what kind of video card is recommended to run it at 1920x1200 at max/full resolution and keeping above 30-40 FPS? i was thinking of getting the Radeon HD 4870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5:
Newegg.com - SAPPHIRE 100259-1GL Radeon HD 4870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards
this game really does look appealing though. i love the music so far. the HD movies at youtube really make it hard to wait for.
when does this game come out?
@Richardd, I just got that card (512mb version) and it runs about like you ask with everything on (6gb ram, lowly 1.86ghz c2d). I agree about the music, it is amazing how different it can be when you roll into a new zone.
They have no release date other than 2nd half '09. Lots of game sellers are saying late september, and a few videos people are citing say something like that, but nothing official has been announced.
I was using a Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT before i got my new comp a few days ago and i got 40+ fps outside major cities. Had nearly max settings aside like water texture and something else. Cities lowered it to about 20-30 because when 100's of ppl load all around you it takes its toll. My new Comp runs the game like butter even in the most crowded of places and on AAx8 :3
Are most of you running it on Vista / Directx10?
I don't believe Aion has Dx10, I could be mistaken though. I'm pretty sure it will run fine on Vista though.
I think I read on aionsource about ppl asking about dx10 and they were saying the engine was written for dx9, and there was some mumbo jumbo about forcing dx10. I use xp64 and i'd have to check on the dx version.
so the beta registration is closed already? =/
I'm pretty certain they announced there will be no beta for the NA/EU version, only like one day for certain people to preview it.
wow appearantly in AION you can level ALL crafts, i repeat, ALLLLLLLLLL. dont have to choose 1 or 2 like in WoW/FFXI. fuck yeah i'm gonna lvl it all
also they're making the game using CRYTEK engine.. so yeah.... get a good PC lol
After playing China Aion for about 2-3 weeks now, i can say that this game is AWESOME. When NA version is finaly release, i think the PvP aspect will be ramped up a bit, just because of NA play style compared to china.
Theres enough PvE to keep ya busy, and if ya get board with that, the abyss can keep ya busy for hours on end, specialy if u roll with a group.
Havent felt like this about a game since ffxi, and i have played just about everything that has came out since then.
Hope to see you guys on NA Aion release!! you wont be disappointed!! :D
When you see how much farming, money, time it takes to lv a craft your just gonna want to start w/ one (lol). Endless Node farming and skilling up is slower then FFXI... You really want to lv a craft that's gonna help you as you lv because armor/weapons gets rly expensive later and its best if you can craft gear for yourself and sell gear you make. Economy is like FFXI's in that it depends nearly 100% on other players via crafts/gathering... it's not like WoW in that dropped gear can circulate the economy. Well it can, but dropped gear is has minimal influence on the economy since they aren't candy drops

i'm playing on Tiamat server
Definitely should stay above 25fps with it around 4xAA (on Aion), at least when it isn't loading all the players in a city. I ran it at 1280x1024 and 4xAA on my GTS 250 (basically a 9800GTX+) and I averaged (I'm pretty sure) around 40-60fps. While loading players after zoning into a city my FPS would stutter a lot, but that is to be expected. Was a lot like warping to the middle of Whitegate in some of the cities, after everyone loaded it didn't stutter. Most areas were smooth as butter.
The game isn't like what a lot of people say. Yes, it is very pretty... because it has a nice art style. The game uses a lot of cheap effects though in which you would find in a lot of DX8/early DX9 games... but they blend together really well. It's probably more CPU limited than GPU limited already.
I'll load up the Chinese client and see if I can give you a benchmark around that res (I'll dualscreen & bench it with fraps).
Edit: Yeah just as I figured, CPU limited. 2554x977 is apparently what res I was running... just resized the window till it was maxed out on both screens. Should have been closer to 2560x1024 but that doesn't really matter.
2554x977 4xAA: 53.213 average
Spoiler: show
2554x977 8xAA: 52.431 average

Odd benchmarks, I know. I ran from the starter area to Alteroon outpost or whatever and back. "Min" is low on both cause I took screenshots.![]()
