    I hate to post again but editing another time would be pointless at this point. >_< I've been trying to run PSPident and it doesn't run. I'm wondering if it's something I'm doing wrong. Apparently PSP 2001 PB Type A have been CFw'd, but i'm trying to determine if I can before ordering a battery to mod. Any ideas?

    After some intensive searching I found that the new motherboard PSP 2000s haven't been shipped the the States. So if you've purchased a PSP 2000.

    Check this letter http://www.psp-ita.com/news_images/psp_version2.png

    If that says G or higher, its CFW'd

    And some more info.

    Limited Edition & New Boxstyle:
    Daxter Limited Edition Pack (TA-85v2/3.80 OFW)(CONFIRMED)
    God of War Limited Edition Pack (TA-88v2/3.95 OFW)(CONFIRMED)
    Madden 09 Limited Edition Pack (TA-88v2/3.95 OFW & TA-88v3/4.01 OFW)(CONFIRMED)
    Piano Black with the New Box Style (TA-88v3)(UNCONFIRMED)
    Piano Black (Amazon.com)(TA-88v3)(PARTIALLY CONFIRMED)

    PSP-2000 Original Boxstyle Box Codes (Thanks to Alek @ Dark-AleX.org):
    (No Letter) = 3.60
    A = 3.71
    B = UNKNOWN
    C = 3.72
    D = UNKNOWN
    E = 3.80
    F = 3.90
    G = 3.95 / 4.01 (TA-88v2 / TA-88v3)
    A PSP with G and the 4.01 firmware is most likely a TA-88v3 motherboard, so it is advised that you stay away from them.

    note that that's the old box style, all new PSP 2000s have 88v3 regardless of what that letter is

    additionally, even with that new battery for the 3000s they still won't be hackable, all the battery does it put it in service mode

    additionally additionally, I got my GoW bundle a couple days ago, and the firmware it shipped with was 3.90, not 3.95

    I won't know for sure for awhile, but I've found more people saying the PSP-2000 in the States aren't the new 88v3s, they say they're 88v2. I don't have a Battery to try anything and PSPident .03 won't work unless you've already got the CFW installed. Do you know any way I could check? I could still return it to GameStop and just buy a used one that is likely an older model.

    Worst case sceanario, I suppose I wait until someone figures out how to mod the new 88v3. D: Kind of Sucks, I'm hoping I'm not screwed. I've currently got PSP-2001PB/98510. =/ No Letter and it shipped with 4.1...

    Ew, that sucks man.

    Right now I'm in the process of making my Magic Memory Stick. Still waiting for DealExtreme to ship out my Datel Battery.

    Everything's running fine so far.

    Edit: and Done!

    Sony - PSP (Piano Black) - 98510

    Sony - PSP (Piano Black)
    Model: 98510 | SKU: 8532894

    Just wanted to verify, and this seemed like the most appropriate, recent thread to post in, but that is in fact a PSP 2000 series model, correct? I did a little digging and it seemed like that was the 2000, and the other system they were offering, the bundle pack, was the 3000.

    I don't particularly care if the system is hackable, though it'd be nice, but I've read that the scan-lines on the 3000 make it a tough sell, and that I'd be better off going with the 2000 for practical purposes. I got a $200 gift card to Best Buy for Christmas and am planning to drop it on the system, just wanted to make sure this one was what I wanted.

    You're right, the PSP pictured there is a 2000 and the bundle is a 3000.

    2000 (practically identical to 1000):

    3000:

    Most obvious difference is that the 3000 has a "PS" button like a PS3, not a Home button.

    Sorry for the slight necro, but I've been looking for PSPs on the eBay and thanks to living in a stupid corner of the EU my options are limited.

    Sony PSP 2003 Slim and Lite BRAND NEW UK - BLACK V 3.95 on eBay, also, Sony PSP, Consoles Systems, Video Games (end time 28-Jan-09 17:56:13 GMT)

    Should be a safe bet, G series but the 3.95 Firmware should mean a TA-88v2 Mobo which would make it safe for CFW. Or is there still a risk of getting the bitchy Mobo?

    Got a question regarding the MMS procedure.

    Once that's all done, is it safe to add files to the stick, or does it explicitly have to be only the files the program drops on it? Been wanting to make my MMS stick an all-purpose utility, including the MMS itself, a pandora creator, as well as putting the most recent CFW on it to update to from the one the MMS installs.

    actually, most core systems, are 3000 series as well, not just the bundles

    Got myself a Slim 2003 with 3.95 FW on the thing and having some trouble getting CFW on it. Am I stuck with needing a Pandora or can it be done with a Memory Stick?

    As I understand it, the combination of battery and memory stick is what makes a "Pandora" battery. The battery puts the PSP in service mode, while the "magic" memory stick is formatted to be a bootable drive on the PSP. The PSP in service mode can then load firmware directly off the memory stick.

    I modded my slim without a pandora, and also shocked myself pretty bad, lol. You basically clip a little line on your battery. There should be a guide at PSP Hacks - PSP Slim Hacks. Hack your PSP!

    EDIT: Well, technically this is making your own Pandora battery. But you can make it work again by using a number 2 pencil to fill in the groove. Yes, the lead from the pencil completely fixes the battery. Three years running now.
