.
No, you can't sympathize because chances are you didn't move due to your server being overcrowded as fuck.

Actually, "half" is too strong of a word I think. From what I've heard the NA population size isn't that abnormal, it's the Japanese player population that's especially crowded on Odin, thanks to publicity from the players writing for the Lightning Brigade guidebooks.
It's probably 3:1; game is unplayable during the weekends; looking to xp/merit? hope you enjoy MMM because you're not gonna get shit from Campaign (every zone probably has on average 40+ people) dual parties in both bird camps are normal, Mire/Mount Z become a warzone.

To be fair..SE did give people the chance to freely migrate, as usual..no one wanted to try and help a situation...so if people are forced off..you know what they say..you brought it upon yourselves.

/comfort Odin. It would really sux if SE resorted to force ppl out.
There are better options to solve this:
    1. Block the server, open free passes out, and let the population go down over time by ppl leaving and quiting. Maybe even throw in an rar/ex 1 time only reward.
    2. Split the server into two (about 3k in each), and let ppl pick A or B, or pick for them.
    3. Remove the last 2-3k that join the server. Send them an POL mail to pick a server or SE picks for you. New characters get a free pass, ppl that moved into Odin get their money back.(Very doubfull)

Anything is better than forcing ppl out of their FFXI homes, all their friends gone, all their efforts in LSs gone. I would probably quit if that every happened to me too. Lets just hope SE doesn't fuck shit up. gl you guys. D:

Like a few people have said, the overpopulation is ONLY from the JP.

I've been on Odin for a few days (transfered the day before they closed it lulz) and during NA normal time, the population is THE SAME AS ANY OTHER SERVER. 2200~2600ish online throughout the day.

The one time I tried to log on at around 11pm JP time, there were 4500 people online, and like 600 of them in whitegate. I don't know how much worse this is earlier during jp prime time, but within 2 hours the population was already down to 2500.

Yet to play during a weekend, but if I hadn't logged on at 9am the other day, I would have thought everyone was imagining these congestion problems cause I hadn't seen shit, lol.

Also, to anyone who says to remove recent server transfers: fuck you, I payed $25 to move here, if SE forces me out they better refund my damn money.

edit: for a better perspective, 11:45pm jp time, saturday, 5600 online, 682 in whitegate, 63 in nyzul, 40 people in alzadaal, too lazy to search salvages, but that's pretty damn bad. [And even with all this damn congestion, there's only 2 parties meriting in Thickets, lol]

If they try to force anyone out, it better be the JP, because removing NA isn't gonna do shit, but we know SE would never do that to their fellow Japanese people.

I know that if I were forced to move, I'd hope they'd at least give me some advance warning ... knowing SE, it'd be the day half my HQ staves were in my delivery box because I needed space to level DRG or something ... I'd wake up on another server wondering where the hell my staves were. ><

Of course, I'm not on Odin, but I can see some shit like this taking place, as it is typical SE behavior, lol.

Your choice to move here. Why you would want to move to a server that's repeatedly had offers and warnings for people to move off of is beyond me. It's one thing to stay if you've been here since day one. It's something else entirely to ignore everything SE has been warning about and move here anyway. Your fuck you is noted, but fuck off if you think you're helping the problem any. If you think you're entitled to a refund for being blatantly stupid enough to move to a server they spent at least the last month trying to get people off of (and far longer with repeated Odin Server congestion reports), you deserve to lose your money and get charged $25 again for wherever they potentially force move you.

Says the one with 24 posts, lol.

Cause, you know, I don't have any friends on Odin or anything, I obviously just blindly tried to join a "crappy" server! <rolleyes>

And I'm really causing so many problems, raising the online population from 2433 to 2434, omg, the server's gonna explode!

Love how post counts get thrown around as a counter argument. I guess the more posts you have, the more intelligent you are? Because obviously if I haven't been posting here since day one and average 10 posts/day, I'm less intelligent. "<rolleyes>"

I never said it wouldn't be fair to boot you off the server or that you didn't have a legit reason to move here. I've repeatedly said it was SE's fault for having us in this situation to begin with, but yet again, you knew the risks of moving here when you agreed to pay that $25. If they force people off and you're one of them, you took the risk. Saying "fuck you" to everyone who thinks the latest server transfers should get booted just places blame on everyone who has been here for far longer.

Well, the Odin server attracts a lot of players in Japan because of the Dengeki ryodan LS that is present on the server. They're a large group of staffers from the "Dengeki" group video game magazines/guides and they have published numerous books, guides and comics based on their FFXI "adventures". Their guide books are very nice and informative
Not only did people came to Odin because of them, but this server has also consequently gained the reputation of being a server with "mostly Japanese players" -- whether that's true or not, it's what it was said to be -- among Japanese players, pushing even more people to move there.

It's also more or less known that all the German players gather on Odin and it's supposedly a server with one of the largest EU percentage. There's been a major migration there from German players after server switching was introduced. I wonder what the /sea is like during peak European time...

Now, I wonder why SE won't give incentives to move or at the very least make a destination list with most of the servers, and not just the 10 least populated. Sure enough someone who enjoys Odin wouldn't want to move to a server that's the exact opposite in terms of population. Why not make it, say, some kind of reward (a free month of subscription, some item, anything) for moving to a very under-populated server, and make transfer to an average server free?

Having been in a EU heavy server, no, Odin is not very EU heavy at all. (compared to Ragnarok, that place was fucking EU majority 24/7)

It would be unfair for Se to move the original Odin players or new people to the game by random server pick when they make their char. SE should have removed Odin from the server transfer list and new char lists unless it was Odin players making mules for whatever reasons. And I can understand people not wanting to move from their online home or losing out on the money they payed for a transfer but all in all gotta look at what is smarter to do now. If I was in SE's I'd leave the original players/those on their the longest and move the transfers, offer some rare item or gil (but not overly rare that a lot of people want to move) and remove it from the transfer/new char lists.
Yes it sucks for the transfers but all in all you gotta think, for SE it's about keeping their money flow going...and making the original players move....while I see a lot people of quitting flat out when they find out they got force moved.
And from what I've read so far Odin seems like a friendly server as for end game and understand why people transfer but I'm pretty sure most of those LS's aren't looking for new people like BG isn't on Bahamut.
It's just one big mess that SE allowed to happened when they knew full well that Odin over it's number for players.
All I can say is I side on the side that the original players shouldn't be forced to leave their home, I know I wouldn't want to. And if they are forced I hope a lot do quit to show SE how stupid they can be.

Says the person who has been on the server all of what, 2 weeks now? I assure you if due your own due diligence you'll find the plethora of EU based shells on this server. Really don't get what your point is in trying to make a stand against the people that have been here forever now. You're really going to make the argument that you're just as entitled to be here as the rest of us? I guess I can't talk though cause my penis is only 4 times bigger than Qtipus and we both pale in comparison to you sir.

Don't really get the discrimination against the JP either. Sure, it's more congested during JP times, but why are they less entitled to come here just like you did? If we really want to play the squatting rights cards here, the old school ones got us all beat.

The people sitting there blaming the Odin Community for not moving when the carrots were offered seriously need to ask themselves if they would have done the same. If you've been a member of a community as long as we have you should understand the difficulties of just dropping everything and shipping out. Granted, some people are not as tied down as others. The whole blocking off transfers and created characters should have been done long ago, but SE turning their back on $25 for probably 2 minutes worth of work is hard for them to do.

Are you seriously incapable of logic?

The native people to Odin are at fault because they didn't leave when everyone else came flooding on to Odin?

Some of the statements made in this thread are incredibly stupid.

LOLZ at using Q's post count to justify your point.

You have been on Odin for 1 day. Q has been on Odin since day 1.

Q runs the largest Dynamis LS on the server, has a relic and paid for it himself.

I can tell that you are definitely going to fit in with most of the server transfers to Odin...
