The point about playstyles is valid, but I just don't know how anyone could level BST regularly without using a /whm sub. I understand situational needs for /nin, but I could never give up the functionality of /whm.
Regen might just be the best spell in the game. You'll spend a ton of time running around on BST. There is no reason not to have Regen up at all times. And once you get Gaudy Harness, you will recover the MP you spent on Regen before the effect even wears off. Add in the Auto-Refresh trait from /whm and you're getting 6hp per tick. I just can't see any way where /blu beats that.
My experience leveling in the teens last week was: FoV refresh is easy mode. I was sending pet to go kill something, while I either joined him or took another mob myself... killing EP's and some DC's. FoV refresh last an entire hour, and kept my mp full almost the entire time. Just save cures for in between fights so you don't have hate the whole fight. I died once when I was walking back to outpost and I got in with some undead and such, but I was pretty much afk so it was my own fault.
This very true. Regen is brilliant. When I was doing sch/bst and whm/bst it was all I needed to keep me full. However any form of regen, even just 1hp is worthwhile. It would keep me up on nin/bst when shadows were down (regen from FoV) and /blu offers it at 36 (sheep song + healing breeze combo), but the other thing about /blu is using Sprout Smack (15% slow), Sandspin (acc down), Wild Oats (vit down), Headbutt (stun), and Bludgeon (high dmg). Use those moves to finish off the mob slightly faster, and make your pet survive that little longer (although spamming the spells is counter productive). The playstyle is only slightly more aggressive, but when you start losing those effects, /whm is better by far (I don't know how well para, slow or silence stick when /whm at low levels so if someone wants to chime in, go ahead).
Some other things I forgot to mention is, that in areas where you can do FoV, Treasure Caskets will drop from mobs randomly. Blue ones contain temp items you can use in the zone, like silent oil, prism powders, potions, ethers, and other meds, including ones like Catholicon which removes up to 3 negative status effects at a time.
However don't feel you need to stick to areas with just FoV and Treasure Caskets. Regen and Refresh from Sigil spoiled me when I leveled rdm/bst solely in the [S] areas from 16-41. I never had to rest once.
Also if you're on Bahamut, look up Untamed linkshell. It's a pet linkshell, which recently has become more active, with est time members commonly running jug burns or pet burns. If you're not on Bahamut, other servers do have pet/bst shells to look into. Alla has some of them on the bst forum (The thread with the list is a little outdated though e.g. Petropolis merged to Untamed).
Hey just wanted to say I read all the lovely replies and good advice and I want to say Thank you guys for being so awesome! I mean it really seems like those who play BST, or the BST community, sticks together and doesn't hate on newbies interested in the job!
Thanks again for being awesome guys!![]()
