So I'll post when my friends uncle dies, my 3rd cousin dies, and when the 3rd cousin of the director of the second Saw movie dies from obesity. My argument isn't that it's not pertinent, it's that it's become less and less so. Seriously, the 80 year old wife of a star trek writer, an old playboy pinup, and an 81 year old singer who had cancer has found it's way into the threads. People are making these threads JUST because it's 2008 and they have a reason to bitch. Those people wouldn't have had threads made for them a year, or maybe even 8 months ago. And fuck you shue, I haven't posted in any of them. I posted in this one because it finally just irked me enough to say something.

Did you even read what I linked to lol? "Senoska is a Weeaboo" was a post from that thread. I didn't call him out. They made such a stink about the name "football" and the amount of threads made, I wanted to point it out in the NFL thread. I didn't find it in the least bit hostile. And I didn't question his knowledge of football so much as the entire spam forums (which if your sarcasm meter didn't start beeping after you seen the parenthetical phrase following, then I don't know how to help). It was a fun jab back.

Here's the thing, this is the first I've posted, or posted in, too. I don't give a fuck about who else has or hasn't died, this was a man I respected and whose work touched my life. It has fuck all to do with the irritating bullshit about 2008 killing people, I just cared.

I've only read Pinter's The Caretaker but you can immediately acknowledge his talent in, not only detailed observations of human relationships, but his ability to write a play with the perspective of an actor and a scriptwriter. Sad to see him pass away.

2008 isn't different from any other year. I think it's cavalier to call anyone's death, especially someone as influential as a great playwright, "irrelevant." But I agree that blaming it on some phantom curse of a calendar year is getting on my nerves. Yeah Heath Ledger's death was tragic for many reasons, but George Carlin was no spring chicken and Paul Newman even less so, and those were probably the biggest losses of the year.

The volume of "famous" deaths is probably just a side effect of more famous people since pop culture (and media in general) have become more prevalent in the last fifty or sixty years. I shudder to think of "celebrity deaths" fifty or sixty years from now, all of the lame reality stars and cable news talking heads will be dropping like flies. And there will probably be threads like this saying "ZOMG F U 2064!!!! SPENCER PRATT AND E D HILL RIP"
