    Problem installing FFXI.

    Friend decides to use the return to Vanadiel campaign and come back to FFXI. Gets everything ready and then tells us he can't find his install discs. I point him in the direction of a Vanadiel 08 torrent from mininova. It takes him about a day but it downloads, he mounts it, installs POL, FFXI, all the expansions, does the update, and tells us that he got a message saying hes missing expansion packs his character is logged out in a zone he cant acess. (He was in Kazham, RotZ) so we move him to Jeuno, logs in fine. Can't access any expansion goodies (We tried to bring him to whitegate, bibiki bay (and joked about all the parties he'll just never get now..), kazham again, and MMM, nothing worked.. so thats all the expansions. All these things could be accessed by someone on a working machine on his character.)

    He exits FFXI, uninstalls everything, remounts torrent and reinstall everything. Same thing. Game tells him hes missing expansions and he cant access any expansion goodies. He says he installs POL, FFXI, and then each expansion. Afterwards it still says "Install *exppack*" instead of "Uninstall *exppack*" like it says when POL and FFXI are installed. When he presses the buttons again, it proceeds to uninstall the expansion pack.

    Halp? ; ;

    (Oh! Question I though of afterward.. FFXI Free Trial is just FFXI huh? no expansions on install?)

    Yes, he has each expansion. (He quit with FFXI/RotZ/CoP/ToAU, and as a gift we surprised him with a WotG code for his account)

    On my machine, I can, on my friends account, access Kazham (RotZ), Bibiki Bay (CoP), Whitegate (ToAU) and do MMM (WotG)

    On my friends machine, he can not log in if he is logged out in those zones, or zone into those areas.

    You need to register the expansions, too. If you just install them, your account won't recognize them -- even if you registered them previously -- until you re-do it. So as the previous person mentioned, you need to re-attach them to your Content ID. Start POL, go through the motions as if you're going to log on, but instead of starting a game, go into your Content ID menu and make sure everything is attached to your account.

    Is nobody reading my posts? >_>;;

    I bought a laptop, borrowed a friends Vanadiel 08, installed the whole game and logged on as normal. Theres nothing I need to attach to my POL ID.

    When my friend tries to install vanadiel 08 the expansions don't install. I can go to the expansion zones on MY PC but he cannot go to any expansion zone, regardless of character, on HIS PC. *edit* He even has a warning on his log in screen that he only has FFXI installed, not even RotZ. He tried to log into my character who was in Sandy[S] and was told he did not have WotG installed, but when he tries to install it from the Vanadiel 08 collection it says it is installed.

    This is a shot in the dark, and for all I know, you may already be doing this, but you might have to install each expansion individually. On the Vanadiel Installation DVD that you torrented, explore into it, and look in each of the INST1~4 folders. INST1 should be the basic FFXI core, and 2~4 should be Zilart, Promathia, and Aht Urhgan (numbered respectably in the order they were released). Look in each of those folders and find the Setup file, double click and install.

    If that don't work, then your torrents be borked. You could just lend him your game CDs/DVDs?

    This is what you wrote earlier:

    So you said he can install them originally, and now you're saying he can't. Which is it? People are suggesting checking out the Content IDs and you haven't said anything about that. So why haven't you checked that?

    If you post contradicting accounts, and then get annoyed that people can't make sense of them, there's no one to be frustrated with except yourself.
