    Hackable PSPs?

So I've been thinking about getting a PSP, but I want to install custom firmware. I heard some of the newer firmware upgrades for the 1000s and 2000s are a bitch to downgrade, and the 3000 is outright impossible.

Can someone explain what kind of PSP I should be looking for and where I can find one?

Get a fat PSP, and the older the better. It'll help if the firmware is low too.

If you have a pandora battery you can hack any PSP minus the 3000.

I'd like to get a 2000, but I heard some of them are unhackable. Like, they have a specific motherboard that makes it impossible. Is there an appreciable difference in performance between the fat and slim? I don't care about the size, I've been using a fat DS for 4 years and it doesn't bother me.

I have a slim PSP 2000, hacked it in 5 minutes with a Pandora Battery.

PSP2000 is a better alternative than the phat because you get more ram and longer battery life (normal bat) and... well, it's thinner. The downgrading is a simple process, I recommend you find some of my posts in the Dissidia thread regarding this (last 2-3 pages).

I ended up buying a GoW bundle PSP 2000. I found a thread on a PSP forum that says all 2000 core SKUs sold within the last few months have been the unhackable ones (motherboard TA-88v3) but the GoW bundled ones have TA-88v2, which is hackable.

Sucks though, it was like $100 more.

Well, since this thread is up. I'm going to ask a few questions.

So far, I recently got a PSP 2000 out of want. In hindsight, not the greatest decision, but whatever.

Anyways, after looking through the selection, it came down to a used Star Wars (Darth Vader logo) PSP 2000 which happens to have the 3.71 Firmware.

After whacking google a bit, I found out I need to resort to using a Pandora battery, and with my lack of electronical/hardware knowledge, I just outright bought a Datel and a 4.0 GB Memory Duo stick.

    *Ahem*

In any case, would someone be happy as to point me in the right direction as to what to buy next (I suppose a USB cable wouldn't hurt) and do?

Sure. If you have the super old PSP, just get yourself a original copy of GTA, and google. in you're case you will need to buy a Pandora's battery, and google :D once you have custom firmware on there, its really easy to upgrade.

I just ordered a Datel modified Pandora battery, so I'm set with that.

However, I'm just wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction with anything else I need to do.

Edit: Also, half of these guides speak in a lingo I can half understand @,@

Once you get the tool, the first step you need to do is make a MMS (magic memory stick). It is a very simple process, just follow this link here and DL the "lite" version: [RELEASE] Catb50 Team's Magic Memory Stick Creator

This is a one time thing you have to do, since you bought a 4 gig one you should have any problems. For any other q post here, or pm since I don't check all threads often.

Edit: Check this link and see the other parts to at least know what you'll be getting into: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQnbJ...e=channel_page

Thanks. A video with a guy who speaks clearly and doesn't sound stupid.

After reading that, I'm going to have to get myself a USB to PSP connection cable. After that I'll be set.

Also, I can reformat the memory stick after turning it into a MMS, right?

Yeah, you only need a MMS for installing CFW, once it's done it can be used like any other MSPD. If you need to install it for a friend, then you'd do the whole thing again.

I'm happy I found this topic since i'm going to be picking up a PSP next week...hopefulyl...anyway, I've seen that the 3000 is out of the question due to the shit picture + the delay in the LightBlue Tool, so are the current 'Core' PSP bundles the new board as well? Or could I buy a slim core and just do the standard pandora battery etc etc.

What's wrong with the 3000 picture? Been tempted to buy a ps3 and had read that the new screen was anti-glare and really nice.

3000 Just has a newer/better screen and is currently unhackable.

Even if you got the Datel Lite-Blue, you couldn't do shit because there's no firmware for the 3000 PSPs.

Right now, if you want a 3000 PSP to hack it, hold on. It'll probably be done in the next three months hopefully.

If you want a hacked PSP now, stick with a used 1000 or 2000 series. (Be minful of the 3.95+ firmware)

Also, the 3000 model is plagued by Scan Lines with the new screen and iirc SONY has stated they don't have a solution for the problem. As Fiye said, if you're loking for a 3000 and you want to mod it, you'll need to wait.

Most, if not all PSP2000 series have the mobo that can't be CFW'd, just be aware. Your best bet is to either get a preowned one or a GoW/Dexter special Eds.

Idk, I just got the PSP-2001PB and some googling has links where people have mod'd theirs, so I'm hoping I can. Worst case I end up waiting till Datel releases that Blue Light tool in January.

edit: also, all the God of War Editions were 2001 PB's at my local Gamestop. I'm trying to determine if mine is the new mobo, word is if you got 4.1 firmware shipped your prob screwed.

edit2: when I'm connecting it to my PC it's registering as PSP Type A, I'm not quite sure what that means yet or if it's good/bad >_> any help ?
