Some Corsair questions...

Ive gotten 25k-30lk an hour being COR/RNG as well so I dont really understand what being /WHM has to do with getting 25k-30k an hour.

Well, you're usually clueless, so I'll explain in more detail. I noted being /WHM because that's in fact what I use. People use /RNG, /WAR, and maybe even /NIN to aid in doing damage on COR. I typically do 0 damage in merit parties and still manage nearly 30k an hour. Point being: Be a DD COR if you want, it's fun, sure. But no one needs you to. You could give rolls and afk and no one would know the difference. If they need you, they're gimp. Simple fact. Before you try to post more confusion, note that I said "need".

The problem here is that it really depends on the situation. At certain camps with certain party setups, it's more beneficial for a COR to play a backline role and sub WHM for pure healing/support. In other situations, it's more beneficial for a COR to throw on a DD sub and add some damage.

This really isn't about what's needed or what isn't needed. It's about maximizing the potential of the job. If you're in a 30k/hr party as COR/WHM on birds (as an example) and aren't solo healer, most likely you barely need to cast a single cure spell, so you're reduced to rolling and sitting there. Alternatively, you could be DDing, and help expediate kills. The only reason to not DD in said situation is if doing so would cause your party to kill too fast for repops, in which case it would be a necessity to NOT DD, but then again, I've never really encountered a time where that rule came into effect. But, the point stands that while you can say that DDing on COR isn't really needed in a number of situations, you can say the exact same about backup heals and status cures on COR.

Of course, it depends on your philosophy. Many people would be satisfied with 30k/hr for doing nothing but standing there and buffing and throwing a few cures out. My philosophy is that if you can easily do more with your time to get higher exp/hr, then do it.

Yeah, there's definitely nothing wrong with DD COR, I've just yet to be in any situation where it was necessary. It's usually just extra. People get all bent out of shape trying to justify DD COR, but it's like justifying DD BRD or something. If you're geared properly it's nowhere near gimp, but it's also not necessary unless you're in a tight squeeze and desperately need the extra damage. Personally, I've never been in that situation.

Comparing DD cor to DD brd is just... wow.

I'm thinking the people saying that COR DD = broken chain because of lack of mobs aren't consistantly chaining Wivres/Skoffins and/or pulling additional mobs @ Tandjana Islet, as well as using Corsair's Roll. I've lost chain due to needing repops in parties that were unable to do these things, but never in a good party.

Gun belt, Swift Belt, Brutal Earring, Dusk Gloves and feet if you got enough acc to get 'em instead of commodore's.

WS~ I'd go w/ Flame/Breeze, gorget, Triumphx2.

Stop dual wielding because it slows your tp gain...
Level at the very least /RNG, preferably /WAR too

melee in af body is fail, there are 1001 options but at least get a s.h.
w hands are easy to get, dusk for melee
pahluwan legs, barbarossa, dusk, etc, probably forgetting something
behemoth are fine for slug shot, get STR rings if you plan on doing detonator
triumph/beaters(/rng) earrings
if you do/can do limbus, upgrade your af feet/head/body in that order and get a brutal earring
start doing salvage and/or nyzul

Yeah, definitely level /war. It's amazing on COR, also if you have sea I would invest in a Light Gorget, it works with both Slug Shot and Detonator.

Lately I tend to favor Optical Hat over Walhara Turban for TP. The extra Acc really helps to use meat at birds.

Update:
Well I've had COR 75 for a few months now.

I was wondering: I have heard people prefer Slug over Deto, but I will ask: What kind of buffs are you getting? (ie hunters, using sushi). Did you merit Marks? My slugs seem to fall under 70% even with loaded racc.

As it current stands, I average 1200-1300 on Birds with Detonator /rng. I am convinced I could hit 95% acc with Deto regardless of sub. I may try /war for fun in the next few merits (break some Deto record for me; highest about 1470) but I am more convinced /rng will give me more consistency.

I'm quite surprised not to see other people recommending the whole Denali set while building TP. With the set bonus, you get some nice stats (better imo over separates) and it looks half decent (as a set). Here are my TP, Detonator and QD sets.

Walahra, Cuirie, Dusk Gloves, Chausses, and Dusk Ledelsens easily outperforms full Denali for melee TP. (and there are a lot of modifications of those pieces that would still outdo 5x Denali)..
