So, out of curiousity, I tried this... RDM/DRK.
and that's when I realized... I dont have the paitence to solo anything with DOTs, got him down to 87% in about three runs of the battlefield before I just stopped caring.
Definately doable though.

Being that I was just kind of extrapolating from the blm guide on page one, I stood at 21 and shot a sleep bolt there. He moved a little bit closer and started casting sleepga. At this point, I didn't really care anymore, so I just tried firing off another sleep bolt in case it happens to land and interrupt sleepga. I didn't get it off in time and sleep landed. This was basically the same scenario the other time, just with bindga.
For those who actually tried this as RNG or COR, how did you deal with Xenoglossia (makes next spellcast instant according to wiki)? Otherwise it sounds pretty easy, I'll give it a go tonight and see.
EDIT: Does it have any casting time enhancement or just normal casting time?
Compliments to the Chef was a really easy trio. First run was sloppy, second run we won in about 10 minutes. 2 well-geared black mages and a well-geared Red mage can pull this one off easily. Can be done with 1BLM 1RDM or possibly even 1RDM.
Tried this a few minutes ago solo. I don't know how you can make the turn solo on RNG while still outrunning his next -ga. I have 12% movement, would stand at 30.1 until his body was just about to go erect, then I'd make a straight beeline down the ramp, but I would not make it out of range of the next ga.
I boxed a RDM for safety but should have subbed DRK; a RDM and a RNG could easily duo this. Without a stun for the turns, it's really tough, especially if he chooses to cast Sleepga or Bindga which are considerably shorter in casting than elemental -gas.
Only way I could see RNG doing it truly solo is with a short delay gun and Spartan Bullets (don't know how well they work though on this); would take forever though.
Issue with RDM/DRK though as a boxed character is hate; can't kite effectively with two players if hate shifts and outside of barrage, you're not shooting all that often on the RNG, maybe 2 at most per cast.
I tried this on ranger 3 times. First time I wasn't /drk and things went ugly at the first turn. I also decided that I would need to use a faster bow. So, second time I went /drk with loxley. Managed the first turn, but forgot poison pots and got slept on the second turn. Third try things went really well, but after 10 minutes having only gotten 20% down I got sloppy and died to a stoneaga iii.
Never saw xenoglossia, don't feel its worth trying on ranger anymore.
rdm/nin, 25min
;o
ZomfG.... dude you got 1 shadow left! :O
For RDM/DRK solo on happy caster a note of caution, yellow/red HP seems to trigger sleepga and bindga, just by personal experience
Since this topic was brought back up I thought I'd add that I'm 99% sure a THF or NIN with a BRD can duo Shadows of the Mind. I recently started trioing this and I fully believe it can be done with just a NIN or THF and BRD. The only problem I can foresee is the BRD running out of MP to cure, but I very seriously doubt that would happen in my experience since the NIN or THF should only be getting hit by Ill Wind or Crosswind.
I've done it NIN/WAR and BRD/WHM. So I'd imagine a THF with a good evasion set and a bard could.
