I solo'd the new voucher you go in and your in a fishing contest against npc's, first to 3000 points win. There we're no monsters that attack, they just steal fish if you have them in temp inventory. Pretty easy just bring freshwater bait i used sinking minnow was catching giant catfish and they we're worth 495 each.

In light of Redlers post after mine let me say I have 100fishing skill all the gear and ebisu. those might help ('x ' )

I have like 7 fishing skill, the four +1 fishing skill gears, halcyon rod, and fly lure.

I could only catch copper frogs(120) and I lost quite a few catches due to skill.
Colibri will only take 1 fish, Rocs will take everything.

The Knights won in a little over 20 minutes

bullshit monger, went solo, had 3 fish, 2 monster bites in all time allowed.

When you reel a monster in, it says you're overburden, you have to talk to the npc to get rid of the monster - you're also under the effect of gravity while the monster follow you -

To the one who said he did it with sinking minnow, i don't trust you. This was horrible.

Just did Voucher 8 twice, once solo and 2nd time joined someone else who was going with a mule. First time I lost with 1300-some points. I used sinking minnow and caught 3 giant catfish and 2 mobs.

2nd run we ended up winning. Not sure what the other person was using for bait but I again started with sinking minnow and after 2 catfish I switched to worm lure. With worm lure my first fish was a Monkie-Onke (500 pts) then after that 4 black eels.

Once you win you are warped to a room with 3 fisher NPC's (a Taru, Elvann, and a Mithra I think it was) and NPC Moblin asks you to pick one. We took the elvann and the other 2 disappear and he fished up a treasure chest. Chest contained Rune 85 "Fisherman" (the tab holder took that) and 6 moat carp. They said they also got Rune 12 from the CC chest.

From those two experiences I would definitely recommend going with at least 2 people. Also not sure what I hooked but got a terrible feeling !!! that I couldn't reel in on first run. Stamina reduction was comparable to a Gugrusaurus with more time (bit on sinking minnow by the way), barely got it to 50% before I timed out. Also for the record I'm 100 fishing with Lu Shang's and +4 in gear (Body, hands, and Waders, kept on W. legs to get to NPC to turn in fish quicker)

For someone with 0 experience with MMM, what are the prereqs for being able to do the new fishing mmm? I assume the ring comes from there but no nothing about MMM. I can dual box if that is helpful. Someone care to condense a 70 page thread for the ignorant?

If you've been helping others, each time they open that chest at the end, you received marbles. You probably have a decent stockpile already.

Yep, helping others gets you marbles too. You can check how many you've got by talking to the gobbie in the doorway of the shop. (Chatnachoq) If it's more than 100, then Maze Voucher -> 100 -> Voucher 08. Use it, then equip it in your tabula, and trade it to the Choco Stables. The maze has been explained further up.

About the maze: Noticed that the monsters didn't really follow me around, I didn't really get too close to them if I had to. Closest was about 10' to a Roc. Found that a crab gives you weight for a little while, a pug can be traded in for 100 points, and just follows you around otherwise.
Black Eel: 200 points
Shining Trout: 230
Copper Frog: 100
Catfish: 450

I did try and fish something up in Jeuno with the rod and bait, but took too long, even though I only had to hold down one direction the entire time! The MMM Rod and Minnow was good for catching Trout and Eels just up the ramp to the right of where you start. I also think that if there's no sparkles in a pond, there's no fish, but that was just a small observation.

Yeah, you can use your own rod, and it's probably better to. My friend had Ebisu equipped, and was getting catfish left, right and centre using a sinking minnow. It's good that the MMM Rod isn't too bad though, if you're a bit short.

My update has stalled a couple times now, so I'm not going to get a chance to try it today. For those that have cleared the maze:

1) How many marbles from normal chest?
2) What runes used?
3) Any items in either normal or CC chest beside runes? I saw someone mention some moat carp.

Well, post-update we can exchange runs back to the Moblins for marbles.

I had a Peon rune and a Healing Magic rune surplus, so I turned them in for more marbles. I think Peon got me 6 and Healing Magic 4 marbles (or maybe the other way around), so it's not that many per turn-in.

Just some book-keeping updates, of the runes I have the following can be placed on V08:
15-20, 81, 94, 102, 106, 108.

Nothing 1-14, 38-45, 100, 109 or 110 can be placed. Synthesis runes and V05 job runes also can't be placed, to no one's surprise. I'm a little surprised to see 100 not be usable. I'll update what I find when I finish my run.

EDIT 1: Yay! Back to 100 gil instead of 250 entry fees.

EDIT 2: Went in solo and lost, as I was expecting. Not gonna lie, I don't really know anything about fishing with my level 20 skill. Because I don't fish much, I decided to toss Weakness on. I began with a 300 point head start. Is that normal, or the result of using rune 20?

I played around with MMM rod, MMM large ball, and MMM Minnow. I didn't notice a difference in what I was catching with the two baits (didn't get time to try MMM small ball.) I got a lot more monster messages with large ball, but that could very well be coincidence. At the 15 minute warning, one of the rocs left it's post and began booking it back and forth across the map, which made it tough to hand in fish on occasion.

Point totals for the fish I caught:
Crayfish: 10 points
Moat Carp: 50 points
Shining Trout: 230 points.
Copper frog: Ask the roc that ate it. 100 points according to someone above.
