XI, yeah boi
XI, yeah boi
if anyone says they liked that god damn sphere grid I will kill you. D: Jesus I spent weeks tracking down locked spheres and leveling only to realize it was pointless and I should be buffing the armor instead. >_>; FFV or FFVIII by far were the best.
Sphere system was annoying. Especially when you RAN OUT of a type of sphere.
I love the more simplistic systems, like FF9, FFV, and FFXI.
9,5, tactics, 7
I liked the sphere grid.
5>6>9=7>3ds>10=8=4
11 isn't offline so not counting it.
12 isn't even worthy of being an FF title anyways imo, so screw comparing it to the others. Saying it's worse than the others would be an understatement.
VI: Pretty good system overall, especially when your team fleshes out and you can tinker.
VII: Was pretty good, finding out combinations of materia that synced well together was awesome. Was actually more fun replaying it (on my first playthrough I put really random materia everywhere). After FFXI it was somehow easier to stand the tedious grind to level materia, and I understood better how to put materia to make specific roles too.
VIII: I abhorred the junctioning system. Go Draw magic for ages, just to junction it and never use. I liked the weaponcrafting thing, but wasn't enough equipment in the game other than that. Despite this, and despite hating the story and most of the characters, it was still a fun game for me.
IX: <3 clear defined jobs, and still customisable.
X: Fuck this shit. Getting that board unlocked just to have everyone get the same things.
X-2: Wish I had the chance to play this more (friend lost his copy). It was very girly, but the dress spheres did a good job of creating different job possiblities. Also liked how the designs were similar, but different across all three characters.
XI: Equipment system was great (ofc), merit points were ok, but really felt like something bolted on. "Well it's too late to add talents and specs now, so we'll just halfass some new system for those nolife 75's". Also wtf show all stats in your equipment screen please.
XII: Same problems as X, except there's way more equipment to shoot for, and it's actually usable too. Glad that most of the lisence board was useful somehow though. In X I think I hardly ever used black magic, or even felt like I needed to, but here there's no section that's really craptacular.
Everything after VII I liked less really (excluding IX), especially X and XII were meh. Actually, I don't enjoy jRPG's in general as much post-PS1, wonder if it's me or the games. ;p
4 has, and always will be, my favorite game. As far as the systems ingame though, (since 4 really didn't have any) is going to be 6 for me. <3 that game
7, 8 then 5... in that order.
I have been to the future and FF35 had my favorite attribute system. I need a new flux capacitor.
FFIX all the way.
Excluding FFXI because its online doesn't make sense to me. It has an attribute system does it not?
Now that I think about it, FF2's lack of a level system was pretty good too. Your characters got stronger based on how you used them, which makes sense.
I would have liked it if not for the fact that the stat gains were seemingly random.
the weapon levels and magic levels went up in a predictable manner but sometimes I'd take a shitload of damage in a fight and would get no vit or HP boosts.
I enjoyed FF12 as a whole(best game ever, in my opinion), including its license board system. You could basically assign jobs to characters and there were a lot of abilities/spells available. Unlike previous offline FF's they were actually useful too.
Sphere Grid was a decent system but had too many flaws like useless spells, etc. As a result, every single member in my party turned out to be melees.
I liked FF8's the best, yeah drawing magic was kinda a grind... but ou could just set the game to remember last command and leave the controller for a few minutes during a fight lol. But, like previously said, the ability to junction magic was very cleaver and how everything (and the amount of each) affected stats differently really put a lot of depth into it
^ this but drawing was too zZz.
Tactics.
