I think it's a mistake to assume that just because it's impossible to cast flash whenever it's up, that haste vs. enmity question should be ignored or considered unquantifiable. You can assume that if someone is making an effort to cast it as often as possible, that there will be a relatively short average interval of time from the time the recast is up that it will be recast, and that this interval will be the same regardless of if the recast is 22 seconds or 25 seconds or 45 seconds.

So from there it's just a matter of comparing the hate over time between enmity gear and haste gear based on immediate casting, and then again based on, say, immediate + 5 seconds, and if the two agree, then the question is answered. If they disagree, then you could also make the argument that it's too small a difference to 'matter', or to defer to some of the other questions people are treating in this thread.

    Ramuh

    Flash
    CE: 180
    VE: 1280
    Recast: 45 Seconds
    Walahra Turban: 5% Haste
    2.25 Seconds off recast
    Homam Manopolas: 3% Haste
    1.35 Seconds off recast
Homam Cosciales: 3% Haste, 2% Recast time Fast Cast
    1.35 Seconds off recast (Haste)
.90 Seconds off recast (Fast Cast)
    Homam Gambieras: 3% Haste
    1.35 Seconds off recast
Loq. Earring: 1% Recast time Fast Cast
    .45 Seconds off recast

    Total: 7.65 Seconds off recast

(Please excuse me if a couple numbers are off, I rushed this before Dynamis.)

Ok, so for simplicity...I'll go with CE/Second, but first I'll figure the CE over a minute and a half assuming timing is perfect, keeping in mind this is a perfect situation and only exists in theory.

Flash Using No Haste: 380 CE/90 Seconds

Flash Using The Haste Set Up Provided Above: I'll leave my work since this one is a bit more complicated. 37.35 = Recast so... 90/37.35 = 2.41 (rounded from 2.409...) so 180 x 2.41 = 433.8 CE/90 Second

So in a situation that doesn't exist, without including total Enmity, Haste does win out. This doesn't really help imo, common sense would tell you this much.

No. Because you should not be casting flash or spamming ja's like an idiot.

I love it when my co-tank and I are both maxed on hate and he uses stuff like sentinal > flash > cure3 > rampart > cure4 > flash. I laugh and flash the mob and get hate back lol.

There's a point in time where enmity is capped, and all you have to do is relax, keep shadows up, and flash to bounce hate.

Yes in that situation, you would be gaining 5% haste and enmity remain the same. But again, 2 sec's, or 4 sec's in your case doesn't mean much for flash. Because, again, you will NOT be riding your flash macro. You lie if you say you are.
Have you ever tanked something that's actually difficult? Something like Lambton Worm - an HNM that hits hard, spams AOEs and also hits pretty quickly?

If you haven't then you shouldn't really be saying 2-4 seconds off spells like Utsusemi/Flash/Reprisal are worthless.

Yes I tank "stuff that's hard". The concept is, 2 pld's bounce hate. One will lose hate so the other can recast shadows. It's not that hard -.-

kandiekane your post in response to mine is pretty much worthless.

I was addressing a point disputed above, regarding what is better (haste or enmity) in situations where someone is trying to cast flash as often as possible. I was not taking any position at all on whether or not someone should be casting it as often as possible, and in the situation you describe where you're not, then the question I was addressing isn't even applicable.

Or both tanks could maximize hate...

Who the hell are you tanking with, and what the hell are you tanking, that you have to hold back your hate actions + dont care about recasts on shadows/flash. Do you even have pld leveled?

you don't need to fucking maxamize hate when your capped -.-

    Edit**

NM's that I kill on daily basis: khim, tiamat, cerb, DI, SW
Events I go to: dynamis, einherjar, salvage (not on pld for this), limbus (not on pld either)

So what about mobs that you can't cap your hate on? Surely more enmity in a shorter amount of time is better right?

Well, seeing as you think /WAR provides more hate than /RDM that is a pretty stupid question for you.

Can we just ignore Kandie? I think everyone here understands he/she doesnt know what they are talking about. I dont feel like spending any more energy arguing against them, they obviously are very confused.

I'll be ignoring him from now on, completely owned him in the "Your view on a taru tank" thread and his comebacks are lame so i'm done!

To all mages out there: set up proper st macros or use BlinkMeNot, you can even just make a macro for each of your tanks if you really want to, it doesn't matter too much.
