I've found the most efficient way for me is just to xp for gil. Granted, I could likely do some ENMs and get more gil/hour, but I wouldn't have a tenth of the xp in the same time. When I'm getting Imperial Points at 6x the rate of a single player, I can rack up about a million gil worth of points every 5-6 levels or so.

the key to making gil is higher play time. if you have the time to sit in whitegate and retrace, tele, recall you'll make gil. if you have time to sit at NMs for hours on end you'll make gil. if you have a craft leveled and have hours on end to gather mats, synth a shit ton, list them, relist, rinse and repeat you'll make gil. if you have time to exp and turn your KS/BS's into KS/BSNM's you'll make gil. if you have time to exp and turn your IS into ISNM's you'll make gil. if you have hours to farm you'll make gil. if you have time to partake in LS events and use your points for gil/money items instead of gear you'll make gil. if you have time to get ENM items you'll make gil. if you don't have a high play time you either need to re-evaluate what you want in-game and adjust your play time accordingly, or accept that fact you'll never be buying that white box that will boost your STR or MAB +1.

I have gil because I had gil. The small amount of gil I used to have, will last me far beyond what I'll need for the remainder of FFXI, due to the ridiculous deflation.

Such a broad question, what's enough gil for one person is not enough for another. If all you need money for is food then buying those 1k items from AH and npc'ing for 8k will earn you plenty of gil, more than you would ever need.

However if you're someone trying to go for a relic, then it would take you years to make that. I feel some people read these posts and go "oh wow, this person said they make LOTS of gil by mining, harvesting, and gardening! I'll get those Dusk Gloves +1 in no time!" Then they are severely disappointed when a month later they look at their efforts and realize they're still 10mil short.

Time is another issue, some people who have no endgame linkshell and have more personal time have time to do things like Mining, Harvesting, and other things that actually require time+luck. If you are someone in an endgame linkshell that's lucky to get an hr to themselves a day to farm, then your options are more limited.

I think I've done about 20hrs worth of mining, and haven't gotten a single Khroma Ore, but that's stretched over about a month's time. Definitely not worth my time since the rest of the ores I collected amounted to about 100k. However I have managed to hq 3 crimson legs which took all of about an hr to gather the materials and synth them. Thats 3mil - synth mats cost(roughly 200k). So in the end mining for a month landed me 100k, and crafting for an hr landed me 2.8mil. Both were games of luck and chance, and crafting came out on top for me. My goal is Aegis, so the crafting method is what I need more.

What is your purpose for farming gil?
How much time are you willing to put into it?

and for those people who already know how\what to farm...

How much gil do you make roughly?
How much time do you put into your farming method?

I have a method of painlessly making ~500k-600k a week, only spending 15-25 minutes per day. It's the barrier to entry that keeps my secret from being overrun, and that secret is A10 chocodigging. Were you to start *right now* it would take you two years to get to A10 chocodigging level. It's quite a deterrant when I tell people how I personally make fat stacks of cash every week.

But honestly, there are many ways to make lots of money right now. None of those ways are to follow a leader and wait for a handout. (Unless you are in an endgame shell that occasionally splits HNM/Dynamis profits..) Farming more mobs/drops depends on there being a market for said drops, and we can all see what this economy is doing there. See the fish market system for a good "rock bottom" scenario; Most high level fishermen fish to fatigue every day and simply NPC their fish to make some cash. Mining/HELM depends on you having invested enough levels/skill into your character to mine effectively, which is a considerable barrier to entry for most people. NM drops require that you attain the holy trinity of 1) uncamped NM, 2) ability to defeat said NM, and 3) getting the right drop from the NM. Obviously this doesn't happen all too often either.

The trick is to find something that you, personally, have an edge in doing that few others can do. I used to farm Hakutaku Eye clusters solo, since I have a BST75 and Alchemy 100. It was good money, easy to do for me, and the people I was selling to were definately not able to do what I was able to do solo. That's why most people here will recommend "I did blah blah ENM solo" or "crafting ftw", it works for them because they have the job levels or crafting levels to make a profit at it. If you are in possession of neither of those things, it will obviously be difficult to make money, since you have to compete against a much larger group of people for the available revenue streams.

I needed gil so I started a LS. Getting closer to that Relic every day. For my own personal pocket gil however, I use Cooking, and my uncanny ability to stumble assbackwards into money whenever I drop below 100k:

Went to Sacrarium to help get Frightful Roar. Odqan pops and the Gilseller that's camping it is running in circles around it for 5min before I decide to try it on BST. Killed it and got drop. 270k.

Went to help with cary mitts. Light Spirit pact drops on my pop. 120k.

1 gil bazaar opens up by Bastok MH. Got Hauby, SH, 9 Drawer Almirah x4, Khroma Ore, full HQ Jaridah Peti set. Made well over 1mil.

Bought 500 alexandrite for 2k each, sold them all for 5k.

Ran into beastman king while farming DRK testimony, got D.Ingot.

It's not much but it keeps me afloat.

Edit: Is there anyone that actually believes that RMT are the cause of the NPC sell nerf?

So you're telling people to be ridiculously lucky? Gee thanks for the info.

P.S. ISNM is definitely one the best ways to make gil (you do need a static) it's very easy to get IS and Khroma is a fairly common drop. It's not 75% it's more like 33% but it's one of the few things that keeps going up in price.

Khroma ore is a 25% drop. You either get Khroma Ore, Luminium Ore, Behemoth Horn, or Dragon Talon and according to my data it is a equal chance for each.

Crafting, BCNM ISNM and ENM. I don't play often so generally I only make 1mil/month, 2 if I get lucky. It pays for everything I need.

Learn Dynamis-Bastok pulls backward and forward. Make 500k somehow (will likely be slow and painful). /Shout in whitegate that you have a Lot2/Win1 sponsored Dynamis-Bastok going in on X amount of time (need to give them plenty of time to tell their friends). Tell them that you get all Wootz Ores and currency. Go when you have about ~24+ people. Don't fuck up the pulls. Congratulations, you just won FFXI.

I think by stats, khroma ores should yield you at least 1 per week if you do ISNM every day. After that 1, it's on your luck. Personally been 4/7 in a given week of runs. But from since I've been doing it, I've never gone a week without at least one ore. For that to happen, you really must be doing it 7 times a week however.

BCNM ISNM for decent money (even 20k per run is gils)

ENM mainly for huge gils on good days (hagun, forager, even galateia is worth something now)

but if u wanna buff up your bank, the best bet is dont spend un-necessary money on items you dont need, and always remember any gils is gils

    thats my secret tho

Shout for people to do Dynamis-Sandy as long as you know the pull route and have someone you know that can call mobs (or vice versa). Get more than 50 coins to drop and you already making one hell of a profit.

I said it before but it is more like a 25% Chance. If you do it every day that's 1.75 a week.
