THF Treasure Hunter question

If I were to have a lazy THF come farming with me and go AFK the majority of the time, and assuming that THF's TH kicks in when they're put on the hate list... would I be able to sub THF and Trick Attack them and benefit from their TH while they're AFK?

Two words: Turbo Controller. Granted, this limits your choices to PS2 or... well just PS2, but whatever. You could probably make a looping Windower or G15 macro with something in it, but you would have to be very careful about where you position.

The entire point of TA is to generate enmity... He's talking about using TA and meleeing behind the THF. Not the THF popping it without engaging.

On THF I've TAed plenty of afk people and the mob goes right for them. It'd work.

I'm pretty sure SE has already mentioned that you have to actually hit the mob for TH to become active.

Are you sure hit? I thought it was any action that put the THF on the hate list. I often solo stuff on BLM and use my TH4 mule to simply steal, mug, or throw something at the mob while it's slept to get on the hate list for THer, but not screw up my solo. It sure seemed like THer was working when I recently did gorgets with TH4 in comparison to when I originally did obi's with no thf.

I interpreted what SE said as the thief just needs to be put on the hate list. Either they could hit the mob, steal from it, or even use Collaborater on someone with hate. Whether it works when the thief is put on the hate list by no action of his own is a bit questionable but being on the hate list is being on the hate list I guess.

I'm of the opinion that they only need to be on the hate table as well, that is to say a missed attack or a steal or something will still trigger TH, but we generally have our THFs shoot/swing until they hit anyway. No reason not to.

Granted I haven't been active here very long, but I think this is the first time I've agreed with you.

It'd be easy as pie to code but SE would never do it, since they would just say "oh that'd detract from the fun of players figuring out the formulaes for themselves". Thieves deserve some credit tho.

I agree with the hate list situation per SE's comments. Even if you miss it still should be active. The question that people have asked me a lot though, is whether or not Treasure Hunter from Thief knife is active while in Thief Knife is in the main hand or the sub hand. A couple people swear Thief Knife has to be in the main slot to count ... I've tried it with this knife in main and in sub slot and I honestly can't see a noticeable difference.

I see no reason Treasure Hunter from Thief Knife wouldn't be active while Thief Knife is in the sub slot; however, a lot of daggers do have this problem; for example Batardeau, while in Dynamis, if Batardeau is equipped in the sub slot, you will not be able to use Mercy Stroke.

I'm not certain if this is true with Mandau as well, but I'm assuming yes.

So is this also the case with Thief Knife?

The other thought I've spent a little time pondering over is if you have TH4 worth of gear equipped when hitting the mob, can you change your gloves out (let's say for a WS) and still have TH4 worth of Treasure Hunter enabled on this mob? Lately I've been full timing Assassin Armlets and results have been very good compared to when I used to swap them out for WS. Placebo? coincidence? PS2 limitations? A kitten getting killed somewhere? I don't know ... Maybe this will be a question I'll have to stick with "How many licks does it take to get to the Tootsie Roll center of a Tootsie Pop?"

My understanding is that being on the hate list isn't enough; resting or curing someone with hate won't stick TH. The THF needs to perform some offensive action against the mob, i.e. something that would claim it.
