It is...interesting. I believe what happens is that the mobs spawn (staggered) in the 4 corners and move to the center (where you start). What we do is to immediately run like hell for the NW corner as soon as we enter the maze proper. Camping here, the first 3? mobs from each wave will pop on top of you/slightly behind you, but that's not usually a problem.
As you're killing the ones that pop on you, the next batch from that wave should be reaching the center. Your BRD just has to run out and get remotely near them (line of sight), and one of them should aggro him and the rest link. He might actually have to try to pull them sometimes. We almost always got 2-3 mobs at once, so people can't be lazy or gimp with sleeping. You also have to watch that your DDs don't drift out too far; the next batch can easily aggro them before you're ready.
By not camping in the center, I guess you're missing out on the ??? points that spawn and give you temp items, but I don't know how good those are, and the parties I've brought in (which were pretty damn good) didn't, IMO, kill quickly enough to camp there.
Edit: found my post about this in my LS forums. With RDM BRD COR DNC DRG DRG, we were getting ~11.5k (or more once we learned how to chain in there correctly) per 19-minute run.

Edit yet again: As you might have guessed by my chatting, the one possible negative is that this is similar to getting your exp reward at the end of an ENM or Campaign Battle: if you're uncapped and on exp mode, and the exp is enough to cap you, the "extra" is wasted. You can use the exp from chaining the mobs to help recap you, then flip back to merits before someone opens the chest, though. And this doesn't affect pre-75 leveling.
