Holy shit. Big surprises for me this night.
Holy shit. Big surprises for me this night.
That sucks. I wanted Forrest to defend his belt at least once.![]()
Yeah, makes me sad ;/ Rampage vs evans inc?
That might be a hell of a fight.
I wish Forrest would get another shot, but that will be a while.
The only fight that went the way I wanted it to was Mir/Nog. Few key points:
-Wow at Pages hook. Wandys leg was twitching while he was out cold.
-Good stop by the ref in Nog/Mir. He could barely stand up afterwards. He tried to stand up and argue and almost feel over.
-I'll give Rashad credit for winning, but lost respect for his chosen taunt.
PS: Why do they let CB fight on the main card? Ugh.
man none of the fights went the way i expected. so glad to see rampage win though. brother vs brother for light heavy will be awesome
i'm really happy for mir, he deserves everything that he gets and is a great story. i can't stand evans, but he's a good fighter...that's all that matters at the end of the day. 'page/wanderlei was a fun fight, i'm really glad rampage got some revenge for those two maulings a few years ago. lol
Crazy night full of "wtf" moments, glad I didn't put money on any of the fights. I think Griffin deserves a rematch since he pretty much controlled the fight for the first two rounds but obviously that's not my decision to call. UFC went out with a bang in 2008, awesome fight card minus CB. Seriously, match this guy up with someone for real to put him out.
I'm glad Mir and Rampage won, but it seemed to me that Griffin wasn't even giving 100% to the fight and looked kinda sloppy. I was kinda choked that Okami wasn't on the main card, I like watching him fight for some reason.
Gotta be honest, Mir looked really sharp. He's bigger than I remember too, although that's because I remember him in a ring with Lesnar. We'll be seeing that happen again soon it seems.
K1 card.... all sorts of surprises. I doubt anyone else stayed up to watch it so I'll post more later.
Spoilers below if you haven't watched it yet. Go to mma-core.com to catch up.
Out of the 3 mma vs k1 kickboxing fights that took place the mma fighters won each one which is very very surprising considering Overeem fought probably the best HW kickboxer K1 had and just destroyed him. Maybe the different striking style just confused the hell out of K1 fighters. Whatever it was Overeem looks like he will give anyone a very tough fight.
The JZ vs Hansen fight was cancelled before the event started, doctors didn't clear hansen to fight, this would have been amazing had it occurred.
Aoki just destroyed Alvarez the second he tied him up and ended up on the ground. I really wanted alvarez to win this too.
Another huge surprise was manhoef, late replacement for le banner, knocked out the guy who most people think has the best chin in mma/k1 all while being out weighed by about 40kg.
Funny gif from the event

any chance aoki ever fights in the states?
I don't see it happening any time in the next year or two. He is one of Japans new stars that Dream absolutely needs if it wants to recapture MMA popularity there. He seems to really like BJ penn, from his interviews I think he says he is the best LW there is, so maybe after a while he will come to the UFC to fight him.
Oh man that's an awesome avatar Jyakku. River City Ransom for the win.
