I highly suggest this game... five times.

Chocobo Racing or some shit was on the PS1, so not even Square had a perfect PS1 record, but fairly close.
MGS1, Xenogears and SotN (Castlevania) stand out as the best of the bunch, excluding Final Fantasy games. Its kind of hard to really recommend many games because the nostalgic factor kinda helps a person ignore dated graphics, whereas a new comer might have a much harder time getting into the game. Its hard to go wrong with an RPG on the PS1 though, most of them were real gems.
Ehrgeiz.
I thought threads of fate was pretty bad as well, and I can't imagine any of those chocobo racing/chocobo dungeon games being any good.
Spoiler: show
The majority of games mentioned in this thread are RPGs, and a lot of them are repeats. I expect more brain-racking! It was easier for me because I didn't play the vast majority of RPGs on the PSX -- I've never been a Square fan, to note -- and because I try to seek out gems. If this is someone's first real experience with the massive library of PSX games, though, shouldn't they have a little more variety?
The RPG aspect is covered. How about some platformers, racing games, and so on?
saga frontier 2 was a little wonky, not as good as the first, and then it went straight to shit on the ps2. the first was by far the best. fuck now that i have a ps3 i'm wanting to go play all these games again myself -_-
ehrgeiz also wasnt that bad, woulda been better if the arenas were larger, but i had some fun with it
monster rancher was pretty fun too, not sure whether it was cause i was in elementary or something but me and my cousin played the shit out of this game
brave fencer musashi is also a pretty fun game if you havnt played it before, some good old fashioned action/rpg
klonoa/wild arms wasn't mentioned yet? very disappointed
2nd the jumping flash recommendation, along with ape escape. also, wtf at dissing chrono cross. take your nostalgia shit out of this thread
Incredible Crisis
Intelligent Qube
Tactics Ogre
Vanguard Bandits
Devil Dice
Tomba Tomba Tomba Tomba. Can't stress that enough. First one was better than 2nd, but thats a matter of opinion. The RPG aspect is covered. How about some platformers, racing games, and so on?
I never really got into tomb raider, but maybe someone who did can recommend one of those.
Getting a hold of the PS1 Resident Evil is a must as has already been mentioned.
Even if only for the live action intro/exit.
Threads of fate was awesome, fuck you guys.
Jet Moto 1 and 2, moreso 2.
God, I loved those games.
There's way too many good games to recommend on the PS1, a list of 5 isn't enough!
Xenogears, breath of fire III, star ocean 2, legend of dragoon, valkyrie profile, legend of legaia, grandia and probably others I'm forgetting atm.
Btw if you have a PS3 you can get Castlevania: SoTN as a download on PSN, if you want to play it on a console. Was the first thing I did the first time I hooked up mine to the internets.
A bit late, but for Platformers, Crash Bandicoot: Warped! and Spyro 3: Year of the Dragon (yes, there was a time when Spyro games were good). Ape Escape is great, too. I am told Oddworld was a good series, but I've not played that myself. I'm also told that Disney made a (surprisingly) good Platformer with Tarzan, but I've not tried that, either.
Survival Horror has a lot of good choices, too. Dino Crisis is my favorite, Resident Evil, Silent Hill and whatnot.
Action. . .Tomb Raider was good for its time, though it has always felt a bit clunky to me, even 10 years ago. Fear Effect has weird controls but a strong atmosphere that remains today. The graphics are interesting and the story is great.
And yeah Jet Moto 2, as someone mentioned above, was fun too. Probably one of four racing games I own.
Wild Arms
Wild Arms 2nd Ignition
Lunar: Silver Star Story
Lunar: Eternal Blue
Mega Man X4/5 (6 sucked)
I'm surprised these games haven't been mentioned yet D:
Ninja: Oh wait someone did mention WA >_>;
Eh idk, I liked X5 just as much as X4... personal preference I guess![]()
Twisted Metal 1/2
