Super Gokuden 2. This game was the shit back when I played it, however, getting good at the battle system meant you would never EVER lose unless the game really wanted you to. Which made some fights not as epic. They captured the story very well.

Same, I remember when I was like 10 playing Shining Force 1 for the first time (After beating Shining Force 2 at least 5 times) the one starting character Hans I nick named Hans the Goblin Killer and wouldn't let a Goblin be killed by anyone other than him.
