Applying for Odin World Emigration (Dec. 17) - Possible World Split/Forced Transfers

Source: FINAL FANTASY XI Official Web Site

Applying for Odin World Emigration (Dec. 17)
Starting on Nov. 14, 2008, we took applications for a number of players who wish to emigrate from the Odin world. However, the population of the Odin world is still rather large and due to the congestion, there are times where game-play is affected. Thus, we have decided to hold another application period for emigration from the Odin world.

In addition to the application period for emigration, the following operations will become unavailable to prevent any further increase in the population of the Odin world.

    - Transferring character(s) to the Odin world using the World Transfer Service
    - Creating new character(s) on the Odin world
    - Issuing Gold World Passes in the Odin world

In case the emigration campaign and the above measures have no effect on the congestion of the Odin world, measures such as forced transfers to other worlds or splitting the Odin world into a number of separate worlds may be considered.

    * If you wish to emigrate, please refer to "World Emigration Guidelines" and apply as soon as possible.

    * World Emigration differs from the World Transfer service in that there will be no need to purchase a World Transfer, and the 90-day exclusion from the World Transfer service will not apply.

    * Characters who have already used the World Transfer service within the last 90 days will still be able to participate in World Emigration, but the 90-day exclusion from the World Transfer service will still continue.

    [World Emigration Guidelines]

    Applicable Worlds:
    -Odin World

    Application Period:
    From Dec. 17, 2008 11:00 (PST) to Jan. 6, 2009 7:00 (PST)

    Destination Worlds:
    -Pandemonium World
    -Garuda World
    -Kujata World
    -Seraph World
    -Lakshmi World
    -Midgardsormr World
    -Fairy World
    -Asura World
    -Remora World
    -Hades World

    Emigration Schedule:
    Transfer date: Jan. 7, 2009 9:00 (PST)

World emigration will coincide with the server maintenance occurring on the same day. Following maintenance, emigrating characters will be transferred to their designated Worlds.

[How to apply for World emigration]

When the application period begins, an NPC called the World Shifter will appear in each of the following areas. By talking to this NPC, you can apply for or cancel World emigration, and confirm your character's emigration status. Please read the World Shifter's responses carefully before submitting an application.

    Ru'Lude Gardens (I-10)
    Port San d'Oria (I-8)
    Port Bastok (L-8)
    Windurst Walls (G-6)

    * Note: After the application deadline, you will be unable to make any further requests for World emigration.

How to confirm your World emigration status:

During the application period, a login message will appear indicating your World emigration status. If you are already logged in, you can view this message by entering "/smes". Please be sure to confirm your status before the end of the application period.

    * Message displayed when applying for World emigration:
"You have submitted an application for World emigration."

    * Message displayed when not applying for World emigration:
"You have not submitted an application for World emigration."

    [Important Reminders]

If you are considering applying for World emigration, please read the following points and apply early to ensure a smooth transition.

    When emigrating:
Emigration of characters is done one character at a time, not one PlayOnline ID at a time. If you request emigration for any of your other characters, please conduct all applications separately.

    Character name:
If your character happens to have the same name as another player in the destination World, you will have to change your name before entering that World. If you need to change your name, your name will be shown in yellow, and you must follow the on-screen instructions. This name change will not affect your Friend List.

    Delivery Box/Auction items:
All items up for auction and in your Delivery Box will be lost when you emigrate. Please collect these items before moving. Any items in your inventory and Mog Safe will be transported with you to the new world.

    Regarding used linkshells:
Linkpearls or pearlsacks cannot be transferred over and will be destroyed in the emigration process. However, the linkshell owner will automatically receive a new unopened linkshell upon arrival in the new World.

Regarding the exchange of old linkshells with unopened linkshells:
If a linkshell owner emigrates, the player's old linkshell will be deactivated and a new unopened linkshell will be automatically provided. If you have an unused linkshell, you may bring it to the new World.

They're gonna have a major problem because its obvious people don't want to move from there. It's going to come down to people being forced to move to a place they don't want to go or having the world split. There's going to be massive QQing.

Enough where doing popular content at JP peak hours makes it a problem. Things like Nyzul and Kings suck during those times.

Limbus has been getting congested as well, but I would blame that more on too many small shit groups taking forever in zones than the server population.

Dynamis scheduling was a problem two years ago when I used to do it, and I assume it has only gotten worse.

Out of everything that has happened in this game, killing Odin would be the only thing that would make me quit.

    WOW! Forced transfers are luuuuuuulz.

I'd guess that instead of just moving you, they'd make you apply to server 1, 2 or 3 and those that don't pick a server get one assigned randomly.

At least, that would be the smart thing to do.

Or they can just kick the newest players or those who have transfered to Odin off. Kicking original players off of Odin is a huge dick move.

No lack of Aftermath awesomeness can compete with this bullshit. ._.

Now that I think about it, a server split is much more scary than forced moving. How would you fricken pick? What if you are in multiple shells and they both decide to go to different servers? It's like having to choose who lives and who dies in your little game world. This just blows my mind...

wow, i have a mule on odin, i guess i will move him to somewhere random, i don't know if this is the best idea but i think for everyone they should just be like Odin is closing, just one of the three lowest populated servers to move to in the next month, if u don't choose, it will be choosen for you at random, that way your whole ls could move to the same one, and all ur friends, but who knows it could back fire and like 80% of the entire population could just go to one server and be like, "u can kill odin, but u can't kill the people of odin" and then SE will just be like /fail

I guess that if you were in Odin and had stablished your social bounds in the server you would be the first one to move out of generosity, right?

Or if it's only the recent transferees that "deserve a lesson" then move them back to their original server and reimburse their transfer fee. It's not their fault that SE didn't put measures in time to prevent server overpopulation due to world migrations.
