Yeah, the Expert Quests are nuts. Most of them require a chain synth (Crit synth becoming a mat for the next synth, which needs to crit to be a mat for the next synth...which needs to crit -.-) where the refining stones go for like a mil each. Once you finish the quest you make crazy money, but its really an investment to even get to 400+.

uses farcry 1 engine not crysis engine.

farcry 1 is actually slightly older than WoW, if you can run WoW you can run Aion at a higher fps.

Technically, Aion runs CryEngine; while Crysis runs CryEngine 2.

And Lolx3. WoW uses the same engine as Warcraft III iirc, which is FAR less demanding on your system than CryEngine. If you're having trouble running wow, you're going to have problems running Aion.

WoW has some issues with scaling and efficiency, especially when a lot of models are being rendered at once.

While the CryEngine is more demanding, it also is much more optimized, meaning a lower-end system might actually see an improvement, especially in busy areas.

I can run WoW on highest setting without lagging, but I can't run Aion on highest settings without lagging. Aion still looks far better than WoW even without highest settings.

Better optimized yes. That's not the same thing as saying
if you can run WoW you can run Aion at a higher fps.
My system could run WoW, but i had to upgrade my video card to run Aion.

I actually can run both full with no lag created by graphics. I would ask you if you are attributing lag to graphics that is actually server/client lag? If you are playing the beta or even C-Aion you are going to be getting a decent amount of server/client based lag. C-Aion can be completely unplayable at times due to this, while the beta is vastly overpopulated and has a decent amount of lag and rubberbanding as well.

My friend got me into the beta so I downloaded it, not knowing if the game would even load on my computer. It takes about 10 minutes for the game to load, which I know is LOL, but once it gets going it plays pretty well at the lowest settings. I typed up my first impressions for some friends that are interested in the game. We're all wow players so I used many wow references in my write up, but I figured that I would post it here and get some feedback regarding what I said, since I know many of you are much higher level than what I got to. Anyway, it's behind the tag.

    Spoiler: show
Okay so I spent a good four hours playing this today. Not a wow killer by any means, atleast in my experience from playing the low levels (1-8). It feels SO Korean and just unpolished and unoriginal. Maybe by release it will be better, but I mean, it's already out in some places so I kind of doubt it.

Like what was stated in the aim convo I previously put up, the games questing backtracks SO much and is so just...annoying. Like, it's so back and forth and people will ask you to get stuff for them in one area and then you have to go all the way back. It's like, they'll say go to the mine. So you go to the mine. Then run back to the forest where you got the quest. Then they're like, okay now run ALL THE WAY to the VERY FIRST village. So you run back to the very first village, then they're like, okay now go back to mine and THEN go back to the forest and then come back here. And it's like...just SO much backtracking.

Meanwhile, you don't get new available quests when you level or something, they just are randomly available based on what you do. Kind of like wow, but it doesn't make sense that one quest will be available when it comes available, as the new quest will have NOTHING to do with the one you just got. It's just kind of annoying.

The chat system is wonky. It doesn't explain how to talk in party chat or anything, or how to send tells to people. I figured out how to whisper people but I mean, atleast wow kind of explains it in the chat function.

It just felt so many times to me like it was ripping off wow and at some points it just angered me. Like, to pick up an item it turned into a gear. When you jump several times as a certain race you do flips. You can socket items. I'm sure many of these things aren't original to wow, but as an avid wow player those are the things that REALLY just jumped out at me.

The only really awesome thing that I found was (surprise!) the character creator. Running around wow you constantly see people with your character model, same everything. This game I imagine would make that REALLY hard to happen. Your character is completely your own, and all of the customization was pretty incredible. I had the most fun with the character creator, and because my girl was EXACTLY how I wanted her to look, it made me really enjoy myself that much more. I totally loved that aspect of it.

I can't say much for the graphics since I was playing them on the lowest of the low settings, but from what I saw they were pretty. The loading screen and stuff looked much nicer than any of the low level areas that I saw. And just because it's a low level area is no excuse for it to not be awesome. Blood elf starting area is so cool looking, and so is night elf starting area.

Also, you can't choose races in this game, only classes. So everyone is a human which is kind of boring. I thought those chipmunk things would be playable.

Maybe at higher levels the game and after you get the wings and start to do the really end game stuff and the pvp stuff then it might become really exciting, but I just found it boring and repetitive and honestly the quest system was just frustrating. They need alot of kinks worked out still, from the chat system to the quest system, and I doubt that those things will REALLY be worked out before September.

And I totally went into this with an open mind and also didn't expect alot and didn't go in saying OH THIS IS GOING TO SUCK. I really WANTED it to be awesome. I am going to keep playing tonight just to get the wings and see if it turns into a whole new experience once I get them, but even so I doubt that wings will totally change the game, and being an upgraded class will either.

I'll let you guys know though. These were just my initial impressions.

No offense, even though you said you went into this with an open mind, it really sounded like you just wanted the game to be WoW 2.

I read it more like a QQ post because the game isn't WoW/2... oh wai... And i know its artificial, but enjoyment from a game also depends on how u can run it... if u have to play an extremely pretty game on the lowest settings then you wont like it as much.. /fact..

MMM, you read it like that because I posted that same exact thing in a thread that was comparing the two games for the past 20+ posts. Since I didn't feel like reiterating the same things in two places I just copypasted and didn't take out the wow stuff, so yeah I can see why you'd think that.

The problem is that I DON'T want it to be WoW2, I want it to be a completely different game and unique and interesting in ways that wow isnt, and I felt like Aion (just the mere bit that I played so far, I understand that there is much more to encounter) was similar to wow (UI in particular) and done worse. That's why I'm hoping that you guys that have experienced the game more can point me in a direction saying that it gets better and unique as the gameplay progresses, and not just another linear Korean MMO.

And I don't know about saying enjoyment is based on how you can run a game. I've played games on this shitty laptop with the settings at 0 and I've played games on my nice PC and gotten similar enjoyment from both. I can see how a visually stimulating game like this one might be better on a nicer system though. I'm stuck with my laptop for another month though, and was dying to try it so I did

I personally enjoy Aion's quest system better. Being able to locate NPCs or mobs without the use of an addon is nice. I've leveled my characters without even having to grind. So what if you have to run around a lot? Traveling in this game is a lot faster. Flight paths are like 1000 MPH. You can teleport directly to places which I think is much easier than having to take an airship somewhere or and incredibly long WoW flight path.

I'm no computer genius, but I was able to figure out the chat system in the game with no trouble. And are you really complaining about how this game lets you jump and do flips? I wouldn't call that "ripping off WoW." That's more like realizing people like to fucking jump. FFXI probably would have more ppl still playing it if only SE had implented SPACE BAR = JUMP.

I can understand why each faction only has one race. The amount of detail you can put into customizing your character is nuts. You can change virtually every detail of your face and make yourself look like a "not human" thing if you want.

WoW sucks balls any way. Your post makes it sound like you wanted another WoW, but ffffffffffffff that.

Edit: keep playing. It's better when you get advanced jobs and level more. But hey this game's not gonna be for everyone.

I can actually sympathize with Lbelle's reaction to the game, as it was pretty similar to mine; especially her reaction to the constant back tracking and WoW similarities. That being said, we both haven't gotten to 25+ yet which is when the game is supposed to get better as the PvP is introduced (I believe? Abyss?) at this level. But yeah, I don't think her reaction is unfounded, the game does kind of drag at least that's how it's felt during the early levels.

That was my first impression when I played for the first time (the wow this is like WoW sentiment). It's just one of those games where you gotta keep going and it gets better.

Now, I don't mean to be a dick...but I wish people would STOP WITH THE FUCKING "REVIEWS" BASED ON THE FIRST 10-20 LEVELS OF THE GAME.

Seriously. Take some time to play the game. Hell, you didn't even get to finish the ascension quest yet. I'll be perfectly honest, the game starts at level 25.

Oh, the cursor turns into a gear? Guess what, the dev's tried to make the game familiar to what people already know. WAR has the SAME thing. You can Socket items? Really? Just like EVERY other "modern" MMO out there. No Races QQ! Try messing with the character creation screen, you can literally make your character into whatever you want. The UI looks the same a wow, its a clone! Guess what? That UI has become the INDUSTRY STANDARD and was around BEFORE wow.

Honestly, I'm getting pretty sick of these "reviews" and "My Experiences" threads where people decide a game sucks or is a wow clone....when they've only played for less than TWO HOURS.

    /rant

    Sorry, but seeing 20 of these threads/posts a day on Aionsource and other MMO fourms really makes me mad >.>;
