Anyone try the new NVidia Beta Driver 179.28 released 12/18 for Geforce 8x and 9x mobile series?

    Hi Everyone,

Figured I'd ask if anyone tried out or even knew about the beta driver 179.28 they released on 12/18. Apparently NVidia finally has taken some action and has decided to now push out drivers for laptop users instead of having them wait until the OEM manufacturer pushed them out. There has been a few articles about it.. Curious how it runs with a 8700MGT SLI card. Here's one article:

Nvidia to Provide Notebook Driver Updates - Lab Notes by ExtremeTech

Here's the link directly to NVidia for the Vista 32 bit link and supported cards:

    GeForce Release 179

Two of the three Dell XPSs need a Bios update first with NVidia directing to the needed link. Can get the other OS verisions there too...

Hopefully someone can add some info, I'm looking into getting a Dell X1730 with the card I mentioned above. Would love to know if this fixes some of the drop framerate issues I keep reading people having with the card to help make my decision..

I have an XPS M1730 and never had issues with FFXI with Vista/nvidia, driver update or not.

Is it a SLI card? Those are the ones I read still had issues, in particular 8700mgt and up. Wanna make sure FFXI works good with official drivers before I spend good money and not be able to play the game with unbareable lag.. Did it once already, trying to avoid forcing in the driver too.

I'm running an XPS 1730. SLI 8700M GT as well. I currently have SLI disabled, but even with it enabled I didn't really ever have any problems. I did download the newer drivers (from laptopvideo2go I think) and never had issues with my game.

Mine is an SLI-capable dual 8700 GT, although I don't have SLI enabled at the moment. And FFXI works fine. I've downloaded the new driver, but haven't installed it yet. Not sure if it'll do more harm than good, since I have no problems now. lol

(other than the hardware-caused BSOD I've been getting since Dell replaced some internal hardware, as mentioned in my other thread... but that's likely only fixed by addressing the hardware issue that caused it and having Dell re-replace some parts)
